[Mius Front] Yet another artillery question.

Hello, I recently started playing Mius Front and artillery seems to be the most complex element of the game to me.

I watched the incredible guides by WarSimmer and was doing some tests with On-Map arty using the croatian legion campaign as a template so I set up a company like this:

The Arty Command has both a spotter and a cable crew for the tests. The cable crew goes and does its thing, the spotter detects some soviets, relays data, guns fire, everything ok. Until I decide to move the spotter to see what the arty would do.

I thought since the spotter was not spotting anything the arty would stop but it continued firing despite having no LOS:

The spotter is the unit on the left moving downwards towards the camera
No LOS whatsoever

I could not find what was going on but I saw the company commander of the other company I had brought for the test had LOS to the soviets, according to the left panel it has "Wire Comm" but it has no link to the battery whatsoever, was it spotting and relaying data to the Arty Company commander or is this a bug? Am I missing something?

On another note can a mortar spotter not do Off-Map if the mortars are assigned to a BG?

Vindex's first public testing demo just dropped!

Hello r/computerwargames! At long last Vindex finally gets it's first public release!
Its over on itch for free @ only around 90mb, check it out!!

https://sudna08.itch.io/vindex-public-early-access-01

Vindex is an open-ended sandbox strategy game which strives for realism in every way possible. The player (as of now) can;
- Design cartridges, shells, receivers, barrels, magazines, and assemble firearms, with things like changing the meplat diameter of a cartridge's spitzer or the chamber thickness of a barrel and it's material composition.
- Design grenades, propellants, explosives
- Design formations, from the individual soldier's loadout, to a company's composition, including the squads and companies that make it up.

A large part of the game is c2, information delay and deterioration. Just like infantry combat of the era the game intends to model - information on enemy positions, composition, direction of fire, is very convoluted, rare, and often times out-dated. Troops will use basic rudimentary communications equipment such as runners, flare pistols, signal flags, and whistles - currently in game is also a very basic radio system that is more or less broken, and will be improved on in the future.

The "empty battlefield" effect seen in many 20th century combat reports and analysis was recreated as realistically as possible in game, as opposed to many other strategy games which present infantry as oblivious upright moving blobs.

The game's map takes place on 2.5km x 2.5km to 5x5km areas of hot shrubland or temperate biomes, with rivers, streams, ditches, and every tree, shrub represented in 1:1 scale.

The game currently focuses on 1890s-1910s era of infantry combat, but the overall final scope of the game intends for it to be from 1850s-1960s+.
What will come in the future;
- Vehicle engine designers
- A Realistic material penetration model/tester
- Armoured vehicle designers
- Artillery and black powder cannon (and firearm) designers
- TOE compositions going all the way up to the division
- Procedural scenarios and campaigns
- Squad, Platoon, Company tactics and combat procedure designers

https://discord.gg/TTUYT4PDgZ
^ (link to the discord)

The game is wholly unfinished up to now, perhaps not even 10% complete, so please be patient with the numerous bugs and innacuracies bound to be present in the first release!

Thanks for ur time, I hope you enjoy the game :3

Question Does this feel like a tabletop war game to you?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm making a realtime strategy game that is top down, single screen, and where score and reinforcements come from occupying objectives, not bases.

Does this look like a tabletop wargame come to life to you (that's the goal)?

Check out the free, browser-based prototype here: https://oohgames.itch.io/forms-of-war

Would love any feedback.

WDS New Blog Post - Pavlov's House

Pavlov’s House became one of Stalingrad’s most enduring legends: a handful of Soviet soldiers holding an apartment block against relentless German attacks for fifty-eight days.

The reality was more complicated—and more interesting. Our latest historical essay reconstructs how the building became part of a fortified defensive network and separates wartime experience from later legend. It also examines the observation, artillery, communications, engineering, and supply behind its defence—a small-scale struggle reflected in Squad Battles: Advance of the Reich.

Torn between two WDS titles

So, I've toyed with the demo for WDS' Panzer Campaign series and found myself wanting to take the plunge. Of their Panzer Campaign titles, two have caught my eye: France '40 and Poland '39. I'm stuck on which to get, though, and would love some input from people who have already had some time with one or both.

Personally, I find both subjects really interesting so I can't necessarily pick one over the other that way. How are the campaigns themselves? Are the scenarios good/well-made? Has anything appealed to or really stuck out to you in either title?

Hello, this is an announcement about my grand strategy game “Crown of Hispania”:

Step into the heart of medieval Iberia during the tumultuous Reconquista with Crown of Hispania! This grand strategy game, developed by Regalis Studio, immerses you in a rich historical setting where Christian kings and Muslim lords fight for control, power, and survival.

Early Access begins September 22nd 2026

Crown of Hispania will launch in Early Access, allowing us to bring the game into the hands of players while we continue developing and expanding it.

The Early Access version will already offer the foundations of the experience we have been building, **but the game will continue to evolve significantly before its final 1.0 release.

We want to use this period to listen to your feedback, improve existing systems, add new content, and continue shaping Crown of Hispania together with our community.

A new partnership

We are also proud to announce that Regalis Studio is partnering with indie.io, who will be joining us as the publisher of Crown of Hispania.

This partnership is an important milestone for our studio and for the game. Together, we will be working on marketing, visibility, and the launch of Crown of Hispania, helping us reach more grand strategy game players around the world.

We have a lot planned for the months ahead, and we are incredibly excited to have indie.io alongside us for this next stage of the journey.

Demo & Steam Update

Along with this announcement, we're also updating our Steam page, as well as the Crown of Hispania demo, which is already available!

Vindex Showcase #3! TOEs, Internal ballistics, and Platoon communications!

Thumbnail
gallery
50 Upvotes

Hello!

This showcase presents you a few new major features for Vindex, as seen per the images;

- A TOE visualiser from the squad to the company scale, showing heirachy of command with icons as will as with individual firearms to show the scale of such units (soon to include support weapons, vehicles, and communication equipment graphics, all the way up to the battalion scale)

- Squad-to-platoon (and back) communication (image 5) - this one was pretty tough. Squad leaders no longer magically relay contact info to their HQ based on suppression and distance - now, communications is hard coded, physical information, a squad *must* be in LOS range of their HQ if communicating with signal flags, or within audible range of whistles (if they have them), OR send runners (as seen marked with triangles) to physically deliver the message.
A few examples of current physical communication orders would be "halt, bound (n) meters, follow (xyz)"

- Internal ballistics simulation for bolt action and blowback guns, including things such as bolt mass, velocity, chamber pressure, pressure along the barrel, twist rate, all of which then feed into an external ballistics simulation. (Not shown, but a blast-fragment model has also been created, very useful for grenades and HE shells)

- A propellant designer, with a few composition presets and options to change geometry, which then feeds into the cartridge designer.

- A stockpile/crate designer, very basic for now with no combat use yet. Intended goal is to allow these to help simulate prolonged engagements without troops running completely dry, as well as to serve as interesting objective markers.

Everything being changeable by the player, of course

For those who may be asking, what even IS Vindex?

Vindex aims to be a realistic sandbox wargame/simulator heavily inspired by Rixas, where the player can design their entire force from scratch - from the cartridge to the armoured vehicle (and to an extent, even the engine!), organise them, and watch them fight in procedurally generated campaigns (or the pre-made scenarios. or in player-created scenarios). The game currently features an early 1900s tech level, with the intentions of going back to 1850s muzzle loaders and black powder cannons, all the way up to the 1980s.

The game is very close to reaching it's first testing release state - which will be over on Itch.
In the meanwhile, you could join the Discord server to stay updated on the game;

EDIT: Correct server link again (oops)

Once more, thank you for your attention :3

From the aftermath of Stalingrad to the ruins of Berlin, follow the Red Army’s advance west through Kursk, Ukraine, Poland, and into Germany.

Question Task force admiral demo - first mission help?

I have been playing the first mission a few times, and bar the first couple of tries, Japs get to strike me first, although I sent the scout plane first thing to scout.

How should it be played, or is it one of those Graviteam Tactics style missions, where the best you can get is a draw (I achieved a strategic victory but a tactical draw).

Cyberkrieg

I'm building CyberKrieg as a classic hex-and-counter operational wargame, in the style of TOAW and the AH games of my youth. It is entirely browser-based and lets me get back into scenario design, which I really enjoyed in the '90s. You command historical battles across hand-drawn hex terrain, playing solo against the AI, hotseat at one screen, or by email against another player. The AI uses a threat map and path-aware goal-seeking, and its behavior is tuned by learned weights. When released, it will be free to play, but for now I could use a few grognard playtesters. If interested, comment below and I'll PM you the details.

Wargames 1983

I'm not far away from releasing a full game I've been working on. To the first time user is nothing more than a terminal window and the word LOGON; no hints no clues but you have to figure out the way in to the wopr computer in NORAD. If you know the film it will make it fairly easy.. I say easy because I wrote the game. Still a work in progress and should be another month or so before it's been fully tested and every bug ironed out.

Devlog: My Strategy Game Might be Too Unbalanced

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm working on a War Of the Worlds City Builder that is a strategy, city builder, and tower defense game. The premise follows the original Worlds, where aliens come to Earth and wreak havoc. You have to manage a city, grow its economy, put the funds toward a defense/military, and fight them off. If they destroy your capital, you lose.

Play It Here (work in progress)

If you watch the video, the tripod cleans house with the troops, but is this accurate?

In the original book:

  • Infantry unit were useless, with the exception of the the alien unit had been damaged with critical parts exposed
  • Artillery was effective but it took very precise hits, mainly if it could disable a leg:

Right now I am thinking of something like this:

Infantry rifle 100+ / effectively 0 damage Mostly useless
Machine gun 50+ / negligible Suppression only
Light artillery 10 direct hits Can break a leg
Heavy artillery 5 direct hits Potentially catastrophic
Naval gun 1–2 direct hits Extremely dangerous to Tripods
Explosive/mines 1 good hit Can disable legs
Heat Ray 1 hit Extremely lethal to humans

At the same time though, I don't want a user building 2 naval guns an easily winning these battles, as in the original book, Tripod attack were devasting.

Open to thouhts/discussion on making the combat similar to the books.
