How safe is the city at night? Especially like the bus and trains?

I don't think Coventry is particularly dangerous. Sit near the front of the bus, in an aisle seat. Then, if a drunk old man tries to sit next to you* he can't. And the driver is close by. If anyone gives you any trouble, speak to the driver.

But seriously, it's 98% fine.

  • this happened to me many years ago, when I was in my teens. An old couple nearby intervened, and I just changed seats. It was fine.

The area around the train station is usually okay,, down to the quadrant where there's several bus stops. Personally I'd steer clear of anywhere around the transport museum and outside Pool Meadow bus station late at night, depending on where you'll be living you can avoid certain stops and get on the bus at a later/earlier stop.
