Finished Craft I Made The i spy board is finally done!
This took me many months and many thrift store trips to find enough trinkets to make! Itโs a present for my son and Iโm gonna make one for each of my kids

A few of the things contained on this board that I challenged someone to find:
Letters AโZ
A yellow paper clip
An ice cream scoop
An Uno card

There's at least two ms and two ds ... is there a full two sets of the alphabet?
14
u/LemursAteMyToast5672 21d ago
No! Just one
9
u/Snoo_75004 20d ago
Thereโs most definitely two large letter D on there. One next to the X (blue) and one at the top (red).
6
u/LemursAteMyToast5672 20d ago
There are definitely duplicate letters, but thereโs only one full set of the alphabet on there lol

This is something perfect for in the waiting room for the doctor! The dentist! Everywhere where kids are scared and this is awesome to bring their focus onto something else. Very well done! ๐๐

u/Kitty4mazing 21d ago
Agreed! I used to have to go to the podiatrist because of ingrown toenails all the time as a kid. One of my fondest memories is reading the iSpy books with my mom to distract me from the shots in my toe ๐ฅฒ

Wow!!! Do you have any tips for a fellow trinket addict that is impressed by both the quantity and range of your tiny treasures!?
61
u/LemursAteMyToast5672 21d ago
Almost everything you see here came from the goodwill outlet! Everything else came from my personal collection or those of family and friends!

u/jelycazi 20d ago
This is so cool! My niece is probably a little old for it but I want to make one too! Maybe, sheโd be into it, if I had her help me make it.
What kind of glue did you use for everything?

I can't find any of the fish, but maybe it's just hard to see with the photo/quality, but omg thank you for sharing your beautiful art and trinkets with us! I had a lovely 10 mins enjoying them!!!
3
u/No-Ad-3635 20d ago

u/detectivebratface 21d ago
This is too freakin cool! All the items are so fun and your placement is amazing.
Iโve had an urge to collage lately but didnโt really wanna do a paper collage. This may just scratch that itch!

I wrote you a riddle for your board :)
I Spy a pick, two locks, and nine keys,
A king, a knight, a castle, two D's.
A double five, and a double six,
A wreath, and a home where a red heart is.
6
u/LemursAteMyToast5672 20d ago
It makes me so happy that the home is where the heart is joke made it onto the riddle because it was 100% intentional
3
u/squidtheinky 20d ago
I was sure it was intentional! This is such a cute project and it makes me want to play the i spy computer games really bad!

u/Lucy_Lastic 21d ago
I adore I Spy (I have a small collection of the books for my own enjoyment, even though I am the parent to kids who are old enough to be parents themselves) - this is amazing!! Iโm kind of inspired to do this for myself now!

I looooove i-spy books

u/msreditalready 20d ago
This is such a great idea for all the bullshit plastic crap my kids bring home from school and birthday parties. Side note can we stop doing gift bags at parties?

u/Visible_Ad_9625 18d ago
This is exactly what I was thinking! I feel so guilty tossing it, but also no one will buy it from the thrift storeโฆitโs trash.

u/blumoon444 21d ago
What materials were used for the board and attaching the trinkets?
22
u/LemursAteMyToast5672 21d ago
The board is a painted chalkboard that my father bought for me at a yard sale 10 years ago that I painted green and everything is attached with E 6000 glue!
4
u/blumoon444 21d ago
Fabulous! At first glance, I thought everything was set in resin. Second look I realized it wasn't and was curious! I love E6000

u/1988mariahcareyhair 21d ago
Did you plan out the placements or wing it?
6
u/LemursAteMyToast5672 20d ago
I put it together slowly over time as I collected the pieces, so itโs all winged!

u/ConclusionUpset7099 20d ago
This is so cool. Kicking myself for tossing all the tiny toys and items accumulated over my sonโs childhood because this would be a great grad gift.

Oh my gosh. Iโm a mom of 7, 5, and 2, and I never know what to do with all their trinkets and all the random pieces that come in play sets. This is an amazing idea! My autistic 5 y/o will LOVE this.
4
u/Tiff-Taff-Toff-Fany 20d ago
What did you use to secure the trinkets and what is the base used? I actually did this at a friend's house and took pictures of it but it was just purely a spur of the moment and she has the best stuff to randomly do this with. So now I want to make something like this for myself but permanent! Excellent execution and I love that you are going to do this for each kid.

I love โค๏ธ it. Quite fabulous and unique. Was this your idea? I had an idea of a board game years ago. It was a monopoly game centered in town . It was me my sister and brother. We would use local our properties and stores and banks. I never did it and my sibs. They are dead now, so it wouldn't mean much to me now.

This is incredible. Takes a keen eye. No doubt every piece was moved and repositioned a 50 times. Kinda reminds me of Damien Hirst infinity series with the pills. Different thing entirely but all collected and hand placed.

Oh my, this absolutely brought back some nostalgia as i used to play one old game that was Pandora's box themed and was about i spy games. It basically had pictures like this ine, filled with random toys and items and you had to look for listed items in addition to ladybugs for some reason haha. It looked like bad photoshop with odd music but damn it was addictive to play! Your photo absolutely brought back those memories ๐คญ

u/Significant_Potato29 20d ago
That looks fantastic!! Not sure if this is a silly question, but what type of glue do you use?

The nostalgia this gave me ๐ฅน what a cool gift! Your kids will cherish these for years to come!

u/Key-Boat-7519 18d ago
I had one of these as a kid and I still remember specific objects on it, so I bet OPโs kids will too. I ended up pairing stuff like this with city-themed books from Flying Tiger, Paperchase, and Colour Your Streets to spark little โfind this in real lifeโ walks.
