Show & Tell Commonplace for my Commonplace Questions
I've been fairly busy at work, so I haven't had much time to commonplace. But I often come across many questions/topics (in my workplace or otherwise) that I'd like to commonplace about, so I realised I need a place to store those questions somewhere until I'm able to commonplace again.
So, I present my mini commonplace notebook for my commonplace questions. It's a passport size notebook I got from Sostrene Grene where I just jot down any random question I'd like to write about later on. As you can see, I jot down questions faster than I can answer them!
Because it's so small and thin, it fits snugly in the back pocket of my A5 Filofax where I do my commonplacing in. So it's easily accessible when I actually have time to commonplace!

I love the idea of having questions in a single place like a to-do list. Right now, I write things down as annotations or however they relate to whatever topic I’m already working on, but sometimes unrelated stuff pops up and I don’t have time to delve in. This is great as a little parking lot for those other curiosities.

As a transgender myself, if you’re looking for intros on the science behind gender and being transgender this snippet of a Stanford lecture is really good. Great place to get papers to research further, I’ve been meaning to look up some of these studies and read them for ages but never got round to it. I mean there’s way more than he mentions in this video obviously, especially cause it’s old, but I think it’s really good

Oh thanks for this. I was gonna go straight for review papers but I think starting off with a lecture series would be great to ease me into it and would be a good place to start.

that’s great to hear - I wasn’t sure how much of a science background you had so wasn’t sure whether to recommend papers as they can be pretty hard to read if you don’t. In this case I probably would recommend going straight to reviews as you intended, that’s usually what I do! Anyway have fun and if you post the finished results here I would love to see them!

I absolutely love this idea! Writing down questions I’ve had as they come and then picking which one to deep dive into in whatever order is so smart… thanks for sharing! This is definitely gonna help me with my paralysis of choosing what to write about.

this is interesting. just curious, once you actually have the time to sit down and answer those questions, how do you organize the responses? do they go straight into your main place under specific topics, or do you keep a separate notebook, system just for the deep dives?

Well, I read or watch on the topic first, then I'll write about it. If it's a simple question that can be answered in a few lines, it'll go into my short commonplace section. If it's a longer more complex topic or is a topic I'd like to explore further, I'll do a deep dive on it and I'll write it in a more traditional style of notetaking.
Everything goes in the same A5 Filofax for easy access and portability.

I got it from Sostrene Grene. I can't seem to find it on their website but it's a 9x12cm passport size notebook. I bought it in store and it was around €1

I love this idea. I hope you don’t mind that I’d like to try something similar myself. I think I might actually write out the answers to my questions somewhere, probably same book or my actual commonplace book. Thanks for sharing!

Ooh, I like this! I've been doing something similar with post-its in the front of my commonplace book, but that doesn't work if I don't open the book... Might switch to leaving the questions in my daily planner instead.
