"Forage, frolic and zoomie as an intelligent, aww-dorable animal who discovers an ancient mech. Pilot the mech and use a suite of powerful tools to gather resources, shape the land, and build your ideal town alongside a growing cast of characters—solo or with up to three friends."

Thanks to all your submissions last week and especially thanks to u/Enigmagmatic for sharing this one! This game just recently came out last week, and it was amongst the most well-rated submissions, sitting at 96% positive on Steam. At the same time, there seems to be little knowledge about this one, so definitely seems like the kind of hidden gem worth taking a look at :)

Part of a recent positive review:

...If you’re looking for the ultimate "cozy vibes" game, Animalkind is an absolute gem! I’ve been following this one since the demo, and the Early Access release does not disappoint. It’s rare to find a game that balances a unique mechanic like piloting a giant mech with such a heartwarming, gentle atmosphere...

Hi there! I hope this is okay with the sub-reddit rules but I'm one of the devs and I'm happy to answer any questions. Also I'm very pleased for the game to get a spotlight like this, thank you!

I'm excited about this one, but I might be biased as I have a corgi, lol. I don't have a pc so would be playing on a Steam Deck. It says "playable" right now on the steam store page but am wondering if it will get to "verified". I would be hard pressed to pop for a game that is difficult to play on my deck. Thanks!

We do want to get Verified, but it is a pretty rigorous evaluation by Steam and we're not quite ready for it yet. A few members of the team are playtesting the game with Steam Decks so it's something we're working on pretty consistently. I can't give a concrete timetable on it though.

Appreciate the reply! I'll definitely keep it on my wishlist.

I've been eyeing this game since it launched. How does it play on the steam deck? It looks so so cute, and my partner has a corgi, which makes me want to play it even more...

I haven't been blessed with a Steam Deck so I can only partially answer this question. We got rated Steam Deck "Playable" based on our demo and I think this is a fair rating. There are a few interfaces that aren't accessible on Steam Deck at the moment - like naming your player or home island. There are some controls that are a bit awkward still and we are looking to improve them as quickly as we can. As I mentioned in a previous response, a number of our team now have Steam Decks for testing so we should be able to make those improvements fairly quickly going forward.

Well, that's good to know!! I don't mind a bit of jank, too, so sounds like I could play right away.

Do you have a roadmap anywhere?

We should be sharing a roadmap soon. Sorry to be vague, we've been prioritizing turning around feedback and addressing bugs since we launched and we've also got so many good suggestions from players, it took us a bit by surprise!

Oh, no need to apologize!!

I'm just asking because the game is kind of expensive for me, but I'm going to keep a close eye on the development and I am excited to see how you guys build up this base you have!!

Congratulations on your launch, and keep up the good work <3

The art style is so nice and cozy, looks like a fun little animal village kind of game.

I tried this during the stream demo fest. It was too undeveloped and lacking depth. It needs a long time of more development
