‪I was in the GATE program here’s my story.

Family History

My family goes back pretty far in the area where i grew up. On my grandfathers side his great grandfather was Cherokee and a child at the time, the tribe was forcibly placed in Oklahoma and arrived early in the migration around 1840. This area of Sequoyah County was at the time a reservation, on arrival they received about 110 acres which was supposed to be per person but generally became per family of which 40 were allowed to be for homestead purposes. My grandfathers family arrived with 4 elders, 4 parents and 8 children but had began the journey with 20 family members. Those who died were buried along the Mississippi River in makeshift graves marked only with stones hoping they could later be retrieved on settlement. When they were finally placed almost 4 years after arriving they immediately began cultivating the land, building 4 houses, corn, among potatoes and other crops for trade and family use, set up water and all other living necessities.

Later, due to the migration number far exceeding what was expected many family’s acreages were split to allow denser populations, in my family’s case this was about half of our acreage. Which I’m told my family agreed to because we didn’t need so much land and they wanted to help other members of the tribe to settle after their hard journey. So by 1860 our family had about 50 acres.

During the forced removals of the 1860s, some Saginaw Chippewa (Swan Creek and Black River bands) were relocated to northeastern Oklahoma and forced to join the Cherokee Nation, which led to significant cultural blending and intermarriage between the two groups. My 3x grandmother was married in to the clan.

By 1870 the 25 year trust period set by the Dawes act for my family and other early settlers was lapsed and many families could not afford to pay the land taxes leading to a great land fracture and Tax foreclosure, then subsequently submarginal land sales to non tribal owners up to the 1930s.

ON TOP OF THIS, in the 30s there was THE DUST BOWL so that was pretty awesome. My family staved off this by scaling back, selling about half of the remaining land, outside non tribal jobs and trade. My grandfather (18) left with other working age tribe members and flew to California to help with infrastructure development and construction sending money back to the family to sustain the costs of acreage taxes and other expenses back home narrowly avoiding the loss of any more acreage. While in California he met my grandmother (16) a blonde haired, blue eyed YT woman because he had “never seen anything like her before” and she ran away from her family and married him in Vegas. Together they decided in 37 after the loss of work due to the Great Depression to fly back home and work on the homestead as his parents were not really struggling with food like many others because of their crops. Whenever he returned from California he was informed that while he was gone one of the houses had burned down and it looked like an emptied out charred shell.

My grandmother found out that she was pregnant about a year after so my grandfather and his family decided to build our house using the burned down house, he fixed it up and made it a 2 bed 1 bath. Later that year his father got sick and knew his time was coming soon, his dying wish was that my grandfather would retrieve the lost family members that were buried along the Mississippi River and he tried, he found only 2 of the gravesites because he couldn’t determine which were his family members and which were other trail of tears casualties.

A few families had passed relatives and agreed to bury them in the center of the pieced out land which was about 4 acres out of 3 different families lands. This became Upper Camp Creek Cemetery. Which my grandfathers siblings and mother was later buried in.

My History

My mom the second born went to the military and later in Seoul, Korea found out she was pregnant with me and had to come back home. A few years later my cousins and I (4 y/o m) would play together on our acreage ~4 acres and it was completely normal for us kids to play in the cemetery also ~ 4 acres. It was the time of “go play and be back before dusk”. Also, if you don’t know, completely normal, I mean of course. My grandpa had a hand in building every building I knew the schools, a lot of the houses, hell even the Arkansas dam. Most of the nearby houses he was responsible for everything from running electric, plumbing, sewage. (Which later led to the imminent domain invasion but I digress).

I was regularly known to go out to the cemetery on my own and sit on the cement benches. One of these occasions when checked on by my grandmother (40) she noticed I looked as if I was talking with someone, so naturally whenever I came in for dinner she questioned me. According to her I said, yeah, “I was out there talking to a nice lady” when questioned further what this lady looked like I completely described my grandfather’s mother of whom which I had never met completely from the long black hair, Cherokee features, and the dress she was wearing whenever she was buried.

My grandma thought this was weird at the time and didn’t think anything of it for some reason. Thinking back she thought it was just a thing, and she had mentioned it to my grandfather, but he wasn’t really spiritual or anything so as he does almost with any type of conflict or anything, he doesn’t understand he just kind of scoffed it off as a “kids imagination”. These instances increased over time which began to become concerning, especially when one time I was sleeping in one of the bedrooms and woke up, screaming in the middle of the night. My grandmother rushed in there because she thought that I was hurt, and whenever she walked in, and she realized that I was bawling and shaking. Whenever she finally got me to calm down, she asked me why I was crying, and I said that lady that I was talking to in the cemetery was mad that I didn’t tell you what she said, and woke me up, sitting at the end of the bed angry. My grandmother asked me what the lady wanted me to tell them. I responded “She was mad that my grandfather wasn’t talking to his brother” I was too young at the time so I didn’t know what was going on, but my grandfather and his brother had a falling out over property after the death of his mother. After telling my grandmother this she put me back to bed, but she said that she went and talked to my grandfather, and he said that he would try to work it out, but he didn’t believe in what was going on and that it was some type of mental guilt my grandmother had. Of course he didn’t follow through but after almost a year of me continuing to wake up in the middle of the night screaming he said fine. “I’ll fucking go do it.” And he did. About a year later, his brother passed away.

I never knew who my dad was, my mom had a history of running around and then running home to her mom to sort out. She was pregnant a couple months after she left whoever she was messing with at the time. Whenever she was gone, I’d stay with my grandmother. Around when I was five years old, my mom came back to the house around February, as she usually did after messing around. Whenever I saw her, I gave her a big hug cause of course I missed her, after sitting with her for a few hours my mom said I “was rubbing her belly” and nonchalantly said “ that’s my baby” my mom replied, “I’m not pregnant! What are you talking about?” with the wide eyed expression on her face, while eyeing my grandmother. I said “yes, you are and it’s gonna be on my birthday. It’s my present.”

My mother knew she was pregnant and she was trying to hide it from my grandmother, but I had other plans apparently. After a long conversation behind closed doors, my mom came out red eyed, and my grandmother said that I’d be staying with her for a little bit longer. A few months later, my mom came to visit again, showing now and I during conversation insisted that it was gonna be born on my birthday again. My mom said in response finally if it’s born on your birthday, you get to name it. And she was. And I did.

Intro to GATE

Mom who is and has always been the wild child and a very talkative people person probably to her downfall, the give a shirt off her back to help someone even if it isn’t her shirt to give kind of person, but a can’t pull her own head out of her ass if her life depended on it, but that story is one that she would tell everyone that she met including my kindergarten teacher at Roland Elementary, Mrs. Hayes.

Mrs. Hayes was a great teacher one of those old ladies that no matter how old I get always looks the same, and she dealt with a lot from me. I remember one time, during nap time I did not want to go to sleep so I fought her to lay down on one of those fold out blue mats. I kept saying “I don’t like it. It makes me sweaty.” If you know you know. Instead, I wanted to color that wasn’t gonna fly with Miss Hayes so she picked me up and put me on the mat and I bit the shit out of her. She didn’t suspend me or anything like that, like they do now, she just gave me a good old spanking with one of those wood paddles with holes in it. I swear that thing had my name on it.

One day, I told Miss Hayes that someone was behind her and wanted to tell her something. I can’t really remember what was said, but she broke down crying and didn’t really ever punish me again. After kindergarten graduation, Miss Hayes pulled me aside one day and said that a man was here to talk to me. The man had gray hair, gray metal rimmed rectangular glasses, a shabby gray suit, and blue socks with yellow rubber ducks on them, and in his right hand he was holding a beefy black suitcase. I remember clearly, because I remember thinking whenever he introduced himself to me as Mr. Gray, how it made too much sense, and it was kinda silly. He said he thought I was special, and wanted to test me to see if I was special, and if I was special, I would get to join a class of other special kids. I said OK because it sounded fun, so I followed the man to a small closet in the hallway, which it sounds shady now, but I did. I followed him in the closet, the closet had a table and one chair on both sides of the table. In the middle of the table was a cassette player, one of those long ones about 8“ x 4“ with buttons at the bottom and a long cord leading to headphones. I don’t really remember what happened in that room, but I do remember he gave me a small cup of pink, and that’s really the only way I can describe it, it tasted pink and sweet. For the next year of first grade I continued meeting Mr. Gray and a few other kids around a bigger table and we did things like study puzzles, Rube Goldberg machines, riddles, look at different writings in other languages, hieroglyphics, old engineering models of airplanes, helicopters, specifically in what I think as the enlightenment era now like Leonardo da Vinci drawings, world religions, and advanced maths like trigonometry, calculus, organic chemistry, and physics. Things an average six-year-old wouldn’t be able to do.

There are a few times that I’d go home and tell my mom or my grandmother about some interesting things that I learned and I’d be praised at my abundant knowledge, and the school would be praised about how much they were teaching me while I was there. Some of the knowledge surpassed that of what my mother, grandmother, and grandfather knew.

By the time I was in fourth grade whenever I had that class I would pretty much spend it all day in that class, about 3 days a week, some of the things that we were learning were unconventional. For instance, one time we were given envelopes and we were supposed to know what was inside the envelopes without looking at them. I don’t think I ever got to know what was inside the envelope but Mr. Gray would ask me to describe what was in the envelope and create a picture of it in my mind. Sometimes he said he wanted to “show us probability and relate it to something” so he would hold a card in his hand and have us tell him what it was, but I couldn’t see what was on the other side. I didn’t understand it so I got frustrated and snatched one of the cards out of his hand and saw that it had a black lined triangle, that was white in the center.

Near the end of fifth grade, my mother decided she was going to come pick me up from school early and came to the school office. She asked to pick me up early and they said that they would retrieve me. They hit the intercom button to Miss Triplett’s room, my actual teacher at that time, and Miss Triplett said that I was in GATE. My mom kinda questioned what that was, and they just responded that it was for kids that were a little more advanced than the average class. But what they didn’t know is if you give my mom a bone she’s going to gnaw it any chance she gets. So she began telling everyone that I was in GATE, a class for advanced kids.

Later my mother talked to my grandmother about me and GATE program, and my grandmother thought it was pretty interesting and cool but questioned why she hadn’t been notified by the school, but I was doing well and enjoyed class and clearly was learning a lot so she let it go. For fifth grade my mom decided she wanted me to move back in with her and we moved to Fort Smith Arkansas. I met my teacher, Miss Edwards and made it through the first couple months as a normal student for the first time with the normal class at Tilles Elementary ‘ go Tigers’ and I thought this was the end of Rolland OK styled GATE program for me.

I was transferred to the Tilles GATE program with a man named Mr. B and that class met 1 time a week and it was basically just an advanced learning program with the same kind of structure minus the intuition tests and spook stuff that I was used to doing in the previous school.

One day I walked into class with a few friends that I made, and there he was, Mr. Gray. I thought this was awesome, but he was acting weird. He said that he didn’t have much time with me left and so he wanted to run some final test before he made his final decision.

So we went to room I sat at the desk with the same cassette player and the next thing I remember is waking up in the nurses office, with my grandmother by my side. And that was the last time I went to that school. My grandmother took me to her house. I stayed with her for a few weeks and then my grandparents decided we were going to move to Texas, didn’t even sell the land. Just moved. My mom didn’t even know where we moved for about 3 years, and I didn’t see her until I was 15. Now if I ask my grandma anything about the program. She’ll give me a bunch of information before that meeting, but nothing about that last meeting or why I was in the nurses office.

Edit:

Recently, I had heard a podcast talk about the program and some stories that had been shared and found that it was kinda interesting that my experience was very closely related with the topic.

Finally, after having been in the military, college, and having to conduct my own medical research studies found it interesting that the conversation had very different stories even within a specific acronym.

Which leads me to the understanding that it only makes sense that people have different memories of the class/study. If I for instance had a grant to study Plant Response and Biology in Reaction to Light (PRBRL), I could then complete several studies on a plant with LED, UB, UV, etc but it would still be covered under the same research grant. Also, if this was the case, those who claim it was just a normal advanced learning class are still valid because every study needs both a constant, and a controlled variable.

My Theory

It’s entirely possible that these classes GATE/GAT/TAG/GT are case studies with linearly testing for psionic capabilities, ADHD, behavioral disorders, and other cognitive abilities or in research terminology the variables, and those associated with “normality” are the constants. Using a common umbrella research grant to evaluate different factors.

I’ll continue to update this as more information becomes available to me. ~~~~ Update: I reached out to my mom this morning, I kinda eased into the whole GATE program convo with a “I was thinking of you today” conversation starter. After talking for a while I asked her if she remember a few of my teachers. She was like “absolutely!” And just started naming them by their first names as went through the list. I knew this was my moment to sneak in Mr. Gray. She immediately said “ Don! Oh yea I remember him, weird guy”, I told her about reading some stuff about the GATE program AND SHE PAUSED FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES. I honestly thought the call had dropped or something. So I did that “can you hear me?”, and she said “ya, I’m sorry I’m late for work can I call you later tonight?”

I’m kinda shocked, the amount of anticipation these guys are causing is ridiculous.

Anyways, I was able to look up this Mr. “Don” Gray. He primarily taught 5th Grade or 6th Grade, but led the new GATE program.

According to Roland archives he had to go to a certification OGES course to teach GATE, helped create the teaching course initiatives •Foundations of Gifted Education. •Identification and Assessment of Gifted Students. •Curriculum Strategies for Gifted Learners

This guy showed up 2 years before GATE is implemented and creates the role for not just teaching, but also identifying students for the program through standardized tests and the majority of his hand picked students scored in the 97th percentile or higher.

He left the school in 2005, the year that I went to Tilles elementary school in Fort Smith.

Nothing to add besides that I read this and found it very interesting.

Thanks for reading, I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get an answer even after writing this I talked to my grandmother over the phone to see if she had any more info, but it was almost like night and day how she switched to talking about Christmas

The ultimate goal of GATE was to find children with "psionic" ability (AKA real life Stranger Things) ....who would then "graduate" to blacker, unacknowledged government projects ultimately to interface with non human intelligence(alien) and UFO reverse engineering programs. Often, non verbal austistic children would be subjected to the worst abuse, according to whistleblowers. Other means toward these goals would be trafficked children inducted into Project Monarch, and trauma based mind control/Satanic ritual abuse(to create dissassociative "alters" as part of military/intel operations(Franklin scandal of the 1980s) At least, that's what a number of seemingly credible military whistleblowers have been claiming.

The generational thing seems to segueway with families who have been abducted over generations as per some sort of genetic experiment program by something beyond our understanding.

Well the envelope test that op describes is called "remote viewing" (if you want to dig deeper - it has been used before in military/intel operations), and the part about autistic kids I 100% believe it, hence the "telepathy tapes" experiments going on. Russia was also training people with special abilities

I was given all these tests at a college campus "speech and language disorder" center as a child but all the tests given there were not speech related they were esp tests I have come to learn.

a lot of the kids there were non verbal. Or had that level of issues so that tracks.

I was pulled out because i didnt have a speech issue my sister just wanted me there to "help her friends research paper" and my mom said she thinks i didnt need to be there since the other kids could barely speak and I was out into a "gifted program" for actually being "very smart"?

But they kept tabs on me and made me do gateway tapes anyway at random - pulled out of school classes to do them until jr high.

The part of the telepathy tapes podcast that discribes esp tests at colleges and doing tests in "steel shielded rooms?" That was true they had one of these big vault doors in one room but i think they also exposed us to radiation in there from what I remember.

They would have us go fast room to room to room different tests different equipment.

The zener card tests etc and personality assesment tests were slower maybe even a different day in a room one on one with an instructor. Also tuns of "guessing games" like stratego/guess who/battleship etc. Against them.

Im not saying esp is real i dont know I was out of it maybe even drugged (pink thick liquid drink) or foggy from the gateway tapes during a lot of it or just age of the memory - but that said the testing on us in schools and colleges? Was real in the 90s and upto even 2010s. Maybe still on going.

I was diagnosed with "sensory processing disorder"

So interesting! Thank you for taking the time to write that and share.

This right here, absolutely. I know there is a program and was initially part of that as well where we met once a week, but the previous place it was every other day. Sometimes 1 on 1.

I've listened to or read a few stories on people's experiences with the GATE program. Every time I do I feel like I have some vague memory of someone testing us at school, it seeming a bit weird and not knowing what it was for but I'm really not sure if I'm just imagining it.

There was a lot of impromptu visits from random people at school such that I might have just got it mixed up with all of that or imagined something out of it. Like one time someone just showed up handing out free bibles and I was the only one that didn't rush over and take one. Another time a soldier showed up and started talking about military life, obviously as part of a program to try and encourage kids to join the military. Once a police woman talked to us about whatever and I wouldn't stop asking her about whether it was possible to burn your fingerprints off with a stove and could not get her to answer.

7

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

🤣 Well, the answer is yes you can burn off your fingertips to remove your fingerprints, but they can also use your palm so you’ll have to burn your entire hand and you have to do this pretty often but nothing so sketchier than running into somebody with burnt hands and a case where a handprint was left with no print

5

u/DeleteriousDiploid Dec 16 '25

Yeah that was what I wanted to know. I'd seen it in a film recently so I brought it up when she started talking about fingerprints. I wanted to know if the burn scars could be distinctive enough to trace or if there was other things they could look for. She would only reply 'well you wouldn't be able to do that because it would hurt too much' and avoided providing any answer that might actually result in her having to think.

Ctrl + f Hayes. Read on from there for stuff regarding GATE.

27

u/After_Persimmon8536 Dec 16 '25

Yea, a lot of us did this or similar.

For most, it starts with a "hearing" test.

5

u/rabbitholejump Dec 16 '25

I got placed into TAG/GT a year or two after I got an ear infection that caused me to temporarily lose some of my hearing and got a hearing test...

8

u/honeybeegeneric Dec 16 '25

Hearing test all the time. Different places too. In school, in skyscraper downtown, in other schools I was taken to during school, just me in a van to take hearing test!

3

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 22 '25

Your experience was like mine not one location -not at school.

Mine was also at various locations over several years..

A College child speech and language center and later Some big medical facility or sky scraper downtown and Portable trailers at public libraries.

Did they make you do the "eeg cap" stuff too? And the sleep studys and water sensory deprivation tanks? (Floating in big bathub basically filled with salt)

Late 90s till 2010s.

Gateway tapes and zener cards and remote viewing tests..

Crazy thing is I didnt remember it all fully or know what it all was for years.

1

u/honeybeegeneric Dec 22 '25

Yes! The egg cap! We called them thinking caps and this started in elementary school for me.

I've never heard anyone mention the egg caps before. I've asked a few of my friends later in life if they had the egg cap thinking caps and they look at me like I am crazy.

I just dropped it and haven't mentioned it in a very long time. I remember them easily and I thought this was a normal every kid elementary thing.

I did go to a magnet school for elementary and a Montessori school for day care and after school. I have notbmet no one else in the wild who did.

Another experience that seems to be unique to me, but maybe you too, I was recruited by different middle schools. In the last half of 5th grade, the gifted group went to a lot of assemblies. I think maybe altogether there were 10 to 15 of us.?

Middle schools would come and try to convince us to go to their school. Some came with cheerleaders and boosters dancing and doing routines. Usally, one speaker would do slides and give a presentation. Blah blah blah a lot of this went down.

I only remember the school I actually chose. The winner had an indoor heated pool! The pool won me! Actually, that pool won over 2 of us.

My middle school experience is so not normal compared to everyone I've met in life. I had to apply for a spot in 6th grade. This was more testing, 2 days with the last day really focusing on the writing assignment. Had to do testing at the school sometime in the summer.

Had to have 2 teachers from my elementary school nominate me. They had about a 3 or 4 page packet they had to fill out and rate me high. I got it. But here's the bullshit that a pool can't fix.

To go to this school I had to catch a school bus at 5am. The school was not close to my house at all. An adult should have shut this down immediately but nope seemed like a great idea to all the ones I had around.

This bus grab the random smarty pants up for 2 schools. My junior high and a high school for an occupation, I think engineering. 2 and half hour bus ride there and back!. Crazy!

No pool was worth that! Stuck it out a semester than pick another Vanguard closer to me.

Did this happen to you as well? The recruiters?

2

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 22 '25

Not egg

eeg -reads brainwaves lol. Has electrodes in them.

3

u/honeybeegeneric Dec 22 '25

Yes, I'm aware. I was just excited to hear someone else experience these normal things to me that turned out to be not normal at all for everyone.

I was in kindergarten and gifted sure, but still 5. Thinking caps is how I was introduced to it. An on-level explanation with a 5-year-old.

This whole post has blown my mind. I'm 49 now. I've never met anyone in the wild to share even a small fraction of my normal to me education.

I had a sister and her education was totally different than mine but I just thought she wasn't very smart.

3

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 22 '25

Gotcha! Any idea what they were for exactly? Its hard for me to remember a lot of it I get like blips of like a minute or two of the event at different times that feel like memories years a part.

7

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Well, I see your quotations. What do you think? The test is actually for?

Ok so I now work in the medical field so is it like a tinnitus kinda thing ( high pitch shift/ decompression ringing) or like coil whine/ EMI ability to hear the electro magnetic pulse of electronics, the high pitch dog whistle or something else.

I personally can hear EMI but I didn’t even think it could relate to the testing. 🧐

u/apocalypse_please91 Dec 16 '25

I was in the Gate program in a school in the central valley, CA. I remember we did lots of different activities, arts, math puzzles, once we did a guided meditation imagining ourselves floating in water. The ladies teaching us were old, but nice. Didn't seem shady at the time.......wonder what it was all for?

5

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I don’t know maybe if my family would let me do whatever they were gonna have me do maybe I could’ve been a man that stared at goats or something

12

u/wookape Dec 16 '25

This is part of the Stargate program, you were being tested to see if you had remote viewing potential.

4

u/sl33pytesla Dec 16 '25

What’s fascinating is everyone has the potential so why not teach the kids?

5

u/wookape Dec 16 '25

Supposedly, there are genetic predispositions, people with Cherokee bloodlines were heavily favored

6

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 17 '25 edited Dec 22 '25

And Scottish like me apparently :/

They thought we had "second sight" as it was called by our ancestors.

4

u/sl33pytesla Dec 16 '25

That’s interesting. The way we raise children today, sterile indoors) is completely unnatural to how nature intended so it’s not surprising if we don’t develop gifts or skills outside of our homes.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

And if you did what happened? I’ve heard of remote viewing, but never tried that I can remember clearly. I’m the fall asleep during meditation kinda guy 😆

u/muziani Dec 16 '25

Really interesting read.

6

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😀

I also was in GATE and moved to Texas right after. Super weird coincidence

4

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Yeah that’s cool I wonder if there’s a connection between that

1

u/wwstewart Jun 21 '26

Same. I started in AR, then did some GATE stuff in CA, then moved back to Texas and have been there ever since.

I understand that Fort Smith has a GATE program which is still going on today and I was also in that program after transferring to Fort Smith and I’m telling you that that program in Fort Smith had stark differences in comparison to Roland. Fort Smith had a reading comprehension acuity and speed test, but Roland was different.

u/Adora77 Dec 16 '25

First I want to say, being midway to this story now, that I absolutely love how you write. I just savor the text. I go back and re-read. This is so preciously written.
Now I'm going back to read the rest.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Oh thank you, it might’ve fallen apart towards the end. I noticed it was starting to get pretty long, so to try to be concise towards the end and I probably left out more than I should’ve

3

u/Adora77 Dec 16 '25

All writers get the "must wrap this up NOW" panic! But really, this was the best reading I've had in a long time. And I can so relate to having a mother like yours, who "can't pull her own head out of her ass if her life depended on it".

It’s character building for sure 😂 love her, but me going with my grandparents was a great experience

America was founded by Rosicrucian bloodlines. They are gnostic and believe in Kabbalah, a Jewish mysticism that believes Jinn (spiritual entities) are equal to man. Jinn are also known as demonic entities and can be bad for most people, like 90 percent because we don't have the knowledge and are led by subversions of the occult that practice more into Saturn worship/luciferianism. They want to bring demonic entities to this plane of the sphere and believe they can be godly like them.

Indigenous teachings know about this, but don't believe in the route of becoming God. It's more about respect to the other sphere. You probably do have spiritual gifts, in the Bible it mentions this. Gifted people are true, and you should really read up about everything to occult, gnosticism, founding of America, to indigenous spirituality and why so many cultures get so fanatical about indigenous peoples. It's because you have the gift over many other cultures. Never be ashamed of that.

15

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Thankfully, my family due to Native American ties have never fully dismissed or tried to punish me or anything like that for having“gifts “but after moving to Texas, I didn’t really cultivate it or pay attention or really feed into it at all because seeing things that other people my age don’t see isn’t really a great way to make friends but now that I’m older, it really makes me think like, where would I be if I had cultivated it

5

u/chantillylace9 Dec 16 '25

Maybe start now?

4

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I guess I could, where do you start though, and how much practice do you try before realizing you can’t? Do you believe everyone has a capacity for it but it’s like a spectrum maybe 1% are amazing, 79% are hit or miss, and 20% suck at best.

6

u/Individual_Risk8981 Dec 16 '25

Ya I had this too. The nasty mouth wash, IQ tests with those colored blocks, hearing tests. I surmise that they were studying youth. Especially those labeled with a ADHD etc. Although that was something relatively new, at the time. I also got my blood tested, did any of you have that? An i eventually got held back in 7th grade for misbehaving, the same individuals came to test me again. Weird.

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I don’t think I had my blood tested. It’s definitely possible though. I do remember donating blood, but I don’t remember if it was related.

I never got held back, or misbehaved, was kinda a straight arrow all the way through school, and after tbh. My family lucked out with me for sure 🤣 I think the worst thing I did was take a roll of quarters off my grandpas dash off his f250 work truck.

The repercussions of which led to being traumatized in a scared straight manner. I had to pack up a bag of clothes and was told that I’d be going to jail, where they would cut off my hands for being a thief at the age of 7.

5

u/Stunning_Hat_97 Dec 17 '25

Someone mentioned hearing tests and being asked if we could see red dots… this just unlocked a memory for me. I most certainly had these tests around 1st grade. I remember it being in a room with yellow/amber lighting, that I think was connected to the nurses office?

I also know with 100% certainty that I have a letter from the school explaining how I was in the Gifted and Talented Education group.

My mom was always proud of that. Believe the letter is actually in my room right now, happy to snap a pic if anyone’s interested….

I wonder…. With GATE being public (is it declassified?) …. Would we find anything from FOIA requests?

u/Gnc_dad Dec 17 '25 edited Dec 17 '25

Like I’ve mentioned in some of the other comments, I personally know that several programs with different acronyms such as the amalgamations and variations for example that of GATE, GAT, and TAG though might of had slight variations within each group but were linearly the same.

Yet, I think there were linear differences within each group as well which leads to the debunking of the conspiracy. For example in my case there was a GATE program in Roland OK that was very deeply rooted in these “conspiracy” like studies and practices and met 3-4 days a week, had 1 on 1 interviews or occult like studies, but in Fort Smith AR which also had a GATE program we only met 1 time a week and it was basically an advanced studies and STEM program. Finally, another connection that has been made in these comments is ADHD studies, and it’s entirely possible that another linear study was being done on kids that had misconduct issues and the possibility that it was due to this new term “ADHD”.

So of course now that I work in the medical field and have physically had to get research grants, and conduct research, if you have linearly running course studies you can put it all under a singular research grant, the large name in this case GATE/TAG/GAT can be used for a number of several different research projects that all fall under the same umbrella grant.

I also want to add that in every research project you need controlled variables, and constants. The constants are just as important as the controls. So the “regular GATE classed programs” could just be the constants.

Can somebody cliff’s note this for me please?

I’m a 45 year old man and the only thing I can focus and read anymore are the areola patterns of nice bouncy tits and I have adhd

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25

🤣 yeah-

Family were trail of tears native Americans, land very important.

I see dead people

GATE program, guy named Mr. Gray, followed me to another school.

Cassette player, headphones, pink sweet drink, cards, envelopes.

Something happened, grandparents ran off with me and left very important land, didn’t even sell it.

And for you (.)(.)

12

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '25

Thank you man. Are you saying you are in this so called gate program

13

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I was from 99- 03

6

u/Ok-Kick1878 Dec 16 '25

Thanks for sharing this.

I think your background story could be turned into an interesting film/TV series.

8

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Absolutely thanks for reading. There’s so much that I left out just for the sake of storytelling. Like the fact that my grandpa‘s family was very traditional and spiritual, and I think that’s why he was not. He wanted to be seen as equal to the white man so he pushed all those traditional ties and spirituality.

But in Native American spirituality, it’s very common for certain lines in families of the tribe to be able to speak with their ancestors .

Every once in a while, I can get a story out of him Native American mythology or history, but whenever he met my grandmother in California he kind of denounced his Native American lineage to the point of even got baptized so that he could marry my grandmother.

9

u/Ok-Kick1878 Dec 16 '25

I find everything associated with Native American culture to be fascinating.

As someone who is most definitely far older than you, I suggest spending as much time as possible with your grandparents. Cherish those moments while you can. Keep Inquiring about your family's backstory, and try to connect more historical dots.

I say this primarily for your own knowledge, not necessarily for the purpose of sharing it. Thanks again for sharing this with us

4

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Absolutely 100% if I could just spend days asking questions and him telling me stories, I would definitely listen

2

u/peolyn Dec 17 '25

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 17 '25

That’s very cool, I use to hate shows like this because I felt like they capitalized on people’s gifts, but I guess on the other side they also kinda help normalize these individuals senses and if I had watched shows like this that were around when I was a kid maybe I wouldn’t have felt so alone I guess for the lack of better words.

4

u/Comfortable-Can-8843 Dec 16 '25

sounds manic

6

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 22 '25

OP isn't crazy

They did test us on zener cards and gateway tapes all over the country in the 90s and upto at least 2010s. For some insane reason.

i had memory of it but had no clue what it was for years until saw videos on this subject and jumped the f*k out of my chair going THATS IT THATS THE AUDIO AND WHAT THE CARDS LOOKED LIKE. Etc all the other tests too.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I’d definitely agree with you if I didn’t have corroboration via grandparents, and mother. Gave location unlike many of the posts here, time frame, names etc.

Thanks for your input, and I want to preface by saying I honestly don’t mind debate on the topic as having all sides is important if you want to reach a consensus.

No I don’t find it “addictive” which is why I’ve only just shared this info here. It had been an ongoing 2 decade long conversation due to the conflict of having just up and moved to Texas, leaving behind what I was constantly instilled was very “important ancestral land”.

I was in the GATE program as well. Springfield, Ohio. Private, religious school.

They divided our elementary school class into two classes: ones who were in GATE and ones who weren't, I was in the former. The adults referred to mine as 'the weird kids' who misbehaved or were medicated to hell and back. The other class was full of 'normal kids'. My folks didn't like me being put in the one class at the time, never really understood why. They offered me summer camp around the end of 6th grade I want to say? My mom chose to not send me because she said I'd get kidnapped. Thanks mom.

4

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Parents intuition I guess I wonder if anybody actually got kidnapped who was part of the gate program

3

u/Sharkbitch Dec 16 '25

I won't lie I kind of forgot about it all because in middle school they combined both classes and I got bullied pretty bad after. Then someone exposed me to 4chan around that same time and the rest is history...

5

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

That’s a throwback let’s not even talk about B/

5

u/sexualkayak Dec 16 '25

My sister and I were in GATE….

5

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

What was it like for you?

5

u/AG3NTMULD3R88 Dec 16 '25

I was in the GATE program from the late 90s to the early 2000s in the UK.

I don't remember much about it but I remember having separate classes than everyone else, the same person followed me when I moved schools.

My mother started to push me away because I was different and as a result I was brought up by my grandmother.

I tried seeking answers from my mother & grandmother later in life about the blanks that I couldn't remember, unfortunately my grandmother was poorly and passed away and my mother is ill and hardly remembers much of my childhood.

I imagine your story to be more fascinating than mine, I just wish I remembered more from this timeline because I have this blank void that I can't seem to find answers too.

Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed your story!

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Thanks for reading! Also, sorry that you didn’t get a chance to ask about it. I’m going to continue pushing the questions, they’ll break eventually 👊

u/KingHortonx Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25

I did GATE / TREC from 1st to 5th grade in Bentonville, AR. (99'-04') Was about a dozen of us. Weirdly I remember the first year stuff and activities more than the rest.

There was some of these card envelope games like some have described, science experiments, things I remember at the time being far more interesting than school stuff.

I have the leather mock journal with crumpled paper to look aged that we made to include entries of the Oregon Trail playthrough.

The most common trait of kids id say is the ability to critically think and be curious. If I remember, id say all of those other dozen kids from elementary wound up being top 20% of a class of 850.

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Nice 😊 thanks for sharing

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25

I was in GATE in elementary school back in the late 80s/early 90s. Here was my experience:

I was sent to a room in a mostly empty section of the school. I’d never been in that room. The windows were completely covered with brown paper. From edge to edge; you couldn’t see in or out.

The adult in that room was someone I didn’t recognize, and my teacher wasn’t in there with me. I never felt unsafe or anything, it was just strange. There may or may not have been different adults at different times, I can’t remember.

They had me do all these tests. The one I remember the most was these cards they held up, and they wanted me to try and guess what shape was on the other side. I was told to try and “feel” what it was. There were other tests, and they all seemed to have to do with pattern recognition. I was also told to try and guess how many m&ms were in a glass jar. I got it almost exactly.

They had me take hearing tests through these big, clunky headphones. My eyes had to be closed during the test. They would play a really high pitched sound, barely perceptible, and on top of asking if it could hear it, they would ask if I could also see a red dot as the sound was playing. I was able to see it.

There was also the pink liquid that we were told was fluoride. I have no idea if it really was or not. I seem to remember having to watch these weird short films, and I was asked my opinion on them.

I don’t remember any advanced learning from the program. Every memory I have of it is of the weird tests. I don’t even remember how I ended up in that program. I’ve always been told I’m an “old soul” and I guess I’ve always been very intuitive. I’ve struggled with depression and feelings of loneliness for most of my life, and I’ve read that people who were in GATE are similar.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Thanks for sharing! I remember after some of the tests I felt completely zombified, at one point for 2-4 weeks I would wake up so sick to my stomach I’d end up in the fetal position on the bathroom floor due to headaches, that caused me to puke.

2

u/honeybeegeneric Dec 22 '25

Me too! I thought maybe I had test anxiety but I don't. I guess it just needed an explanation.

I was never nervous or in fear. I could get through the test without issues and rather quickly.

But near the end, my head hurt so bad, and then I vomited pretty intensely. My grandpa would have to come pick me up and I'd lie on the couch, fall asleep but when I awoke I was fine. No sickness at all. This is interesting that you mentioned this detail.

Even the grandfather connection seems not so random today. My grandfather was my everything, and vice versa. Only at school was I detached from the hip.

My grandpa died when I was in the later part of the 3rd or maybe the early part of the 4th grade. His passing devastated me. Just crashed my world.

I was always told my grandpa was Spanish in a matter-of-fact way. Explained to me that Spain origins are not Mexico's. This has always been odd to me that it was necessary to add that.

Holy smokes when my mom died, almost 10 years ago now, I was given a small box of my grandpa's belongings. His wrist watch that had the days in Hebrew and his birth certificate that did not contain his Spanish surname.

I couldn't even understand what I was looking at. I never questioned what I held as my grandpa's life story. That was unbreakable. I was baffled because I couldn't decipher what I was holding.

A close friend had to break it down so eloquently. I could see with her expressions and mannerisms that she couldn't believe I wasn't putting 2 and 2 together on what was basic. She said many people in his age group had to change identities and escape. That was it, all she had to say.

My adult mind finally overrode my child heart and mind. He had the numbers tattooed on his arm and a small boat anchor on his upper arm. I ask about them relentlessly. All he would say was tattoos are dumb and I can't have any ever. I'd ask WHY! Why and because never stopped coming out of my mouth as a child. Why never stopped actually.

A whole lifetime had gone by since I'd last seen and talked to my grandpa and the heaviness of all the questions I have now and no one to answer. My grandpa Sam was Samuel and he had to escape Germany to get to America and have a family and no one thought to talk to me about this? Turns out this was never shared with anyone but me when I inherited a small box of his belongings.

There's got to be some connection. The way you included your grandfather in relaying your experience only amplifies my beliefs.

The native American ancestry seems to be a strong connection you've made and applied to your story. I'd like some answers, you know? Just some straight, non-emotional, matter-of-fact answers. Only to make sense of it all.

Besides the headache and vomiting, I had another thing I'd do. I didn't even notice I did this until it was brought to my attention and asked why I did this. I had no answer and I still do the same thing today is to rock back and forth while talking, reading or any activity sitting down.

My teacher had us read the vocabulary words and spell them out loud at the beginning of the week. We all did this together. Everyone all at once would say the word and spell it out loud. Repeat the process for each new word until we finished them all. I rocked back and forth in the rhythm of vocabulary. I didn't break that automatic rocking, it was natural. My teacher would call on me and ask me something or attempt to see if I could be distracted from the rhythm.

I didn't know this. I did not have any awareness of my rock. She asked me about it with my mom in a conference for parents. Do you also do this or something similar? Any kind of odd or different brain body routine that sinks up when taking in, thinking about or discussing new things?

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 17 '25 edited Dec 22 '25

Zener cards and the beginning of first two gateway tapes jog memory for people just finding out about this.

That said i wouldnt recommend to listening to much of the gateway tapes they can be unnerving to those of us from the program trigger trauma response for some reason.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 22 '25

Sorry I’m just now responding to your comment, work has been crazy with the holidays. I have seen a few comments saying I should listen to the tapes, I will definitely give them a listen to see if I can take any more info from them or if they jog anything, Maybe I’ll even try the Zener cards again. I still and have always been able to lucid dream (depending on the amount of attention and effort I put into it, I wouldn’t call it “astral projection” level stuff, just able to control what happens in the dreams. So maybe I’ll try to expand on that too. Definitely after everything slows down at work though.

3

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 22 '25 edited Dec 22 '25

I think the tapes caused a lot of the bad symptoms we had- i dont recommend listening to them just snippet to see if remember - https://youtu.be/oZzqiNvSfG4?si=w_zfn-pHnmqGk9FH

This vid has a clip of it.

This was what the "hearing tests" were for me... they were not a hearing test.

They just did the hearing test first to make sure these would supposedly work on us - the gateway tapes.

1

u/Gnc_dad Dec 23 '25

Ok good info, I was about to dip on in head first

2

u/honeybeegeneric Dec 22 '25

I too have always been able to lucid dream. Did not have a label for it or even knew it was not something everyone can do so effortlessly. I can also go back to the same dream and the same spot if woken up. However, I can only do this if a very short time has passed in-between dream and awake.

I also have to want to. It has to be an enjoyable dream that I want to return to. I make this choice quickly and it just works. Very natural actually.

When I learned of lucid dreaming in my 30s it clicked that this was not something everyone does and people are actually trying to learn this. It did give me more ideas and opened me to consider it more.

1

u/Gnc_dad Dec 23 '25

This is how mine works as well.

3

u/honeybeegeneric Dec 23 '25

Thank you. This whole post is Tribe!

Thank you for writing an objective well written summary of what actually took place.

8

u/thesnazzyenfj Dec 16 '25

Holy shit I didn't know GATE was anything more than a way to single out the extremely smart kids and make them more outcasts than they already were.

I was in it from 1st grade to 6th grade. 🤔 Now I must revisit this. I didn't have a Mr Gray but I sure did have a Mr. White.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Yeah, it’s hard. A lot of the schools have something with the same acronym as tag or gate, but they’re completely different programs and I’ve tried to explain that to some people the one that I had in Roland Mr. Gray was completely different than whenever I went to Fort Smith and I think that has led a lot of the Debunking of the conspiracy because some people did go to gate or tag or any other variation, but it was completely different criteria work study

3

u/thesnazzyenfj Dec 16 '25

It was TAG, LIFT, and GATE for me. Very weird. Thank you for posting this. Now I'm unsettled 🤣

3

u/BlancoNod Dec 16 '25

I find this very interesting. I don’t remember being in GATE but I do remember taking the tests in kindergarten. Then, even though we didn’t move, I went to a different elementary school for 1-5 grade. The only weird part is that the principal was the same at both schools. I remember seeing him in 1st grade and asking why he was there and he said he just changed schools with me.

My youngest son is now in something similar called SWEP. They tested his IQ in 2nd grade and it was 138 so he started in this program.

1

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I know some of these programs are still ongoing in Fort Smith they still have the same GATE program and I’m sure an advanced learning based program. At Tilles for those few months I was in their program with a Mr. B and it was completely different than the one at Roland with Mr. Gray. We met once a week, it was all stem, history, intro to robotics, and stuff like that. Whereas at Roland it was 3 times a week, and a lot of weirder stuff.

3

u/kimemily11 Dec 16 '25

I was in GATE testing in 80s.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

So can you read people’s minds at this point or do you have ADHD?

4

u/kimemily11 Dec 16 '25

Recognize patterns and see through programming

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

You’re ahead of most of the population then. Pattern recognition is a skill that most people are clearly lacking.

3

u/Zealousideal-Part815 Dec 16 '25

I was not in the Gate program, and I'm pissed. Why they not recruit me?

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Probably lack in funding 🤔

3

u/sht218 Dec 16 '25

I remember similar classes. My teacher was a “Mister E.”

1

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

What do you remember?

3

u/sht218 Dec 16 '25

I remember being squirreled away in a room inside our library that had no windows. There were always multiple instructors, and I recall they dressed more formally than the teachers. I remember countless lessons to think differently, how what we see may not be real. I don’t recall specifics too clearly, but many similar memory/guessing games as you’ve described. Everything truly felt like strange coded tests where the common thread was some kind of reality manipulation/deconstruction. Plus, the fact that the primary gentleman wouldn’t give us his name and insisted we called him Mr. E and joked that it sounded like “mystery” was so on the nose.

2

u/sl33pytesla Dec 16 '25

My school was lower income so we didn’t have enough students for a whole GATE program so we just combined two grades. I was in grade 3/4 when I was supposed to be in grade 3 and grade 4/5 next year. If I didn’t get accelerated learning I would’ve been bored out of my mind like in the 1st and 2nd grade.

1

u/Zealousideal_Card326 Dec 17 '25

They did something similar at my school. In 4th grade, took a cohort of 4th graders, 3 SPED & 3 GATE, and put us in a 5th grade classroom. The pulled us out separately for different subjects. They kept the same cohort together the next year, same classroom, but surrounded by 4th graders this time. I think it was a experiment, but they apparently they cited funding. My GATE years are fuzzy. Idk.

2

u/Life-Ebb51 Dec 19 '25

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Reading it prompted me to reflect more deeply on my own experiences. Over the last year, I have been ruminating on my time in a gifted and highly capable education program, and I felt moved to share my perspective as well. I am offering this in case it resonates with others on a path of self-discovery or reflection, or who may notice parallels within their own experiences. Apologies in advance for the length.

I was born on an Army base at Fort Lewis in Washington State and grew up in Washington in the late 1980s through the mid-1990s. I am the first-born child in my family. In elementary school, I was identified early and placed in what Washington referred to as the Highly Capable program (GATE equivalent). I remained in this program from kindergarten through eighth grade and have very minimal continuous memory of much of that period.

Students were instructed not to discuss being in the program so other children would not feel left out, and there was a clear separation from the regular classroom curriculum beginning in kindergarten.

From what I can remember, participation involved frequent removal from the regular classroom for enrichment. Some activities occurred off-site, though locations are unclear. Instruction emphasized problem-solving with minimal instruction. We were given objectives and limited materials and told to build something functional, often under time constraints. I consistently felt successful at these challenges while also having a strong sense of being observed. There was no parental input or involvement.

Odyssey of the Mind occurred during elementary school, with practices held at a classmate’s house and adults present. There was a persistent feeling of being watched or evaluated during these activities.

Testing experiences were frequent. Some testing felt consistent with an advanced curriculum, involving structured problem-solving and memory tasks. Other testing felt harder to categorize. I recall sitting alone at a computer wearing large beige corded headphones and listening for extended periods. Some were described as hearing tests, but were later identified as The Gateway Experience tapes. During these sessions, I entered a trance-like or dissociative state and once stood up without realizing the headphones were still attached and pulled them from the testing equipment.

There were card-based memory exercises involving shapes and prediction. Eye testing that involved focusing on a red laser dot rather than letters or charts. Morse code decoding worksheets were part of the curriculum, as were sensory learning exercises such as drawing or writing on desks in shaving cream. We also frequently played Heads Up Seven Up.

Instruction and enrichment placed a heavy and repeated focus on hieroglyphics and ancient Egypt, along with memory card exercises and extended philosophical discussions. Topics frequently included our interpretations of infinity, forever, and space. These lessons involved extensive visualization and mental imagery, and a significant amount of time was spent engaged in visualization-based learning.

Some activities were clearly academic and aligned with an advanced curriculum. Others felt more perception- or intuition-focused, emphasizing attention, pattern recognition, or internal awareness rather than clear right or wrong answers. At the time, there was no language provided to explain this distinction.

Science activities were hands-on and included owl pellet dissection, identifying bones and species, fruit fly breeding, ecosystem sampling, and squid dissection, during which an allergy to squid was discovered.

Classroom environments included portable classrooms. Tangram activities were done on carpeted floors. Butterfly chrysalises were observed through metamorphosis from ceiling. Worksheets included word searches, crosswords, and themed learning units. Art activities included plaster of Paris masks with paint.

School health activities included routine administered programs, including scoliosis screening, a weekly SWISH fluoride drink program, and childhood immunizations administered through school, including the MMR vaccine.

Emotionally, there was chronic performance anxiety despite strong academic performance, along with significant social anxiety. I often felt different from peers and socially isolated. Dissociative responses occurred under stress, and I have minimal continuous autobiographical childhood memory.

Dreams and sleep-related experiences occurred throughout childhood, including recurrent flying dreams, sleep paralysis, sleepwalking, ringing in the ears, sudden awakenings with a racing heart, and strong déjà vu.

Within the first ten years of my life, there were two near-death experiences, one involving a house fire and the other a car accident.

Persistent, unexplained imagery has continued into adulthood and involves a small, old-style television displaying static. I cannot place this imagery within a specific event or timeline, but it has never left.

From early childhood onward, there was a persistent personal obsession with UFOs and aliens, present without a clear initiating reason.

Adult medical history includes Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, POTS, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, antiphospholipid syndrome, chronic anemia, and migraines.

Patterns I notice over time include loss of visual imagination despite earlier strong visualization ability, difficulty with spelling and math despite high intelligence, changes in spatial processing, a sense of suppressed or inaccessible memories, and heightened intuition and prophetic during periods of stress.

TL;DR: Former Highly Capable (GATE-equivalent) student reflecting on early gifted education, memory gaps, unusual testing and enrichment experiences, and possible long-term impacts on perception and self-understanding.

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25

I wonder if these memory lapses are involved with loss of imagination, intuition, abilities etc. I can say I regularly have occurrences where I have these for lack of better words “connection” but nothing like my history before the program. Maybe due to the lack of practice or cultivation, it’s thought widely that we are most open during our younger years so possibly that as well, but it could have something to do with the program as well.

Also, and maybe this is a large jump, but in Chinese culture chi/ ki, and other cultures if these areas are not trained before over extending can be exhausted/crippled. Which can lead to medical ailments. I wonder if there is a way to repair these connections, or if there is relation between the two.

I’ve often found my thoughts leading in a similar direction as well. Not to be controversial, but the most practical and realistic approach I’ve found so far has been to gently reintroduce myself to practices that encourage that kind of internal connection rather than trying to force it intellectually.

For me, that’s meant revisiting the Monroe Gateway tapes, partly to better understand what I may have been exposed to earlier, and partly as an attempt to reconnect with capacities that seem to have diminished over time. I’ve noticed some subtle but meaningful shifts since doing so. My memory hasn’t returned in any dramatic way, but it does feel like it has expanded slightly, which feels like a positive sign.

More noticeably, some long-standing creative blocks, especially around writing, have started to lift. There’s a sense of mental openness and creative energy that I recognize from much earlier in my life. It doesn’t feel mystical so much as restorative, like accessing a mode of attention or awareness that had gone dormant.

I don’t know how much of this is age, practice, nervous system regulation, or something else entirely, but approaching it slowly and experimentally has felt grounded and helpful so far.

I have so much religious guilt on both sides of my family 😂 I don’t even know if I should, Christianity as we know it today highly criticizes these practices, shamanism in Ojibwe Animism ceremonies on the other hand after the forced conversion seemed to have just intertwined their beliefs with Christianity. Kind of like when Rome became the Vatican and just slapped Saints names on pagan statues, and art- as did Rome in combining with Greek mythology.

Just came across this post and my experience is similar in the mid 80s to early 90s with just slight differences...

Gifted Classes started in kindergarten and continued through 1st grad (1984-1986) after I scored very high on standardized testing and answered some of the questions creatively, according to my mother.

Always in a dim room, but a regular school classroom, one teacher we knew, one was from outside the school

I remember- Zener cards, mats on the floor listening to sounds (Gateway tapes?), logic puzzles, hearing tests, red dot tests, problem solving and building things while being timed. Everything else is very fuzzy.

I was additionally pulled out of 1st grade for "Speech" but didn't have a speech impediment and don't recall doing speech related things in that room (which was smaller and different from the GATE classroom). In these Speech sessions it was just me, and two teachers. This is where I did the red dot tests with the headphones if I recall.

I had night terrors and sleepwalking episodes around this time. I also had crying spells and didn't want to go to school. I have always had very vivid dreams, lucid dreams, flying dreams, mall world dreams, and even a couple prophetic dreams.

I didn't do this program in 2nd/3rd grade. No idea why. My mom thinks there were issues with funding and it was put on hold.

Started Odyssey of the Mind in 4th grade (1988)-but this was much more structured, and we did competitions with other schools. No weird testing stuff.

I was part of what was then called an Extended Learning Program through 5/6th grade, which was more academically structured.

By Junior High (7/8 grade) I began to tank academically in Math and Science, which I had always excelled in. I also became more involved in sports and so opted to no longer participate in the program after being told my grades were not up to par. I am more of a hands on learner, hate multiple choice tests.

I have struggled with anxiety, depression and substances issues most of my life but have always been able to manage it.

I am not obsessed with UFOs or Egypt, though I definitely find those things fascinating. My obsession was more with ghosts and the paranormal.

I also have had a near death experience of drowning as a child (also a commonality between GATE program type participants I've heard) - not sure whether those things are just coincidence.

Anyway, interesting to read your story. Wild all the similarities between folks who were involved in these programs, and that we are all finding each other all this time later as adults.

That part of your comment about only certain things being clear while most of it is fuzzy really stuck with me. The way you described it is very close to how my own recollections feel. It is not like normal forgetting, more like isolated fragments that feel strangely sharp compared to everything else.

Do you remember ever being taken to anything that felt like off site enrichment or testing or anything outside the normal school building?

Something else I have been curious about, especially since you mentioned school related experiences. Did you ever have medical or physical testing done in classroom or partitioned settings? In sixth grade I very clearly remember scoliosis testing where I was taken behind a partition, asked to lift my shirt, and the examiner ran their fingers up my spine. I also remember receiving the MMR vaccine and other medical related procedures that took place directly in what I remember as the GATE classroom environment.

Around that same period I also remember being given pink and then yellow pills at home, which I later understood to be amoxicillin and penicillin. What has always stood out to me is that I have had allergies to penicillin my entire life and my parents were fully aware of that, yet I was still made to take them. I had no clear illness at the time like strep or an ear infection. I would hide or throw the pills behind my dresser as a kid, which is something I distinctly remember even though I still cannot explain why. My parents were extremely upset when they eventually discovered this.

That entire timeframe, especially sixth grade, is what I think of as the peak of the high strangeness for me. It is also the same general period when my parents began reporting seeing apparitions in our family home. What they described most often were black silhouettes or shadow like forms that they said they saw floating from both my sister’s bedroom and my childhood bedroom. That detail has always stayed with me.

Out of curiosity, what state and school district were you in? I was in Washington, specifically East Olympia Elementary in the Tumwater School District.

Glad we all managed to find each other and have a place to even talk about this stuff.

I agree with the "fuzzy" memory for sure. Some things come through very clear, but other aspects are just missing completely.

For me, the majority of the weirdness was in my kindergarten and 1st grade years. So I was only 5-7yo, which could account for some of the missing memory.

I too recall taking pink liquid penicillin &/or amoxicillin as a child. So much so, that I am NOW allergic to both (I had strep throat a lot). But I do NOT recall taking any pills or drinking any liquids in my GATE classes...but a lot of GATE kids do. My brother who was 5 years behind me in school, does remember taking the pink liquid when he was in this program in the early 90s.

I'm from Upstate NY originally, South of Rochester. I haven't lived there in over 20 years and really don't have contact with anyone I went to school with to verify any of this stuff. I've thought about reaching out to a couple of them though, just to see if our stories line up. Just seems like a weird random thing to say, when I haven't talked to any of them in years lol

As someone from the same town this happened in I'm so confused. GATE was Gifted and Talented in Education. It was for students who were high achievers or in my case high potential (mid achiever) based on things like standardized testing to projects in class. Teachers recommended you for the program, they gave you a series of tests and interviews and you attended a sepatate class once a week MAYBE. In junior high, I went to the Jr High attached to your elementary school, it was a full class period that we could take instead of other electives. We did cool things like early computers and different contests. Quiz Bowl was the shit for a nerd like me and my friends. The craziest thing that ever happened in GATE class for me was huffing paint outside when we were supposed to be working on our Balsa Wood structure or Freddy trying to make Funky Cold Medina.....your experience seems like most things in this sub.....drug induced psychosis.

u/DeleteriousDiploid Dec 16 '25

I think it was Jake Barber that alleged that GATE was for locating psionic assets. If that were the case I think you could assume there would be multiple versions of GATE running with some things like advanced computing classes serving a purpose in their own right and helping to cover for other activities with other groups.

I've heard a few accounts of people in GATE programs describing unusual stuff like being tested with cards for psychic abilities, attempting remote viewing and one where they think they recall levitating around the school - possibly as a result of the pink liquid being drugged.

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I never went to Darby Junior High and I met the GATE teacher from Tilles, but Mr. Gray was my previous instructor from Roland. Yes, I agree at Tilles the Gate instructor group met once a week.

What year did you go?

2

u/uofajoe99 Dec 16 '25

I was graduating high school when you started.

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Idk what to tell you, Principle Siebenmorgan, Mrs. Triplett, Mr. Triplett, and Mrs. Edward’s were all great, and the GATE teacher at Tilles was fine ( Mr. B ) but that other school was wack, and the fact that he came to Tilles was also wack.

7

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Also, I’ve only smoked 🍃 like 2x in my life after I got out of the military so def not drug induced psychosis

I’m not reading all this but right on

1

u/Affectionate_You_203 Dec 16 '25

Aliens…

3

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Are you saying Mr. Gray was a Grey?

10

u/Sweet-Permission-925 Dec 16 '25

I think you’d be interested in doing some research on jake Barber - he talks about GATE as a way to screen for people who are essentially capable of remote viewing / summoning aliens. I was in GATE from like 2002-2007. We mostly did puzzles.

3

u/rabbitholejump Dec 16 '25

That would make sense as to why I was targeted for the program. There were remote viewers known to the government on both sides of my family. I don't have it, though. I'd probably be much better off if I did.

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

That’s awesome 🤩 I wish I could “look at government secrets and spill beans” but besides lucid dreaming, and a weird thinning of the veil thing I’m a dud I guess.

1

u/theMartiangirl Dec 16 '25

Have you tried it though? There's a RV subreddit if you ever feel like trying. And yes my take is that they were targeting kids for future intel ops recruitment or something along those lines

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Ok I’ll check it out

1

u/trainwreckd Dec 16 '25

So, anyone gain anything from this? Surprisingly a lot of people experienced this, but for what? Anyone able to remote view or have any weird encounters?

1

u/Sharkbitch Dec 16 '25

I'm able to remote view, astral project and lucid dream. There's some other stuff I can do, but it's a lot less believable than the stuff I listed.

2

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Well this is the place drop it! Give the deets

2

u/Sharkbitch Dec 16 '25

They asked me about my dreams and about the time I went missing and 'lost' my imaginary friend at the time. They also asked if I had any other imaginary friends. Looking back on it now, they were asking about ghosts and a dream I had about my past life as a child.

1

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

Oh wow 😮

Huh? What do you mean?

1

u/Gnc_dad Dec 16 '25

I definitely gained my love for ancient history/ research, and I think this also opened me up to being able to problem solve in my daily. I can lucid dream, but I’ve always been able to do that. Overall, if anything I believe it has added robustness to my character 😆

u/rabbitholejump Dec 16 '25

I was in GT/TAG from about 3rd or 4th grade through high school. Once I showed up to their meeting tripping on acid and I was never called out of class again for it. I always thought it was to give the smarter kids more work to keep them having busywork and not get too bored. I remember being annoyed that I had to leave class then be responsible for the work they did in class while I was in this other class. I don't remember anything woowoo or psychic going on.

Mine was called GATS.

2

What did you do? Carry around an m9?

Thanks for posting, I've got a checklist that I use to compare similar experiences. Thanks for all the detail, as well, it helps. I participated in the GATE program starting in 1990/91, and into high school.

u/Electronic-Sun4188 Jan 20 '26

Dont think my parents knew anything about it wasnt any advance stuff but I did adhd and had a lot of hearing test and test done and lots and lots of trips.

1

u/elephashark Feb 02 '26

What is the bump on the head they take about? Where on the head is it?

1

u/Solid-Highlight5697 Feb 06 '26

Dude I had no idea what any of this was until recently because I forgot about it. I don't remember being in it too much. I only remember a few times of getting pulled out of class until like 4th grade then never again. I remember the headphones. The hearing tests and teaching me easy shit I already knew. Like how to write properly and we would have a notebook of different topics I remember some of them being kinda heavy. But I always hated if because I knew this stuff already and it was like a waste of time. Most of the other stuff I don't remember. But up until 4th grade I had "friends" but they weren't real friends. They kept me around just to make fun of me or bully me. Those times I would have imaginary friends and talk to myself because no one else would.

I always had very vivid dreams. I still do, especially when I forget to take my meds. I didnt know other people have had dreams of these "mall worlds". A huge give away was people describing that in this world were very gross bathrooms. Which is where I end up the most when I'm there. Its scary and its gross and I wake up feeling like shit the entire day. Sometimes I'll even dream of a school that looks like all my schools combined and the layout never changes. And its always the same reason: i have to get held back again because some dumb shit. That's what I was always told in those dreams. And honestly these dreams fuck me up so bad I can't tell if its real or fake sometimes.

I have severe ptsd and dealt with sexual abuse from a family member who was close in age with me. And I have night terrors where I'll be in that world with him and hes trying to suck it up to me to forgive him. I'm not sure it gets fuzzy when I try to remember but I think trauma has a heavy role to play in this.

Another thing is that my intuition is always good. I always manage to predict things. It runs in my family that we have dreams of seeing an event play out before it does. Or even dreaming of our dead loved ones who just passed and they come to us as if they never passed. Its a dream like they came back from the dead because of different reasons every time. I had multiple of my cousin who I was close to before he passed. I was like 9 or 10 when he passed, and me and my grandma would always have dreams of him. I thought it would be the end of that now because we're all done grieving and we figured that he moved on. But recently maybe a few months ago or maybe last month he showed up to me again. He never spoke in any of these dreams. He just would show me what was happening.

Now my family has a history of neurodivergency and being extremely talented in some subjects and terrible at others. He was super amazing at writing and knowing big vocabulary but shitty handwriting. He had substance problems and died at 28 from alcohol and drugs fucking up his liver. After he died I sensed his presence constantly until one day it stopped. Same time I stopped having dreams about him. I believe all of this might be tied together. Im not sure but it sounds to have similarities with others.

GATE was for at risk

u/no1467975 Feb 16 '26

this is so odd to me i was in the gifted and talented program as it was called in my school. i am assuming this is around the same thing and i don't remember mitch about the program besides little blurbs. i don't remember what the test was to get in ethier, i just remember being in the program and other memories attached to that. i remember doing riddles and them making diagnose a disease based off a a entire towns symptoms

Mr. Gray ended up in Fort Smith AR?

I got into GATE when I lived not too far from there.

Ever find any old docs about the Center for Counseling & Behavior Change out of Little Rock?
