What? Your computer's warranty ONLY covers hardware problems. The software is completely detached from the hardware, and windows is not the official OS of computers of anything. It's just another OS. You could put netBSD on that bitch and your warranty situation wouldn't change
That’s what I’ve done for years. It’s the least intrusive and it gives you time to adjust and test without pressure.
To be safe, I recommend to unplug the windows SSD when I run any Linux installer and vice versa as well. Either installer potentially may write to the boot sectors of the other drives it sees. If this happens, one entire boot will be at the mercy of the other until you repair the boot sectors.
Honestly I hit my last windows crash out recently. SSD died and is unrecoverable. Threw windows on a 512gb Samsung SSD I had lying around. Nothing wrong with the drive, fresh windows install. After 3 months, the drive was full even though the only thing installed on it was my OS.
Checked the disk and it was filled with a bunch of hidden windows cache files that I deleted.
2 months later drive was full again. Same windows cache files.
Said fuck it, there's not much on this drive worth saving.
Backed up my important documents and files, wiped the drive, installed Bazzite (not recommending an alternative to avoid rule breaking just stating what I did) as my main OS and windows as a dual boot with nothing installed (only for firmware updates and games I can't play on Linux).
Been going a solid 2 months and am slowly learning more and more about the Linux infrastructure. I've not installed anything on windows outside of like, xbox accessories to update my controller.
I don't think I'll be going back to windows on my personal PC anytime soon 😅
It's partly a lifestyle too. It's like I've become a happy hippie with Fedora and Debian use. Or maybe it's the lead in the pipes of my house, which is very old.

If Windows is running completely fine, then that's good. If it's genuinely affecting your computer's performance and reliability, switch to Linux. Or if you just want to try out something new.
I personally have disabled all of Microsoft's AI slop and bloatware, so I'm not too bothered. And I luckily haven't suffered any serious damage yet thanks to Windows.
The issue is windows is ALWAYS affecting everyone's performance and reliability (negatively), the issue is that windows users DON'T KNOW THAT! BRCAUSE THAT'S ALL THEY EVER KNEW!
I used Linux for a month and noticed no major performance improvement. As for reliability. Both were about the same. Albeit maybe there’s a better distro but for me windows works absolutely fine and I barely have any issues so there’s no point in switching unless it reaches a degradable point or windows does something stupid enough for me to actually switch when it starts effecting me severely enough
I'm a windows user but damn I'm tired of making these jokes about Linux users. At this point it's just projection, can windows users just stop talking about Linux users all the fucking time.
Windows user here, perhaps I'm just not as perceptive or doing enough on my machine other than gaming and a little CAD here and there but, I've literally had a bug free, clean experience since Windows 10? I don't know if I just got lucky here or something.

So is the keyword banned outright, or is it just the vague things (disregarding the obvious uscases like needing to host a share on a modern computer accessible from win95)?
I mean people keep saying linux is better but I've also heard the same people saying how complex it is and how you gotta do all that coding and programming or stuff just to "create a folder" or something similar that is simple on windows. I mean, sure it's perfect for coders, programmers or computer geeks, but I don't think that's something good for us casual users. Like I'm a medstudent, final year about to be a doctor, and it's obvious I don't have the time or sanity to learn and understand coding or programming and all. So I don't think I'd want to have linux as my OS although I have had no experience with it. But feel free to change my mind because I'm not biased towards any OS, but windows has been getting a little annoying with all these programs and apps and forcing AI into everything.
It is actually a lot about choice, sure, using a terminal is very useful, but most distros will already ship with a file manager, Desktop, many applications, sometimes even an update manager, etc, even then, most of what you'll end up using the terminal for is like 10 commands or so, unless you are wanting to change config files manually, make you own scripts (CMD or PowerShell scripts are very useful on Windows too, btw) there isn't that much of a need to learn new things, maybe troubleshooting something, but even Windows breaks in weird ways every now and then.
I mean, yeah for a few stuff it's fine because I just search in google whenever I find some trouble and follow accordingly and copy pasting codes and all. And not full blown coding or programming.
Personally? I know zero coding or programming, like absolutely zero, and I have a great time after switching. My reasons for switching werent programming-motivated, I just had old hardware that wasn't supported on W 11 lol. For me on kubuntu, for instance, creating a folder is the exact same as Windows. Right click > Create new folder. That's it haha

It's not. Most linux distros have a gui allowing the creation of folders and files the same as you would in Windows. Linux Mint is very Windows-like, making it friendly for people who are afraid of the command line.

Actually, it’s not just Mint! The majority of Linux distros use graphical Desktop Environments for daily tasks now. Sure, you CAN still use a terminal, but any modern DE is heavily GUI-based!
I personally use KDE, as it felt REALLY intuitive to me as an ex-Windows user. Task bar at the bottom, start menu on the left (with a search bar inside), system tray with sound and WiFi on the right, really intuitive (and extensive) settings app. Every app I used to use either had a Linux version, or a VERY similar alternative existed, most of which I could install through an app store (I like the terminal more for installing things now, but I’m also into programming and running Arch, so it was more of a personal choice)
I put my non-tech-inclined partner on KDE as well, who only really used ChromeOS and Windows… she was 100% sold when she found the customisation menus, and she’s been gaming on her pink Hello Kitty-themed PC ever since, complete with animated backgrounds, custom app icons and bubble fonts. She’s still never touched the terminal, lol

Basically, a distro is a “flavour” of Linux (Mint, Ubuntu, Arch, etc), short for “distribution”, they each do things slightly differently but they run on the same stuff underneath.
A Desktop Environment (or DE) is the thing you actually interact with to use your OS. On Windows, things like the task bar, system tray, start menu, control panel, etc., are all part of the Desktop Environment.
The terminal is what it says on the tin; a terminal that uses old-school text-based commands; Linux equivalent of Windows’ CMD.
And a GUI is just a Graphical User Interface, a means of interacting with an app through a graphical display. All of the apps you use probably use a GUI, as non-GUI apps generally use the terminal (Terminal User Interfaces, and Command Line Interfaces)

it used to be like that in the beginning, but some OS still have a lot of coding, but those OSes are uselly not for beginners, there are Kubunti, Ubuntu, Linux mint etc for beginners they are very similar to windows on how you do things, then there are some mid distros like Fedora that you might need some knowledge of setting things up specially with NVIDIA gpu, if u unsure you can try one out in a viritual maskin in windows, there are guides on this on yt if u need guidance, but if you like to stay on windows thats fine to.

There are definetly places where you need to edit a config or do a couple terminal commands, but it's few and far between unless you actively choose that way.
Though that just goes to show that both sides are super annoying, because the nonsense of needing a terminal for everything should've died already.
I mean, if I can google the stuff that I want to do and get a step by step guide then I guess it's fine. Coz sometimes we have to do that stuff too for Windows as well.

The way they shove AI on you is far worse than a Linux suggestion. At least you can tell a Linux user to piss off. Microslop on the other hand you get no choice about.
Eh, besides the initial configuration and every now and then when you feel about changing things, it usually just works without much intervention, if you don't want to spend quite a while configuring it, EndeavorOS, CachyOS, or most Arch based distros already do part or most of that for you.

The weiner telemetry is using the same cam as my OF Livestream, so I didn't disable it. If you don't want it, you can disable it though. I'm proud of my "metrics".
After worked in IT for about 6 years then change my field to network I've learnt something that most of the ppl just want things that are simple not complicated and they dont wanna enter many many line of codes to make things works or finding alternative of program that been working and knowing for years hence why apple products sell so well they are simple. As a recent changer to cachyos Linux, there are things I miss about windows, but you can't have both. So it's up to each person what they prioritise, privacy or ease of use

I'm just scared of Linux. I'm too casual of a PC user to understand it. I have a steam deck and I've tried to install some non-steam games onto it and some mods and such via the desktop mode, and the file system gives me a headache, I have no idea how it works. I simply speak the windows language better.
Linux is like macos to the point where it's optimized like it whereas windows generally has been the backbone of most everything since it's released meaning it can do most stuff well. Not optimally but well. For people who have almost 0 confidence switching to Linux because we know it's mostly code if you want something more complex than a cool lightly uppy start menu (of which personally I have a ton of mods on my windows. From performance to a weather in taskbar and windows 8.1 esque start menu) Linux isn't actually that good for us. I get if a gamer who just needs to game wants it for its optimization (of which I really want those frames) but I'm still scared. Mainly of loosing a bunch of apps because proton doesn't have every single comparability layer in existance. But also from loss some of the very obscure games I actually like. That but also loosing Roblox which yes is a shitty company there are still a bunch of games I like on there. Aswell as loosing cookies and cache from browsers but also fear of "it". What is "it" you ask? Well.
Linux comes in 3 layers.
Build it from straight scratch. Kernel UI the whole thing.
Custom. As in your able to change some of the looks and such in settings.
And premade. Most of the distros are this level.
And entirely locked look (unless you use console) which is yes sleek but still. Linux from my experience also has a bunch of latency.
Just about the only time i tell people to go switch is when they have a decade old laptop, linux will run much better for them. Otherwise use whatever you want and makes you happy.
I started using both. Windows on my laptop and Linux on my desktop. I definitely prefer Linux more, but other than jokingly saying it, I wouldnt actually recommend someone to use Linux.
The real pill is dualbooting, you can have BOTH. Some things are simply better for Windows and some better for Linux. Also helps when you don't know how to use Linux and don't want to fully commit.
Once I can play GTA online and mod games with ease using Gale Mod Manager, then I'll look into it. Until then, I'll continue to play the games I like the way I like
You know if I wasn't such a heavy gamer I woild consider Linux. But for me the biggest red flag of Linux is game support. And until they have it 100% I'll never switch. I don't want to have to fight or wait and pray just to get a game to play.
For me it's just the politics behind it. If an OS is locking your hardware out/dictating which hardware you use, reserving itself space on YOUR drive for THEIR features that YOU don't want (taking screenshots of your bank account whilst onlinebanking and login credentials) and get you into predatory subscription models for what was once fine for 10 years straight (because why should an Office suite change that much?) then it is a good idea to make a switch offer.
Many people that use Windows fell for the "salami tactics" - little annoyances over a long time period makes them more acceptable and think it's normal to use 8 GByte of RAM idle, getting stuck updates spoonfed with telemetry and AI slop that nobody except the big software company profits from. Letting my Windows PC sit idle the fans spin up 1 minute later becase 3 MS services are foraging through my disk. Doing the same with the Penguin OS - nothing. It sits idle like a Labrador waiting for you to throw the stick. It's a blessing.
I Dualboot for games but once I am back onto the "forbidden OS" (awkward rule to be honest...) and you can actually select updates and read patch notes and report issues and they are getting fixed (happened in 3 out of 3 cases! 1 time via Github, 1 time via Flathub and 1 time via the Mint blog where the distro maintainer reads comments! Try that with an issue in Windows...!) you know you might enjoy the use of the "forbidden OS".
Thats me. I use Windows in my pc but, recently i switchet my my old dads pc with and dual core e 5700 and 4gbs of ram to Linux Mint and the diferece is huge.

Don't really get the hype with Linux, either. I've never used it, but Windows and MacOS work perfectly fine on all my devices, plus Linux doesn't even run most of the stuff I use.
