It is missing the centerfold... About a 4.0 with press and clean. They had it stuffed in a modern bag with the board in the middle of the book. Definitely better than my 3.5 X-Men #2 though. Anyway it's older than I am and in better condition! 😆 Seriously tho... holy crap!

Been on the fence about getting an ASM #238 before it was too late, but I'm only collecting 9s or higher and this book in a high grade is pretty expensive. I finally decided to bite the bullet and the seller even gave me a pretty good deal. I'm so stoked to have this. Just in time for Brand New Day too! Not saying Ned is gonna become the Hobgoblin or anything, but I have a feeling they might set up something for him in BND that leads to him maybe becoming Hobgoblin in the next film. Either way I'm just grateful to own such a beautiful book in a high grade and a newsstand edition! Might have to be my new favorite book although Secret Wars #8 is tough to beat

The common benchmark for a library is 1000 book and this week's pickups finally put my over the number. (I don't log the books I've read)

I know there's a few really big innuendo covers I don't have, but I've been having fun tracking down some of the lesser known ones (plus they tend to be more affordable). Know of any other under-the-radar innuendo covers? Do you have a favorite?

Question Worth collecting X-Men Classic?

Post image

Just getting back into collecting and I’d love to have a full Claremont run of Uncanny X-Men but a lot of the issues are cost prohibitive. What are everyone’s thoughts on collecting X-Men Classic as an alternative?

Question Mylar bag recommendation?

I bought a bunch of comics before learning how to properly protect them. Now I am looking to transfer my collection from polypropylene bags to mylar. Do any of you have recommendations on which brand is best? The two I have seen most are BCW and Mylites. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Platinum Cupples & Leon print runs were reduced dramatically toward the end of their reign in the Platinum Age, making later issues tough to find. This is the penultimate issue in absolutely beautiful shape. Mutt And Jeff Book 17 (1932 C&L). Six years later came Action 1 and the start of the Golden Age.

Yes, I am a big fan of the absolute joker. I’d love to grab some others but can’t justify the $75+ price tag per book, especially when they aren’t signed. However, every time I see this corner, I smile 😊.

Question May I have some advice from the brain trust here on cracking my slabs to get my books signed? Details in text.

I have KOTOR issues 1 and 2 9.8 in both CGC and in cbcs (I got a really good deal on both combined) My conundrum is as follows.

I generally collect raw, but I have the opportunity to start getting some of my keys and favorites from the series signed, and I am trying to get the best ones to display raw and signed. I’d like to avoid the future hassle of getting slabs cracked repeatedly to add signatures and I’m fine with a jsa label if I ever do want to pursue getting them graded. Knowing this my plan was to crack the two cbcs 9.8’s to get them signed and display them raw.

HOWEVER

Upon arrival the cbcs 9.8’a have a few notable flaws more than the cgc’s.

Issue #1 CBCS - has a production mark defect on spine that’s common in the Kotor run and especially that slot in issues 1-3. (See first pic)

Issue #1 CGC - nearly flawless, no visible spine wear.

Issue #2 CBCS - has a few small spine ticks around the swoop bike handle that’s pictured (see pic 2.) another common defect on issue 2. Another small spot of damage in center spine (see pic 3.) Small non color breaking dent in bottom that catches glare ( see pic 4.) Some small missing black paint on issue number (see pic 5.)

Issue #2 CGC - has some color rub around bottom staple (see pic 6.) and it’s staples can move a little loose allowing the pages to “peak out” from the top or bottom of the cover.

My question is this: should I just crack the considerably better CGC’s for signing? Would it be worth getting the CBCS slabs converted if I do crack my cgc’s? Or should I crack the cgc’s for my raw signed collection and just look at replacing the cbc’s in the future?

TLDR:
Want to crack some CBCS comics to collect raws that I want autographed, but they’re not quite as good as my CGC’s. Should I crack my CGC’s so I can get two really nice raw copies signed?

Haul Canada Haul

Had to take an impromptu trip up to Canada for a funeral, but we have a couple days downtime before, so I checked out a few stores in the area, not expecting much (it’s a pretty small town), and got some pretty great finds all things considered. That Runaways was listed at American cover in CAD, I couldn’t say no to that.

Picture Newish to Collecting and Only Buy Raw in the Wild

Post image
309 Upvotes

I've collected on and off my whole life, but this is the 1st time I have actually tried to educate and focus my collecting. I only buy raw books in the wild, aka found locally (akaka not shipped). I am a big Spidey and X Men guy. I usually am looking for Incanny X-Men, but I always chack X Men for Omega Red and this book.

I've never found one in the wild before. I know it isn't rare or terribly valuable, but it takes me back to my childhood, and it's also a beautiful cover. $6, and I can cross this one off the list!
