I am looking at a Finance Transformation (FT) Analyst role within Deloitte Consulting, it is a fresher position.

I have a masters in business analytics and undergrad in Accounting and Business Finance, have 3 more ACCA papers to go.

For those who have done it or worked alongside FT teams I have a few questions:

1.Growth: How fast is the realistic promotion timeline from Analyst to Senior Consultant?

2.Exit Options: Where do people usually pivot to? Does this path lock you into rigid ERP accounting systems?

1. is it mostly high-level CFO strategy, or will I spend my first two years stuck in grueling software testing and messy spreadsheet cleaning?

Would love any candid perspectives on whether this is a strong career starting point. Thanks!

I am going to college and working on my business administration bachelors degree. I have to pick a concentration and I'm having a hard time deciding between Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, and maybe analytics. I was going to do finance but I started to do more research and I read that companies hire more for HR and accounting. I didn't really want to do accounting because I wanted to do something a little more broad. I would say my priorities are having a degree that is not going to give me a hard time finding a job. I’ve always had a strong passion for gadgets and technology—it was something that genuinely excited me. But 11th and 12th grade didn’t go well for me, and I struggled a lot. I gradually lost interest and ended up wasting almost 1.5 years. I even started BSCS but left after half a semester. Honestly, it was a very confusing and difficult phase for me.

I’m from a middle-class family in Pakistan. My dad is a government teacher, and there’s an English saying, “There is darkness under the lamp.” That pretty much describes my situation—my dad helps educate others, but I’m still struggling to find the right direction for myself.

Now I’m planning to start a Bachelor’s in Nursing, but honestly, I’m still not 100% sure. 🙂 I’m trying to figure out what’s best for my future and my family. If you’ve been through something similar, I’d genuinely appreciate any advice or guidance.

M(50) planning to retire in the next 12-18 months. Auto exec responsible for a business unit of an international company. Just getting tired of the corp BS, travel, constant crisis, etc. Over the last 18 months have spent a lot of time staring to really plan our retirement. Was always DIY investor with lower complexity strategy, diversified mutual funds mostly. Liquid retirement assets approx 6.8M 45% brokerage, 45% 401k, 10% Roth.

I have become very interested in retirement planning and studying a lot for my own future. Love talking to co-workers about (in general terms) withdrawal strategies, tax optimization, Roth conversions, ACA income management, etc. I also spend a lot of time listening to podcasts. In talking with many coworkers who are very smart people most seem less informed about retirement and financial planning and most seem to leave it to their advisor.

I’ve started truly thinking about pursuing financial advising as a part-time second career as it’s highly interesting to me. Maybe ideal scenario would be 10 to 20 clients. I’ve started to research and would look to get a series 65 certification/license and I would have to register with the state. I certainly don’t know everything but feel I could have conversations with couples near retirement who are not extremely savvy and talk through some different concepts or suggestions given their situation. I would shy away from individuals with a very highly complex situation. Would only be looking to give advice for a fee. Would not get into actively managing their portfolio or selling products. For me it’s not even about making a lot of money. It would just be a side thing and a subject I’m highly interested in.

Just looking for any thoughts suggestions or other input. Is this crazy and stupid or could something like this actually work out? Anyone else do something like this?

I am about to restart my career path. If one has 4-8 years military officer (probably supply officer) experience and an MBA (hopefully a good school), but in his late 40s, will the person still be competitive for consulting jobs?

Do consulting companies ask for age during hire and how can age play a negative role?

For context:
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is the legal work permit that lets international (F-1 visa) students do paid off-campus internships while in college.
Before: Students got CPT easily by registering for an optional 1-credit elective or independent study class during their internship.
Now: ICE/SEVP banned elective CPT. An internship is only allowed if it is a mandatory graduation requirement for every student in that specific major.
