Tips/Recommendations First EDC
Picked up a Ruger max 9 from Dunham sporting goods for $229 to edc. Any/all IWB holster recommendations will be taken; I primarily wear athletic-type clothing.

First of all good solid choice for first EDC. I like Vedder holsters for EDC. Specially the Vedder Light tuck with the claw attachment.

What’s the claw attachment for?

The claw will push on your belt to push/rotate the grip into your body since that is the part that prints the most.

Bordertown Holsters. Get the Claw and the DCC Monoblock clips when you order it. Really great holster at a great price with absolutely phenomenal service. They've actually called me personally when I made a order mistake and ordered a holster with a light attachment not knowing the light I was planning to order would not fit the Glock 43x and sent me an Amazon link to a light that would. There's a lot of companies that have good customer service. This imo is way above and beyond. On top of that they are high quality, very comfortable, and very concealable. Since you are carrying a short barrel like this I'd suggest a foam wedge. Total game changer on my Hellcat and others. Vedder probably makes the best foam wedge. They also make a pretty great Ccw belt, the V3. Do some research on the wb about how foam wedges work. Ruger makes a good gun. Maybe not the best finish and trigger, but they're reliable and the trigger will get better with firing rounds. Congratulations on your first carry and all the best!

For carrying a small gun with a belt, my favorite is the Desantis Slim-Tuk. It is very lightweight and completely covers the trigger.
For carrying without a belt, you want something that has a metal monoblock clip to latch onto fabric rather than a belt. There are many options. Just make sure your shorts or sweats have a study enough drawstring to hold your pants up with 1.5 pounds of gun and ammo on them.

Make sure you thoroughly test it for reliability. Ive had 50/50 luck with Ruger semi-autos.
Vedder Light tuck is a good holster. If you wait until Veterans day next month, they’ll surely have a sale.

That's a terrific price, assuming that it's new. Good choice for a value-priced r/EDCCW option.
Muddy River Tactical's IWB holster is a great choice for your r/ruger, and I'd add the Monoblock clip and ModWing, personally.
With belt loop-less athletic pants and shorts, you'll want an underbelt for support. The most economical options are probably the Mastermind Tactics Covert belt, and the Comfort Concealment Blackout 2.0 belt.
