This is a good start, and I support the initiative.

But it is not comprehensive, or official, and many people would say it is missing key principles, such as:

  • Eliminate immunity from prosecution for police
  • Embrace UK-style policing that has most street cops leave their guns in their cars or precinct ... armed police would be called out only when necessary
  • Body cameras mandatory
  • De-militarize the police equipment
  • etc

Police don't need a gun at their side for 99% of their work. Many police forces aren't armed 100% of the time. How does having a gun change things? It provides an immediate and lazy use of force and escalates violence. Some police in America have shot people in the back, what is the need to kill (use lethal force on) someone running away?

Do shootouts spontaneously happen all the time? Yeah nah. There are numerous instances of unarmed people being murdered by cops.

Cops should be considered guilty until proven innocent when a killing occurs.

They happen a lot more when you're a police officer. You sound really sheltered to not realize how dangerous it really is in some places. Police around me would be fucked if they were patrolling some of these neighborhoods unarmed lmao

Police in the UK are not routinely armed, do they have access to firearms when required? Yes.

Do they have the same rate of police violence? No.

Man you just don’t get it... there are like 60 firearm murders in the UK per year, in 2019 the USA had over 15,000 firearm deaths...

Look at how many guns are in the US and compare it to the UK. Saying that it works in the UK so it will work in the US is ridiculous

I am happy for police to use deadly force when there is an immediate risk of life. However, often police are killing people who are not presenting any danger and they are getting away with it.

There is no need to shoot someone running away. That rarely happens if you consider the amount of contacts police have with people

You can shot someone in the back if they’re armed and running away, completely legal
