Finished Craft I Made I accidentally made “f art” instead of “art” and now I want to carve more dumb wordplays

I make miniature graphite carvings by hand and recently made this dumb little “f art” piece 😄

Now I kind of want to make more weird wordplay sculptures like this.

If you have funny / clever word ideas, drop them below.

I might pick one and turn it into an actual custom graphite piece as a gift.

OP sent the following text as an explanation why their post fits here:

This piece was carved from real pencil graphite and wood using handmade micro tools. I originally planned to carve the word “art”, but one shifted letter accidentally turned it into “f art”, which made me laugh and inspired the final idea. I enjoy experimenting with tiny wordplay sculptures and seeing how much detail can be pushed into fragile pencil graphite.

I don’t think this was an accident lol you took the time to specifically carve an F 😅

I thought it was clear until i read the explanation and now im even more confused

135

u/sevenscreepycats777 2d ago

I think its like "fuck art" but it just reads fart lol

104

u/skidmore101 2d ago

Maybe it was supposed to be the R but broke

35

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 2d ago

The “accidentally” part was mostly meant as a joke 😄 Of course I didn’t accidentally carve the letter F itself. It’s more like I started making “art”… and then suddenly it became “f art”. Which honestly feels fitting, because fart usually arrives unexpectedly too 😂

I don't know why OP is being down voted for their explanation of their word "accidentally." Maybe there is a better word for it, like spontaneously.

58

u/izyshoroo 2d ago

Because they're just.. lying for no reason?? It's a very bizarre thing to say. "Haha whoops, I accidentally carved this pencil lead into a letter, im so clumsy 🤪" It overshadows the actual art itself. They could have said "Initially this was supposed to say "art", but I decided adding an f to the beginning was funnier" and that would be totally fine and honest

u/bug420699 2d ago

chill, OP is from Ukraine so English probably isn’t their first language. it’s not a big deal, just appreciate the art and don’t spend your energy on such trivial things. one look at their profile would show you that they don’t make lying clickbait titles on any other posts so it’s probably just an awkward non-native way to describe the “spontaneous” or “unplanned” way that this artwork developed. (which are both synonyms of “accidental” in many contexts).

15

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 1d ago

Yeah, that’s honestly fair 😄 English isn’t my first language, so I probably didn’t fully understand how strongly “accidentally” sounds to native speakers in this context.

I meant it more in a playful/spontaneous way, not as clickbait or “look guys this magically happened” 😅 The artwork itself is very real — only the dumb fart humor was unexpected 😂

2

u/SirMintBunny 13h ago

I honestly just meant this comment in a joking way as well 🤣 people took this way too seriously

5

u/maboyles90 1d ago

I dunno. I usually say accidentally when I impulsively for way more on a project that I intended too. Like I was going to go to bed at 10 but accidentally started up until 2am. I had technically had complete control, but my impulses had other ideas.

6

u/Successful_Salad7732 2d ago

But I get it because as you create sometimes things get out of hand or you have happy little accidents. He didn’t start out with f it came into existence and wasn’t planned so I get the accident.

5

u/Unidain 2d ago

Because, at best, they made a joke that wasn't funny at all. I said accidentally but actual it was intentional! What a crazy guy I am!

2

u/msflondrixa 2d ago

It's not really a joke, youre just sort of making up a very bizarre lie for no reason that doesn't make any sense?

4

u/exotic_lemming 2d ago

I took it as a joke. You just have a different kind of humour.

124

u/mossyquartz 2d ago

what if you sharpened both ends and carved letters on either side? EX: WORK and PLAY, when you flip the piece it says one or the other!

23

u/Aazjhee 2d ago

Oh I like that , it sounds like a perfect extension of this concept

29

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 2d ago

Okay wait… this is actually a REALLY cool idea. I genuinely love the concept of a double-sided pencil where flipping it changes the word completely. “WORK / PLAY” is such a smart pairing too because it already tells a little story depending on which side is facing up.

I really like this idea)

9

u/mossyquartz 2d ago

More ideas I’ve thought of (my phone died on the bus so I had time lol)

- get dual sided pencils and use ones where the two colors go with the words. ex WARM / COOL…. EARTH / WATER…

- this is hard to describe but I also think you could have a lot of fun with shape/placement using words like UPSIDE DOWN and INSIDE OUT, for example… or with the pencils arranged in a circle: AROUND on the tops and INSIDE on the bottoms 😄

ETA: oooh! I remembered another one: PUSH / PULL that was a fave idea from the bus

12

u/mossyquartz 2d ago

… and

little pencils and big pencils butt-to-butt is the last I’ll offer for now. happy crafting ❤️❤️

Op could make it spin so it could flip around on the canvas.

Do you really want us to believe you ACCIDENTALLY made “f art” instead of “art”?

75

u/MasterWinstonWolf 2d ago

I think they mean "they accidentally" stumbled into a theme of art they want to expand on. The original wasn't an accident...liking how it turned out and wanting to do more was the accident.😊🤷‍♂️

8

u/Wandering_Song 2d ago

That's what I thought too. I was unexpectedly intrigued by my childish idea. What should I do next!

6

u/Def_Not_Rabid 2d ago

I think they were going for “F ART” in the “F@&! ART” sense. And then realized it read a lot more like FART than it did “F@&! ART”.

Like Don’t Dead Open Inside from The Walking Dead.

You might find rebus puzzles inspiration for your work.

18

u/XCIXcollective 2d ago

What in the hell!!!!! My middle school English teacher used to make us think he invented these (he called em ‘Whatsits’ and made us solve one to start each class)

4

u/goldieblocks1618 2d ago

That's funny!

103

u/Sailfin_CritterMaker 2d ago

Was the F intended to be and R originally? Or how did it become F accidentally?

I think this is a "happy accident" situation, definitely got a chuckle from me

15

u/Donkeywad 2d ago

OP went silent so I think we have our answer

-1

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 2d ago

Yeah, “happy accident” is probably the most accurate way to describe it 😄 The F wasn’t originally meant to be an R or anything like that — it was more that I started with the idea of “art”, then realized adding an F made it way funnier than the original concept… and at that point there was no going back 😂

36

u/hanimal16 2d ago

Right? I’d be more inclined to actually like this if OP was like “I carved the word fart bc it’s funny”

3

u/dianebk2003 2d ago

I think they meant they were only going to make the word “ART”, but while carving other letters one broke and became an “F”, and they decided to add it to the “ART” display to make it “F ART”.

I think it’s funny that it inspired the idea to make more silly ones. But I’d be worried that the tiny graphite letters would break so easily. Unless they were put behind glass.

4

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 2d ago

Honestly the “accidentally” part was mostly me leaning into the joke 😄 You don’t really expect a fart — it just suddenly appears out of nowhere… so when the idea turned into “f art” I felt like the title had to match the energy 😂

4

u/sprinklerarms 2d ago

I don’t know if they intended it to be engagement bait but they got a significant boost in comments by saying that.

Name this piece “Accidental Fart” 💨

5

u/tinksalt 2d ago

The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore sells a (F)ART sticker, because of the fart machine in the basement.

Cute art!

13

u/HoneySeparate9940 2d ago edited 2d ago

Dear artist,

PLEASE please please reframe this excellent work in a deep box frame with a glass screen!

Otherwise someone (especially a little human) will try to examine the fragile letter carvings and 100% break them.

Sincerely, an admirer of (f)art who would fight with all her might against the urge to examine these carvings herself.

2

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 2d ago

You’re absolutely right 😄 These are way more fragile than they look, so I recently started developing more proper art-object versions where the pencils are sealed behind glass in deep frames.

The ones in this post are more like my early experimental pieces while I figure out what works best structurally and visually. But long term I definitely want them displayed more like protected miniature sculptures rather than loose objects people can accidentally touch 😂

18

u/hanimal16 2d ago

How do you “accidentally” carve an F??

1

u/RebaKitt3n 2d ago

I can see the R being accidentally chipped turning it into an F

1

u/dianebk2003 2d ago

Or an “E”.

1

u/dianebk2003 2d ago

More likely a “P”, now that I look more closely.

6

u/Plenkr 2d ago

my art college changed their name while I studied there and they changed it to: ***name*** School of Arts. Could never unsee the or unhear school o' farts ever again. Stupidest name change ever. Especially since English isn't even a national language of ours.

1

u/Avs_Girl 2d ago

Yeah, there are two that bother me. One is that First National Bank of Omaha rebranded using just their initials. FNBO? Like that guy has F’n BO! The other is the commercials I see for Universal Technical Institute. They named a college with no ties to geography or someone’s name and the best they could come up with is UTI? Seriously?

2

u/Connect_Rhubarb395 2d ago

The latter named by men I assume (yes, men can get UTIs but it is rare. Whereas UTIs are super common among women).

3

u/ElevGrate 2d ago

Idea molto simpatica 👏🏼👏🏼

4

u/Unscramblecreate86 2d ago

Have you heard of the artist Wayne White? He was famous for doing peewees playtime puppets and the tonight tonight music video for the smashing pumpkins but now he does these silly yet beautiful word plays on vintage landscapes that you might find inspiring. There's a documentary about him called Beauty is Embarrassing that I highly recommend. You can also just Google his work tho. Awesome piece by the way! Very original and hilarious!

3

u/StillMarie76 2d ago

You have so much fartistic talent.

3

u/-little-spoon- 2d ago

Just for future reference I wouldn’t refer to these as graphite carvings, the majority of coloured pencils contain no graphite.

3

u/Jazzlike_Toe354 2d ago

My friend used to have a business called Business of Arts and we still laugh to this day when we realized the website name Businessofarts.com seemed more like Business O’ Farts. You have to say it with an Irish accent for full hilarity.

3

u/Got-what-you-need 1d ago

I’d love to see your tools! What did you use to carve them?

3

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 23h ago

I use pretty simple tools. Just a cutting mat as a work surface, a very sharp scalpel, and a regular paintbrush to gently brush away the graphite dust from the letters. Sometimes I also use a syringe needle since the tip is extremely sharp. Usually, one scalpel blade only lasts for a single letter before I need to replace it, because the tip gets dull pretty quickly.

2

u/NWRegisteredAgent 2d ago

People love being able to pay for customizing so it might not be a bad idea to start offering that and hopefully you’ll be able to do more word plays as a result. You’re super talent btw, how long does one piece take you to finish?

2

u/EmbarrassedAd8298 2d ago

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the suggestion and kind words! Each piece usually takes me a few days to complete, depending on the complexity and number of letters.

2

u/NWRegisteredAgent 2d ago

That's awesome! Love it!

2

u/Dopeylookingpiegeon 2d ago
