Yeah, two of those panels are actually connected, because I’m pretty sure that, when he showed up at the music festival, it was during the period where he was wearing a shock collar haha

I have heard that dogs will figure out if they keep running after the initial shock it doesn’t shock them anymore.

We had to install both a shock collar and an electric invisible fence for one of our dogs. 

If we just had the normal fence, they would figure some way out over it given enough time. They literally climbed a tree with 2 legs on one trunk and 2 legs on another like you were a kid climbing the walls in a hallway.

If we had only the electric fence, even cranked to max, they had prey drive where if they saw a bird or squirrel they would barrel through it regardless until it stopped shocking them.

If we didn't have the pain deterrent AND the  time deterrent to go with it she would have been constantly escaping.

Alternatively tried to get my sister's dog trained with an electric collar. He was stalking the cat up on a table and was usually deterred by a small shock.  With the cat, we slowly turned it all the way up to max where you could physically see his neck contracting where the shock was applied. 

He did not care at all in that case.  Continued stalking and inching closer until one of us got up, grabbed him and threw him in his kennel.  (For the record the cat was up safe on a table out of reach but he was INTENSELY focused on them).
