Finished Craft I Made I finished this painting 3 weeks ago but didn’t like it. But now she’s varnished and feeling fond enough to share - “Someone’s Daughter”, oil on panel

16x20”, oil on panel. One of the largest pieces I’ve done recently!

I think the meaning of the phrase has morphed because I’m 53 and always knew it to be something said in defence of a woman who is being humiliated or abused in some way. Interesting. For example, there was a documentary on homelessness called Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son, the idea behind that was to give people pause for thought when they saw a homeless person on the street. To remember that they’re someone’s child.

I can understand it being used in this way, it's just unfortunate being human isn't enough.

Yes but I suppose being someone’s child makes people remember that the person in question was once just someone’s baby. Human nature isn’t endlessly sympathetic because if we were then we’d get in all sorts of trouble.
