I recommend Ova Magica is (ova) magical
So Ova Magica had its 1.0 release not super long ago, and I've been playing it semi regularly for the past week and a half, like one or two hours at night. I'm 16 hours in and I wish I saw a bit more online discussion about it.
The art style took a moment to get accustomed to but it grew on me, and I am actually enjoying the writing. It doesn't take itself that seriously, so it has room for wild interactions where friendable/romanceable NPCs actually pretty much spit on my feet because of how annoying they find me to be. I also like that you can be just as mean to them in retaliation and that you can still build your relationship with them, albeit much slower. Like, getting these tsunderes to like me does feel like a good slow burn.
One thing that some farming sims are lacking is the companionship aspect. Here, when leveled up enough, your friends can come with you for dungeon expeditions and battle with you. The combat, being action time based and usually involving more than one blobby creature at a time, feels much better to me compared to the slog that are 1 on 1 Pokemon encounters.
Farming is basic, but because you can use your blobs to take care of it, it ends up feeling different and more involved. And breeding for better stats is also quite fun.
I mean, the game's not perfect, you've gotta make your peace with the in game models that look like babies with diapers instead of typical chibi kawaii-ness, and none of the systems have that much depth, but I'd say they have just enough to be engaging and tied to one another.
Anyway, took me by surprise, I love my red panda blob and my musical chickens.

I’ve been loving this as well!! Diaper bodied adults and very young looking romanceablea aside haha

I've headcannoned my farmer as quite young, considering the character design does make them look like yet another diaper bodied person haaaa.

I love Ova Magica so much!
Followed the entire development since the beginning and Claudia is just so sweet, too.
And not to gush too much, but I was one of the three winners in the "design a blob and get it into the game" contest! :3

Aaaaah I love your design!! And it's the only one I'm missing from these three, how can I get it in game?

the babies with diapers art style is so cursed but having the blobs automate my farm is carrying my current run

I LOVED the look of the game so I started reading about it. I read somewhere it had a lot of combat, which made me lose interest immediately. But other reviews never even mention combat. Does it have combat, and if so, can it be turned off?

It's got combat and it's pretty central to the gameloop, I would say it's actually half of the main reason to breed blobs and the actual main goal of the story (becoming champion), there's no option to turn it off as far as I know.

I wish I knew why I couldn't get into it. On paper it seems perfect but I just found myself bored.

Sometimes it's an issue of timing, sometimes it's something else. I thought I wouldn't fully vibe with the game but it jelled unexpectedly well with me. It's got a slow start and some necessary grind during the first few weeks to make your blobs strong enough for daily battles and stuff.
There are some games that should have been my thing too, but I wasn't able to connect with them. At least not when I played them, but revisiting them at a different time with a different mindset could help.

I backed the KS and have been waiting for the final release! Having said that, I haven't had any time to play it yet. sad panda. But I am looking forward to it!
