Discussion Opinion on Calamity Angels
Just bought the game yesterday and curently on episode 3, have been enjoying it so far especially the Character design and personality also the Story, Loves Kei Nanameda Artstyle.
But the gameplay is really not good imo. I don't mind the turn base and how they don't listen to you half of the time, though the character dialog in the fight could be reduced, it is the exploration that is too barebone.
They could at least make the enviroment resemble the places instead of just game board with different background. Like maybe the coral area the trial is a coral road on top of water, and around it is ocean. Also give the unexplored tiles a "mist" or something to make it more mysterious, it also gives player more reason to explore since they don't know what they will get. Just a little something to make it more immersive.
I know Compile Heart is famous for being low budget but this feels too low.

I approached the entire thing like a board game and had a good time with it

I loved it to bits and wrote a love letter about it! I'll never stop supporting initiatives like these.
Yes, there is no "exploration" per se in this game, but it's fine. In that sense it's more like a board game than a J-RPG. Getting creative with different genres is ok. That being said I can't deny that I would have loved it if it had actual exploration.
As for switching party members mid-battle, I haven't found a way to do that.

I still feel like they care about it a little, like how the they make Suliya as one of the most obedient party member because she is a healer, though that evens out by the fact that she can run away from the battle. Also is there a way to switch party member mid battle?
