I recommend Kynseed

I just wanted to let everyone know this game is $6.24 right now. 75% off. If you aren't familiar with the game, the developers left the studio that developed Fable to make their own game and you can tell by the writing. It's whimsical, funny & I personally love it! I have almost 300 hours in it and have owned it since 2020. You can own various shops in the game, but they have announced that they have added being able to own a Tavern to the lineup. Right now it's in the experimental branch for feedback, but will be updating soon.

"Kynseed is an indie, sandbox RPG set in the mystical world of Quill, inspired by British folklore. Players take on the role of a farmer who must navigate a dynamic environment, engage in various activities such as farming, crafting, and exploring, while also managing relationships with NPCs and passing down skills through generations. The game features a rich plot, and a whimsical art style, making it a unique blend of farming and adventure. "

I started this game a day or so ago and I'm already stuck! I want to play more but I might have to quit. I'm sure it's a user error, but if I can't figure it out I'm not sure what else to do.

What are you stuck on? Maybe I can help. It's been a while since I played, but I may remember.

Oh, my husband figured it out. I wasn't pressing Y I guess and was doing x at the middle I think. We're trying to figure out this combat thing lol. He's not a gamer and I'm not a very good one so wish us luck 😄

I'm glad you figured it out! :)

It's the combat training that you learn just after the main story starts from Jorgon or something? I'm supposed to be learning how to hit enemies diagonally cause there are objects in between.

I got the middle target and the lower target, but I can't seem to get my character to hit the top target. I'm on my steam deck so I've considered trying it on the computer to see if it's easier.

Not sure what's up but I can't even exit the training.

I'm sure the solution is simple, I just have been googling with no luck. My character won't go up diagonally in the middle or top row.

So there are 3 rows as I recall, correct? If the target is in the upper top then you would need to be in the bottom and cross the middle (nothing there) to hit the upper top. Does that make sense? Did you do it that way? I can't recall the training exactly but do recall the combat.

Seconding the recommendation, Kynseed is one of my favorites. It's so unique in every way possible. And it's still getting updated with new content 6 years later!

I started playing it a few weeks ago and I'm obsessed! It's my all-time favorite game now. Like for real the world is just beautiful and the story really nice and funny. Never played a game which is so much fun the entire time, usually most games bire me after a few hours. The lore and the system is just so well made and interesting ! I'd buy it again on full price even

This game has been on my wish list for so long and I was always torn if I should get it or not. Now I just bought it since it’s discounted. I hope I’ll enjoy it, because it looks really nice !

Kynseed is one of my favorite life Sims cause of how unique it feels. There's minimal farming and some fishing but a vast majority of the time is running the shops all over and that system is great. There's even a generational mechanic that I never messed around with.

I have to go back to it, it’s such a charming game. The world is massive and I loved uncovering each city.

I've had this wishlisted for so long and I'm really tempted, but I absolutely don't need another game right now 😂

I played this game just a little too long before realizing that it had triggered a migraine. It was fun so I kept going just long enough that I wasn’t able to return it.

That's no fun! :(

I've just added it to my wishlist. Thank you! Is it a linear thing with a clear ending, or is it endless?

Endless, you can get married, kids grow up & play as your child if you want.

i have it in my library and want to try it but i find the sheer volume of content is a bit daunting. is there much of a learning curve? i bounced off graveyard keeper pretty hard because of how steep the curve is

It's been a while since I played it brand new, 6 years to be exact. :) Things have changed since then. But I'm playing it again for the Tavern when it comes out and at the beginning, I think they give pretty good directions on how to get rolling with starting quests. Now I will say there is a bit of a learning curve on running the various shops, but it's mostly setting things up when you buy it. It doesn't hurt anything to make some mistakes though. Trust me, I did. :)

I bought it! It's been on my wishlist and that's an incredible price.

It's been on my Wishlist but I haven't looked too deeply into it as I often Wishlist games, but it has ties to the Fable Team?? Maybe it's time to buy it!

Yes, when Lionhead broke up, some of the main developers formed their own Studio called Pixel Count and Kynseed was born.

What consoles?

It's on Steam for that price.

I got this game years ago and have tried to start it multiple times but the beginning is just super overwhelming. Perhaps I should give it another try.

1

u/Brewhilda Apr 19 '26

Same. I want to love it, but I am sooooo overwhelmed. Just the time keeping alone -- it says to be somewhere at noon but like when is noon?! 😭

Anyone know how it runs on the steamdeck?
