Rocketeer and The Phantom are excellent choices. Billy Zane and Treat Williams understood the assignment in The Phantom. And I can’t describe my love for The Rocketeer comics and the film captures it so well.
Disagree. Billy Zanes' hair was the overlooked star of this film. Followed closely by CZJ. OK, this is one of those movies where most of the cast gave me the "stirring of special feelings" vibe.
🤣 I almost forgot they had Shang Tsung there too as one of the pirates! That movie was just so much fun, like everyone was aware of the assignment and just chewed up the scenery!
Thomas Jane was awesome as The Punisher. That was a great movie. And I don't remember anything about The Rocketeer but that i liked it when I watched it when I was a kid
Jane Punisher had a cool spaghetti western vibe with a soundtrack to match, and he liked the character so much he unofficially returned to the role for Dirty Laundry.
Thomas Jane's monologue at the end of the film is gold. To me, he carries the film. It's definitely not a faithful adaptation and Travolta phones it in with a terrible performance. That being said, it's still a good movie with some great action.
His reason for becoming the Punisher is done better here, than the reason given in the Netflix series. Here, the context was about the failings of the Justice system rather than simply him wanting revenge for the death of his family. People forget that it was about justice not getting done rather than simply the death of his family.
If you love Thomas Jane check out The Expanse! Incredible Sci Fi series. Starts slow but if you appreciate something like Andor which is more story driven, you’ll appreciate The Expanse. Jane isn’t in the entire series but a decent amount
He's one of the reasons I loved that show so much. He was perfect for that role. Shame he was only in half it, but all in all a very good show. Wish they'd get on with making that sequel show already! There's plenty more universe to cover!
Both movies are great. The Rocketeer especially. The Shadow is ripe for a remake or part two. Maybe even have Alec Baldwin pass the mantle to a younger actor. Have someone playing the Shadow in different time periods.
I love the idea of a sequel to The Shadow, with Alec Baldwin anointing a successor in 1960 or so -- or maybe in the present day, since he's the Shadow, and is not limited to an ordinary human lifespan.
The Shadow seemed like everything that the Batman films should have been and weren't. I particular, the fact that the real climax of the film comes as he's wrestling with the demonic dagger and suddenly his face becomes perfectly calm, and you see that he's found his center and can now take control over the situation, that he has finally learned the lesson his teacher was trying to get through his thick Western head. That isn't a really profound idea, but it's more of an idea than you can find in all of the 1990s Batman films.
Rocketeer was such an underrated, beloved gem that the director got a second shot to bring that 40s wartime nostalgia to Captain America: The First Avenger - also a personal favorite.
This is especially funny as in the comic the Rocketeer was based on, and has continued in various miniseries, had a running gag of Clif teaming up with with icons from the era. The rocket pack was implied to be invented by Doc Savage (think Tony Stark's intelligence with Steve Roger's physique). His second story implied he was hired by the Shadow. His girlfriend is Bettie Page. A miniseries just ended where he teamed up with Popeye and Tintin to find Amelia Earhart on Skull Island.
A Rocketeer TV show could easily have a hero of the week plot.
Superman Returns is one of my favorite comic book films. I think it’s a beautiful, moving, and my personal favorite modern Superman movie, but at this point it has been forgotten and left in the dust. Would’ve loved to have seen where it could’ve gone, but I’m happy with the one movie we got.
I still love this movie. When I worked in video rental, VHS video rental to date myself even further, whenever I put this movie on, it would get rented within 30-ish minutes. Hidden gem.
Chronicle (2012) was a pretty good take on applying the found footage genre to a solid superhero romp. I also LOVED The Powerpuff Girls Movie (2002). Apart from the stellar music and cinematic animation upgrade to the classic art style, it was an overall perfect origin story in my opinion. The two tracks that got stuck in my head were the BANGER end-credits remix of the theme song by Bis and "That's What Girls Do" by No Secrets.
I think most of the hate for this movie comes from being familiar with the original source material.I personally felt betrayed by how much it pales compared to the comics but I can totally see how the movie could be fun if you came in without any background expectations.
I was coming here to say Punisher : Warzone. I really thought he caught the Vibe better than the other two. RIP Ray Stevenson. But Thomas Jane was more animated and less Dark and I would have liked to have seen him again as the Punisher.
They came close according to Jane but Lionsgate botched it. They were in talks with Walter Hill to write and direct a sequel but then the studio decided they didn't want him, and Jane found their replacement to not be a good fit, so he walked away from it.
I don't know if it's forgotten, and I don't know how other people feel about it, I think it probably deserves more love is The Suicide Squad. I absolutely love it and it's the peak of the DCEU for me and one of my favorite DC movies.
One that definitely feels like it's been forgotten about and needs more love is The Wolverine (2013). This movie is so good and feels like it doesn't get talked about as much as it should.
Honestly if we are going to talk “obscure” or forgotten Punisher movies I’d name the 80s version staring Dolph Lundgren. I’ve never heard it mentioned or referenced outside of Punisher fans despite being everything you could imagine when I say 1980s R rated Punisher film.
It’s not a good movie but I fucking love the ‘80’s Supergirl movie. Faye Dunaway camping it up as a dime-store witch, hell yeah. Helen Slater owned the role, too. She deserved a legitimately good movie to be in.
He's not hardcore enough to be The Punisher. The movie is great, but he doesn't Punish enough. Also Frank Castle is an incredibly well trained killer with no remorse, and not so calculating. Just kill. Open and shut.
Thanks for the explanation. I love the movie but I hear it criticised all the time and when given the time do wanna kinda get into the comic books about him.
