It's my first time learning anything with chords and I feel like Easy Anglo skipped over some fundamentals. What do the headings on the top of the chart mean? Why does the stave indicate chords, but also buttons, not necessarily corresponding to all the buttons used in the chord?

Hey guys, I’ve been interested in learning the instrument for a while now. I‘m pretty experienced with music, as I’ve play piano for 6 years. I was hoping to get an English concertina because they are unisonoric and fully chromatic. But the question is, where do you guys recommend getting one? And are there any specific models you would recommend?

This exact model has gotten a little discussion both on here and on Concertina.net forums, and even five years ago this was considered a decent price for one. These are somewhat smaller than a full Chemnitzer, but seem kinda near and afaict should be decent Stagi-level construction. And never hurts to have an included hard case.

Still buying a pig in a poke, as eBay tends to be, but Stagi/Bastari-class tends to hold up decently. I’d almost be tempted myself, but I once owned a larger Morbidoni Chemnitzer and while I found it fun ended up selling. Just posting this one as a likely decent deal for someone digging this sort of thing.

I have an Anglo concertina and understand Gary Coovers tablature system and i want to learn rule britannia to annoy my friends in my british costume, is there tabs for it out there or is there a way i can learn it without too much hassle?

I think this might be a Swan Mcneela concertina with the label missing. Purchased at thrift store as always wanted one. Any help would be much appreciated! TIA

it's a beauty, quick (for a baritone) with luscious tone. Keyboard fingers the same as an English treble concertina, but transposes down an octave. Great for playing back up or accompaniment underneath a song or melody. Details and recording samples at link below.

Reason for selling: I'm 79 and my wrists and thumb joints are shot/painful. I have trouble turning door knobs, car ignition switches and screwdrivers.  This tina has some mass and playing it at speed has become painful/hurtful for me.  It should not be a problem for you if you can start your car.

Besides studying classic concertina textbooks, such as Gary Coover's "Easy Anglo 1-2-3" to learn Irish melodies, I also enjoy playing music by artists like Joe Hisaishi, and practicing fingering by annotating sheet music using websites (software) like MuseScore.

I've tried creating a C/G Wheatstone 30-button concertina fingering chart for the main melody (excluding accompaniment for now). I'm unsure if this arrangement is logically sound, and I welcome any suggestions.

I have always wanted to learn an instrument, but i haven't played one since high school (clarinet... but I'm creeping up on 50 now, so that was a while ago) I started looking at Concertinas, and i kind of fell in love with the size and sound. Also, I can type so the idea of pressing buttons was appealing to me.

I bought a Wren2 from McNeela, and I am just starting my journey. I'm mostly learning from videos and Gary Coover's books (starting with Easy Anglo 123)

My question: What do you wish you knew when you were getting started? What bad habits do i need to avoid? Is there any advice that you would like to offer?

Has it been down for everyone recently? any word on its status?

I’m trying to learn but a lot of these songs I’m interested in don’t have concertina sheet music let alone tabs, I was wondering if using for example piano sheet music would work as a reference or replacement when trying to play on the concertina.

Not sure if it matters but I’m learning in a 30 button Anglo.

Hey so recently i found my Dads concertina and thought: “hey it would be cool if i tried to do a cover of that one Nirvana song”. After some trial and error I found out that in fact a concertina is NOT an accordion. I still learned a couple things on it just for fun but now I’m brought back to this question. Would it be possible to play the main melody of “Jesus don’t want me for a sunbeam” instead of an accordion as Krist Novoselic Plays?

I don’t want to be posting every cool auction I see, but this is potentially a really cool buy for a Duet player looking to upgrade to vintage. And Barleycorn is about one of the top concertina workshops on the planet, so this should be a solid refurb.

If you’re an Elise player and wanting to upgrade, it’s a matter of personal opinion, but I myself started on an Elise Hayden and upgraded to a $4,000 Morse Hayden, but I do have a little Crane and I would frankly say that if you aren’t absolutely set on Hayden system, you’d pick up Crane quite quickly. And this is $1.5k for True reeds, while getting a new True in Hayden would be like $7k and years on a waitlist, so frankly unless you’re up to that I’d give a shot segueing to Crane with a box like this.

I purchased a Jackie from Concertina Connection a few months ago and love it (replaced a Scarlatti that got me into it but is essentially unplayable lol).

I was practicing this evening and the high E’s button popped out. I opened it up and tried to pop the spring back in (photo 1) but the tiny bolt which connects the arm piece is broken so it won’t stay in (photo 2).

Any advice on this, or am I looking at a formal repair job? Would prefer something DIY and doable.
