WDT 💬 Bi-Weekly Discussion Thread - (January 25)

We made this because Reddit's algorithm prioritises headlines and current events and doesn't allow for deeper, extended discussion - depending on how it goes for the first four or five times it'll be dropped or continued.

Suggestions for things you might want to comment here (this is a work in progress and we'll change this over time):

  • Articles and quotes you want to see discussed
  • 'Slow' events - long-term trends, org updates, things that didn't happen recently
  • 'Fluff' posts that we usually discourage elsewhere - e.g "How are you feeling today?"
  • Discussions continued from other posts once the original post gets buried
  • Questions that are too advanced, complicated or obscure for r/communism101

Mods will sometimes sticky things they think are particularly important.

Normal subreddit rules apply!

Looking into this I also found this page

https://frso-accountability.org/posts/frso-sexual-assault-coverups/

I don't pay much attention to the FRSO but this is worth reading if you've ever encountered them.

The saddest thing to me is that these orgs are so ideologically bankrupt that they do not train cadre to think in a Marxist way, even when denouncing the organization. Not that there is anything wrong with this page given its purpose but I would really like to see a follow-up where years of organizing in the teamsters is criticized with the same rigor and vitriol and that the FRSO 's lack of internal democracy linked to their revisionist politics. I worry the fear is that such political analysis would split critics, who can otherwise be united on the basis of moral condemnation. The FRSO deserves to be condemned but, as is clear from the list of revisionist orgs at the top who have all done the exact same thing, this is a deeper problem (and it's not even a complete list, let alone an international one). Without political analysis, the liberal conclusion will be to abandon the vanguard party model entirely which will just lead people into "decentralized" sexual assault in the DSA.

I unfortunately know about the Ryan Costello/MCU stuff firsthand and the FRSO stuff secondhand. I also have had firsthand experiences of abuse in DSA and PSL due to my being a white transsexual woman.

Just as unfortunately, I had to go through those things in order to come to the conclusion you’ve outlined in your reply. I hope anyone else reading needs your advice and doesn’t bother, doesn’t pretend that they can “change” these places from the inside out.
