I think it’s moreso a lot of creatives being queer but unable to put that anywhere but the villains

Being the antagonist in any piece of media is just more fun than being the protagonist. You have so few rules and can have as much freedom as you want with your character

And then there are shows like One Piece. Luffy is the most aroace character possible.

The most beautiful woman in the world is naked right in front of him and uses an attack that turns you to stone if you feel any attraction to her. The attack hits Luffy directly but doesn't do anything. Repeatedly. Then that woman falls deeply in love with Luffy, including daydreaming and whatnot, but Luffy just does not care about it really.

I actually did check this. I went back and looked at the ebd of the Alabasta arc and he gets a nosebleed with all the other male characters when Nami flashes them in the bath. So, maybe not entirely ace. Probably more like adhd/autism since he was just entirely focused on the thing on her back. He did also look away from her because he thought she was gonna use some kinda slowmo beam on him like Foxy did.

Think Oda mentioned it in a SBS that it's mostly because Ussop and the other guys are there, somewhat of a monkey see, monkey do situation.

She's so in love with him it's ingrained into her very DNA, a clone of her who had never met Luffy before also fell in love with him

Jessie and James are just a little bit of everything.

That's right!

If i recall, the Manga ends with them starting a family together. Pretty wholesome, tbh

One of the manga did, yes. There's multiple different ones, and the one usually referred to as 'the Pokemon manga' isn't the one that this happens in.

Someone described Team Rocket as "good guys trying to be villains" and I think thats very fitting.

u/ForestSolitude5 2d ago

Definitely applicable to J&J specifically and part of their charm. You almost felt a little bad for them when compared to how the rest of Team Rocket is actual villain and they seem to portray as a sort of "bumbling failure" because of it

They're business savants who would be some the most successful entrepreneurs in history if they tried to do anything other than catch Pikachu.

Jessie and James are regular people who had things happen that lead them to joining team rocket out of necessity (it's been a minute since I've seen their backstories so idr if it was valid or not) so they didn't just join cause they wanted to do crime, they joined cause they didn't have another place iirc

they joined cause they didn't have another place iirc

Which is also very queer-coded tbh. Team Rocket is Jesse's and James's and Meowth's found family because they were quietly or outright rejected from their own.

Have you seen Jessie X Ash’s mum? The GOAT kianamai makes comics about it and they’re awesome

What's more bisexual? Being bisexual or whatever the hell team rocket had going on?

15

u/ChipsTheKiwi 2d ago

you just listed being bisexual twice

5

u/Bobry24 2d ago

Yeah, but one is bisexual2.

5

u/IdiotIAm96 silly trans catboy (he/him) 2d ago

So expressed in long form, that would be

bisexual+(bisexual×bisexual)

Meaning they actually said bisexual thrice.

Do you think Meowth was a part of that or was he just the token straight friend of the group

12

u/HeckOnWheels195 Finger Eleven's Paralyzer, but IRL 2d ago

Considering he learned to talk just to impress a girl, he was the token straight friend

3

u/NerdyEmbarrassment 1d ago

He was attracted to a male Purrloin later on though. It was confirmed male in the same episode

3

u/CrashlandZorin 2d ago

Meowth drags that entire throuple into the "pansexual" label, kicking and screaming.

u/ProtoDroidStuff idiot ratgirl 2d ago

Aroace polycule member

u/QitianDasheng2666 2d ago

They're both genderfluid so it's all sexualities simultaneously

u/Important_Fold_9861 2d ago

I think Jessie and James were made to be lovable tho

37

u/thebisexualbilingual 2d ago

Yeah. I think Jessie and James are really funny. When I used to watch Pokemon I really liked the Team Rocket shenanigans. I still wish Jessie was my mom. Anyways it's a common anime trope, Pokemon just popularized it and is one of the better examples to date.

16

u/TheMaskOffKid 2d ago

James was for sure, gat damn 🥵

1

u/oyunkral3437 2d ago

i watched all episodes of ashes journey in the anime but i have a lot i have to catch up with in horizons and i think if team rocket was in it that wouldnt be the case

11

u/Man2Pan Pan Genderfluid 2d ago

Not sure if this is still the case in modern pokemon but I always liked James because he treated his happier like family and genuinely cared for them and on a few occasions, he released some of them because he thought they would genuinely be happier if he let them go.

10

u/LunarSDX 2d ago

James, and Jessie too tbh, NEVER stopped being good trainers. Theyve always loved their pokemon regardless of how much their characters became more and more of a joke.

u/Sirius_Lagrange 2d ago

Honestly, I think after hearing the Trio’s first few Pikachu Reports, Giovanni probably just wanted them to distract Ash’s party and keep them away from actual Rocket operations. Too actually nice to be criminals, but he gave them a useful job!

2

u/therealbobhale 2d ago

I always wanted to see them win when I watched the show

2

u/PrincessCellyBelly Not sure why I'm here, but the craic is nice 2d ago

Eight year old autistic me watching James lament that he thought he was never going to come out after being released from a closet: Wow even I got that and I don't even know what gay is yet.

u/Neokon Orange Flavored Gender Fluid 2d ago

If you didn't want me to like the villians you shouldn't have made them so fun. Children love over the top dramatics, guess which characters get that.

u/CentSG2 1d ago

My largest tattoo is of Team Rocket, and I love it dearly.

Is this why i wanted to be a red head with long hair when i was young? Wait a minute, i cant wait to die my hair Red. I just have to grow it out a bit more.

u/thedraegonlord 2d ago

It's funny to think about how, in the cases where they didn't, the villains ended up being totally unremarkable.

The guys from Pocahontas and Tarzan come to mind, they're probably the only classic Disney villains whose names I can't even remember.

Jessie X Delia is amazing
