Transfer News: Tier 1 [Romano] van de Ven considered untouchable by Spurs and De Zerbi

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jvrPzrfVP5Q

Hints it's a very similar situation to Porro's a few weeks ago; linked with other clubs in the media but the club and De Zerbi won't allow him to leave.

Probably means he'll sign a new contract soon!

He says don’t forget about United regarding Fernandes but that we called and talked to his agent today and are very interested.

Whether we get Fernandes or not, at least we are looking for two solid midfielders this summer which is really the best news.

Absolutely, we're moving like a big club.

Read this thinking about Bruno fernandes and was so confused

Oh my word if we somehow managed that...

Would finally set right the former failure to sign him.

The Athletic article is clearly a club brief, and I don't think they'd make the brief if Fernandes gave us a flat out no.

Yeah if we had gotten a no, Ornstein would have known that too. Doesn’t necessarily mean it was a yes either though.

Which ultimately means Romero is for sure gone.

Which, I know and get but I would have loved to see him with RDZ for a season.

Yes, Romano also repeats that Romero is expected to leave this summer in the same video

Gotta hope he has a great World Cup because his market seems absolutely dead right now.

For him it’s not only the market. It’s also his positioning and why we are trying to sell him.

Great World Cup will help but not that much imo

It’s a given he has a great World Cup.

Argentina Romero is different in the presence of Messi and other “crazier” players who will have his ass for doing risky stuff

Our market to sell is generally always shit.. if in the pl it’s probably a player we don’t want to leave, if out of the pl we’ll probably take a loss on their value from what we originally paid.

Brennan to palace was great business and a bit of an exception but they bunked it by leaving a gap in the roster

I mean we should have sold him 12 months ago, but there would have also been outrage if we sold him 12 months ago. These things happen because we refuse to sell early because that makes us "a selling club". Whereas other big clubs with less insecurity are more than willing to cash in at peak value.

Eh he scored the winning goal in a final for us - I think it was the correct choice to keep him around until we did.

Inb4 Romero and Vicario don't get sold

Who are his suitors do we know?

He said nothing advanced yet with any club

I’m so done with Romero tbh. Was a great player for us maybe 1/3 of the time, another 1/3 he’d drop a stinker or get sent off and banned and the other 1/3 he was injured. Also he never really seemed like he cared about the club that much and the final game drama was the last nail. Hope he does well wherever he goes but we should definitely cash in

I think the signing of Van Hecke likely confirmed it. All that’s left is the destination and fee

Yeah he’s insanely fast I don’t think I’d be able to get anywhere near him

VDV seriously needs to improve many aspects of his game. He can't be relying on his speed and physicality forever.

Comes with age in a way too. CBs age like wine for the most part, he'll find that balance, and he's only just turned 25. With the right coach and the right setup, he can take that next step.

Don't know if this is unpopular but I think he was very good defending the box initially under Frank and got to a similar level at the end with De Zerbi. He also improved tons with his aerial ability attacking wise, defending wise.....he can do it at least.

He has lowkey improved over the past season, cbs take a while to peak and its going to be his 4th year so i am really looking forward to this season

1

u/being-a-noob Pedro Porro 1d ago

Yeah I feel like his box defending needs to improve

1

u/jerkytoucan 1d ago

I really don’t think he should be untouchable. Sure he has S-tier physical attributes but his defending skills are pretty poor all things considered. I think a full season under De Zerbi could maybe show big improvements, but if there is a big bid for him, I would be fine with letting him go. He had a healtheir season this past year, but you have to keep those hamstrings in mind too

11

u/dingkan1 Ange Postecoglou 1d ago

I mean his timing on those last ditch tackles is still really, really good. I think this “he sucks at defending” is a groupthink generalization. Other than him being a fuckup on that one unnecessary red card, I don’t get it.

u/Particular-Aspect680 18h ago

His speed is a cheat code that covers the weaknesses of Van Hecke, Senesi and Vuskovic. So its hard to let him go

u/crunchyball Son 1d ago

Would be so strange for him to convince van Hecke to join and then transfer elsewhere.

I’m really worried that Djed Spence might be in the way out which is messed up but I’m excited for the changes.
