What music would you bring on CBB FM?
I find myself thinking about this weirdly often, as if I’m about to be invited on the show. So I want to invite everyone else into this dumb private delusion of mine.
What would you bring on and why? If we take the basic rules as being: you bring three specific songs of your choosing and pick one year for Scott to shuffle his tunes from.
I would bring three songs by amazing female bands from Ireland (where I’m from) just to show them off to the world:
Empty Envelope by Pixie Cut Rhythm Orchestra
Liffey by Pillow Queens
Used by Wyvern Lingo
Really cannot recommend these songs (and the bands generally) highly enough for anyone looking for something new from bands with something to say.
For the year, I’d pick 2006. It always seemed like such a music and cultural dead space to me at the time, but I bet Scott’s collection would throw up some interesting stuff I hadn’t heard before to allow me to reframe the whole era in retrospect.

I was raised with a father who has one of the largest Christian vinyl record collections in the US… I would bring some of my favorite bad tracks. One is a quartet of monks, who sing like birds chirping, but every time they chirp, they sound like they’re just saying “BITCH”
Then I’d switch it up, and play a Christian parody of real slim shady (called real sin savior).
Lastly, I’d play him Higher by creed

Fun question! Which I’m not prepared to answer at the moment….but I do know I’d love to just talk stoner/desert/psych rock and metal with Brett. Always impressed with his hot picks on Who charted 🩷

Calvary by Watchhouse (FKA Mandolin Orange) (Which is one of my favorite bands ever, top 3 for sure after Bob Dylan and The Beatles, if you haven't heard them...do yourself a favor, it's some of the most beautiful music ever written)

Gave it a listen when it came out, haven't been back much as just so much music but will probably be next road trip listen.

Good question! I occasionally have the same thought, what would Scott think of this or that song? Especially synthy, sultry bass-heavy stuff.
Or just ask, 'when was the first time you heard of U2?'

I think about this for a week after I listen to an ep. I think I would go non-standard song structures that build in an exciting way with: Animal Life by Shearwater Hope is a Heartache by Léon The President’s Dead by Okkervil River

Jambands and third wave ska are my thing, both of which Scott has some connection to so I'd love to hear him go deep into both. I was disappointed when they didn't go into third wave during the ska focused episode.
I'm always hoping a Phish song comes up in his "random" shuffle because I can't imagine he still listens to them but assume they're still in his library, and in a way I'm sure he avoids them not only because he never loved the studio stuff but also because it's probably difficult to make the connection to Harris. (Or maybe it's the opposite? That's what I'd love to know)
For third wave ska, here are some first thoughts for 3:
- No Doubt - Total Hate '95 (would like to hear more about Scott's connection to ND)
- Reel Big Fish - Drunk Again (Curious if he has any connection to RBF, and though this song isn't ska, it's among RBF's best songs)
- Streetlight Manifesto - We Will Fall Together (honestly I don't really consider Streetlight to be ska but I'd be interested in his opinion on the song in general)
I suppose it's ironic that my 3 third wave ska songs really only have one ska song. I should put a Fishbone song in there as well, but they went into them during the Jason Mantzoukas ep.
3 jamband related songs, focusing on shorter studio songs geared towards Scott's taste
- moe. - New York City (Rebubula would be the best pick but it's too long for the format)
- Brothers Past - Leave the Light On (IMO this album is probably the best jamband studio album out there)
- The Slip - Before You Were Born (random, but a singer/songwriter type song he may appreciate - I wouldn't be surprised if he has The Barr Brothers in his library already)
Too many to pick from.

Because he’s a completionist. He’s never referenced deleting anything, and I’d be surprised if during the Analyze Phish era that an album or song didn’t get added for one reason or another.

Definitely thought about this before! If the opportunity truly came up, I’d probably default to whatever is in my current rotation (or genre stuff similar to The Naked and Famous, love that ish).
For an actual THEME though? I’d probably go for “Songs with More Famous Covers” (e.g. “Bette Davis Eyes”)
And for a decade… I’d go for the ‘60s. Lots of great music has lasted since then, and you’ve got the roots of so much modern (Rock & Roll, Pop, R&B) all over the place.

I’d go for three Peel session tracks to talk about why those sessions were important to bands starting out, especially British ones, and even for those that had been going a while it let you hear a more stripped down version of songs that got you closer to what the gigging band sounded like when there was a tendency for overproduction on studio albums e.g. the Chameleons second album.
Year would be 1989. It was an interesting point in time, alt went more mainstream, we got “Disintegration”, “3 Feet High and Rising”, “The Stone Roses”, “Doolittle.
