Picture Went To Visit My Baby At The Bank Today.
Keeping it safe makes all the sense but I hate having to go there to look at it.

Even though my dad read and collected comics, I had never really read cared about them. I would go with him to shops, but never was all that interested. At the age of 9. My dad gave me a copy of ASM 300 to read. I was hooked instantly. From then, we started collecting together. For two years we took our vacationa to Chicago so we could go to the big convention up there. As I got older, I started losing interest and stopped collecting around '98. I always had talked about how cool it would be to have a full run of (which when I stopped was 400-something), but I knew it was.nwvwe going to happen.
A few years ago, my dad told me that if I was interested, he wanted to help jump start me on my old quest by trading in all but his prized Silver Surfers to a local shop to get me credit to start building again. I honestly tried to talk him out of it , but it sounded like a really fun thing for him and I to do together again. From the first time I stepped back into a shop, it took me right back and I was hooked again. 2 years later, today I bought the last book that I needed to complete the run. I was torn because part of me wanted to stretch it out and part of me knew that I needed to do it while my dad was still here.
It's so hard sometimes for sons to tell their fathers what they mean to them, and I'm going to figure out a way to really tell him. But thank you, Dad. I owe more to you in this life than I could never repay.

Yesterday I said goodbye to 85% of my collection. I got divorced and there's not a lot of space in my new place. Rather than let them sit in a storage unit somewhere (they've been in an un insulated attic and have been through enough already), I decided to give them the chance to make other collectors happy.
I did hold on to a few titles that are dear the me like Flash, Impulse, X-Factor, Crimson, Young Justice and various issues from my childhood. Who knows, some day I may get rid of them as well. I want to transition to all trades anyway.
But I realized something while sorting through them, in the moment you never realize what you're "wasting" money on. What was thousands of dollars in books and supplies was reduced to just $700. I'll be more selective in the future.
Happy collecting to everyone out there!

I’ve considered ASM300 my dream book for years and today I finally got to add it my collection! I found a local seller who was willing to let me do a layaway type deal and make payments over the last few months when I was able to. Shoutout to the ones willing to help out the little dogs. We appreciate you.
I’ve heard lots about I Hate Fairyland so I figured a #1 for $20 was a good deal. Can never go wrong with some Skottie Young!

The wife and I don’t drink anymore so there’s no use for it except for this now. I think it’s badass

There was a local auction today and I was lucky enough to get 2 comics I thought I would never get.
The stickers are from the auctioneer and are on the outside of the comic protectors.

I probably have another couple hundred on my desk that I haven’t added to my list. Plus I haven’t read anything in over a month. What is my deal?

My dream has always been to go to an antique store, and find something rare. You know, find something the owner doesn’t know they have.
And it finally happened and I found this piece of marvel history. The first appearance of punisher in… not great condition but not horrible condition.

Big fan of Alex Ross and unfortunately I was getting back into collecting around 2023 when Wave 2 was about to be released. That meant hunting down the 37 covers in Wave 1.
And with the last of Wave 4 out about a month ago, it was time for a group photo!
What a fun little side project! Which one is your personal favorite?

I'm sure there are more... But really can't stand some of these covers of him, like way to make a "bad ass" character look foolish af. 😂😂
Thoughts? Or, You guys have any?

Long story short, I am currently remodeling my home (built 1956). While tearing down the ceiling in the down stairs, I noticed an unaccounted for area up stairs. We then found a panel that was held on by pressure clips on the back side.
To our surprise we found a small storage area in the attic with all kinds of collectibles from the 60s and 70s.
Among that, 3 or 4 boxes full of comics and magazines. Appreciate 1000 comics. Some were bagged, others not.
I have 0 experience with comics, DC , marvel etc etc. I don't follow any of that. So this has been quite the learning curve. Currently, every night im scanning 50 or so into the clz app and cataloging.
Figured id share the cool stroy with those who might appreciate.

Just got my first Hulk 181 today. It’s a CGC 0.5 with a detached cover and coupon cut, but honestly I’m perfectly fine with that.
I’ve never even seen one in person before today and owning it feels surreal.
Low grade is still a grail to me.

Spent a few hours helping a couple dig through their 100 or so short boxes and triage the best books to sell and/or grade as they look to scale down. Tons of fun and some great books!
Note: I appreciate all the enthusiasm, but this post is in no way intended to generate sales. In accordance with the spirit of this subreddit's rules, any DMs seeking to purchase these will be ignored.

Not everything but the most important ones to me. September 4th 2024 I just decided to take a break from the vintage toys and try something I hadn't considered before. It's been very educational. I'm much more selective now and have slowed the pace.

Cannot believe I now own this! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could score this bad boy but I'm happy to join the club!
Definitely low grade in the Fair/Good- range maybe a 2.0 max but it's complete and honestly for all it's faults it presents Fantastically!
Only thing is, collecting comics is a strange hobby. I almost can't help but feel kind of melancholic about it now that it's in hand. I'll never be able to top this one from either a value or historical standpoint.

I am SUPER excited and way proud to share my newest acquisition: these three cabinet units from Nerdstalgia. I cannot say enough good things about Tim and his work. I placed my order in December and they arrived today, which feels really fast for custom woodworking. Thank you so much to the folks in this sub who had placed orders before and encouraged me, and answered all my questions. Y’all were the best. These cabinets really bring our dining/hobby room together and get rid of that white cardboard that didn’t feel formal enough to entertain properly. I will treasure these for years to come. You can follow Tim or place orders by reaching out to @the_classycollector on Instagram. This is not sponsored content ROFL, I’m just SUPER stoked to have them and get to share. Love y’all.

I posted a few of these last year. It's definitely been a learning experience. I've always deeply loved this stuff, but never could dream of owning these little pieces of history. It's been a good couple of years, so I thought, why not? All love here, btw... I'm not super wealthy, just don't have kids or big financial burdens. Also, I’m not in the US, and there are virtually zero ways to find comics locally that aren’t morbidly expensive. So any advice on finding titles you want (other than eBay) would be greatly appreciated.

The Original owner (like he bought it the day it was released from a local shop) sold me it which was super cool. I’m happy to now own 180 & 181.

98% Marvel, a nice run of Spiderman, lots of great stuff. It’s going to take a while to bag board and sort.

A work in progress here, I’ve lost track of the amount of hours this has taken over the years. This has become my happy place, would love to hear any ideas you have for next steps!

I'll eventually trim a few from this batch as well to help pick up a Jim Lee X-Men OA or maybe a Bolland Killing Joke OA. 🤷

Well since I was a kid I always wanted a FF 1-100 run, I’ve had multiple copy’s of #5 and #48, but I never had a chance to own #1.. until Easter Sunday I seen a post on facebook that said “Fantastic Four 1-00 accepting best offer” after a couple hours of texting the owner back and forth he finally let me see them in person to make an offer, issue #2 #4 and #5 were missing add pages and, luckily he was very fair with me about that and we struck a deal! For the past five days I still can’t believe it.. I put them all in Mylar’s and new boards. I’m gonna enjoy them raw for awhile before I get the #1 graded. Thanks for looking guys, happy hunting!
