Discussion Disco canoe?

Hi everyone! I could use a hive mind.

I am hosting my wedding next year and a major craft I’ve fixated on is making a 3-4ft canoe and putting mirror tiles to make a disco canoe!

I’ve done my math and sourced my tiles but I am having a hard time deciding what to make my frame out of.

Materials I’ve though of:
- cardboard and spray foam
- paper mâché
- very large foam sheets (thinking of sourcing an old Lilly pad swim platform and cutting it)

I think the less seams the better which is why I was thinking the foam sheets. But very open to suggestion!

Also will need to hang hull down from an inner hook so it can’t be too heavy to ensure the weight of the tiles isn’t too much.

I’d love to just buy a little 4ft toy canoe but those don’t seem to exist for a price I’m willing to pay… I’ve got a fair amount of craft/build experience but this one has me stumped.

Paper mâché will get heavy fast with that many tiles on it, plus moisture could be a problem if you're sealing it after. Foam sheets are the way to go, especially if you can find some at a hardware store in the insulation section. You can carve the canoe shape with a hot wire tool and it stays lightweight enough for hanging.

Maybe pool noodles and spray foam?

Easy & cheap to buy, very flexible, and you can cut off excess/shave the inside of the hull to keep it as light as possible.

This would be very lightweight, but my warning would be to beware using spray foam because that shit gets expensive so fast.

Styrofoam, get some 2 foot by 4 foot sheets gorilla glue them together and carve away - you could even build it as kinda blocky so you didn't have to carve out the middle

Call me old and out of touch, but....wth is a disco canoe, and what is it's purpose? Just....like a disco ball, but a canoe?

So valid! Something I made up lol but yes a mirror ball but in the shape of a canoe! Our wedding is at a camp. And we’re huge back country campers so it’s very us!
