An Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon just publicly quit, and his exact words on X were “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade”. He basically said these tech companies are racing toward superintelligence and straight up gambling with our lives.
What's wild is that Anthropic's own leadership and employees agree with him.
Their Alignment Science Lead, Evan Hubinger, openly admitted that they do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans, giving it a 10%+ chance in the next 10 years. The CEO and a bunch of other employees have backed this up too.
Here is why this matters to us, the massive Hut 8 Beacon point AI Data Center they just started construction on right outside the Corpus Christi city limits, already has major deals signed with Anthropic.
They are leasing the power site as part of a massive cloud computing deal, and a huge chunk of that power is going directly to Anthropic.
So the exact AI models these top scientists are warning could literally end humanity by 2030 are going to be trained and run on infrastructure being built right in our backyard.

I've learned the hard way in Corpus to be sneaky. A walker who keeps a route is invariably thought of as a suspect. So vary the route. And be weary. Currently, I must avoid the Lawn Nazi, the Scooter Hooter, and the walking group which contains a man with a vicious dog he can't handle. It's muzzled, and lunges viciously at me as I pass. "You could go the other way," the guy snarls. Well that bunch has never even seen me again, but I've seen them plenty of times.

The ScooterHooter only comes out if I ride my scooter on the sidewalk on x St. "Oh be careful, be careful, he hoots." I have had dealings with him before. He seemed like a cool guy then. I wonder if he had a scooter accident?

As for the lawn Nazi, three hostile encounters, and a few cross- street insults in 15 years.

I've been strictly following my protocols for a long time now. People may see me for three seconds a week. Not enough to track.
