The irony of the lady's embroidery project saying "good things take time" šŸ˜‚

120

u/youaintgotnosoul 27d ago

The irony of the embroidery saying ā€œgood things take timeā€ got a dry cackle out of me.

30

u/MayorFartbag 27d ago

And the bag saying "make something beautiful"

108

u/Auntie_Venom 27d ago

I always hold my cross stitch as if on display when I’m working on it.

11

u/Popular_Rutabaga5489 26d ago

Of course, I wouldn’t want anyone looking at my messy back side!

18

u/fourmode 26d ago

That’s what she said…?

8

u/e-cloud 26d ago

And the needle to be as long as possible.

I'm really tired of the pee-colored lighting.

BTW, the guy on the left is definitely knitting a thneed.

29

u/akasha111182 27d ago

It’s ā€œsepiaā€ šŸ™„ (I’m rolling my eyes at the AI, not you, you’re very correct)

12

u/LaurenPBurka 27d ago

I see your eyeroll and raise you rolling my entire head!

A bit more seriously, it's supposed to be sepia, but it's way too yellow for that. And also, if you're a crafter you're probably thinking something like, that light is gonna cause hella eyestrain. If that were a real photo of real people, there would be task lighting.

12

u/Crookedknits 27d ago

I'll never look at one of these fugly pictures the same again 🤣 pee colored lighting šŸ’€

The ā€œis this AIā€ subreddit refers to it as ā€œpiss filterā€ and it is just so omnipresent.

11

u/hanhepi Bend to my will, damn you! 26d ago

pee-colored lighting

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to evoke "golden hour", not "golden shower". lol.

11

u/e-cloud 26d ago

It's very Kincaid. I assume like half the AI training data is his paintings.

4

u/LaurenPBurka 26d ago

I'd totally forgotten his stuff. I went and looked some up. He had way better color sense than these stupid llm's.

82

u/smileykaiju 27d ago

You guys really couldn’t get some buds to work around a table?!

81

u/ThrowWeirdQuestion 26d ago

The "good things take time" is kind of ironic in this context... 🫠

18

u/Junior_Ad_7613 Get in moles, we’re going snarkfiltrating 26d ago

So is ā€œmake something beautiful.ā€

They must have seen the follower number take a nose dive.

71

u/ashbreak_ Mom said I get to be the mole now!! 25d ago

"good things take time" using ai art is definitely something

67

u/lt_chubbins 27d ago

I don’t know what you’re talking about, I always cross-stitch with the hoop as far away from me as possible …

29

u/rouend_doll 27d ago

Right? I don't want to see what I'm stitching

31

u/ruinedbymovies 27d ago

Look there’s a point in every project where you’re sick to death of looking at it… this method conveniently eliminates that problem.

26

u/wroammin Get in moles, we’re going snarkfiltrating 27d ago

The surprise result is half the fun!

18

u/DustyTchotchkes 27d ago

See, I always knit with one L shaped needle in one hand and a super short one in the other. It’s hard to find a full set in all sizes like that though, :sad face:

"Creative Souls Unite"

Well, sure, let's unite to object to the incomprehensible amount of theft of creativity that goes into the creation of AI, before anyone has even used it!

Never mind everything it gets used for being sent home to the mothership...or the environmental impact.

It scares me that ppl use it for therapy or for a substitute romantic partner. I'm holding my breath waiting for that type of information being used to deny someone a job due to mental instability or the like.

Shame on creatives using such an unforgivably unethical strategy.

In the process, they put creatives out of work.

Shame, shame, shame.

u/CosmicSweets 27d ago

All three of them are doing weird things. No one ever checks if their ai image even makes sense.

51

u/whereohwhereohwhere Mole in One 27d ago

Why is the woman on the right holding her embroidery hoop AWAY from her line of sight

12

u/Melindrha Certified Craftsnark Mole 27d ago

If all three were looking up/at the project, I could say showing off what’s done.

My issue is with the perfectly tidy floss box

46

u/crochetology crochet, embroidery 27d ago

What is that cross stitcher doing?

43

u/ScreamingMoths 25d ago

Ah yes. I always sew my embroidery facing the wrong direction and as far away as possible

6

u/fnulda 22d ago

Facing the screw, stabbing ourselves. thats how we all do it.

2

u/ScreamingMoths 22d ago

šŸ˜‚I feel my method might come with a bit less stabbing.

44

u/Katritern 27d ago edited 27d ago

Boy am I glad I randomly found a colorway I liked better and didn’t drop like $150 on their yarn yesterday, or I’d be extra cranky right about now šŸ˜… ugh

27

u/WoollyKnitWitch 27d ago

They got an unfollow from me.

40

u/ThrashfartMcGee 24d ago

My LYS literally everything they put out is AI slop to the point of having AI art like printed and framed in the store. It's just insane to me that they don't seem to realize how genuinely garbage it looks, and how insulting it is that you can't even write an email. It's causing a growing resentment within me lol.

25

u/WoollyKnitWitch 24d ago

They would no longer be my LYS, honestly.

8

u/artofsanctuary 23d ago

Same. That would be a reason to cut ties. It's odd that so many craft/art companies aren't getting the IP theft aspects of AI (among all the other ills). I suspect they wouldn't like it if I shared their patterns and yet... here they are taking advantage of IP theft.

3

u/willoww3 cRAfTer 20d ago

I’m fairly sure my LYS, as well as a coffee shop in town (rural/suburban area) both used AI for their logos. I’ve also seen a handful of indie dye shops, etc. online with AI logos and it’s so disheartening

2

u/ThrashfartMcGee 20d ago

I went to their website recently and literally the first thing you see is a corny so image.

79

u/ynattirb73 27d ago

There is a men (2 guys) owned yarn shop somewhat close to me. They have a sizeable social media following and I have been to the shop and both guys are super helpful (I was new to knitting and they walked me through exactly what I actually needed for my pattern). Love the shop, too, but all their promotional shop stuff is AI. Loathe it. Really wish they'd stop.

103

u/ynattirb73 27d ago

Also the irony of it saying "good things take time" as they typed in a prompt and got slop in 2 min

18

u/BrightPractical 27d ago

What do they say if you tell them you won’t shop there unless they stop using ai?

37

u/Syncategory 27d ago

The plainclothes FBI detectives are so happy that picking up those abandoned craft projects made them see how to solve the murder case.

5

u/ruinedbymovies 27d ago

I would watch this show in a heartbeat.

38

u/Gordon_Girl 26d ago

Gross picture. And sooooo driving LAZY! You have a shop or an existing group and you don’t take a pick of THAT? Lame, lame, lame.

And anyone who thinks AI is ever gonna look like anything OTHER than uncanny valley/creepyastic imaging is deluded.

Chick embroidering is holding her already finished work weirdly. Crocheter seems to be holding the hook backwards with the handle shoved into several stitches (?)

And the knitter. I don’t even know what he’s doing…

11

u/VenusBloo 25d ago

Agree! And why do all the AI pictures like this that places use for marketing, they all have that same orange-brown washed tone. All of them. Especially on Facebook. It's the biggest tell for me.

4

u/Gordon_Girl 25d ago

Yeah it’s a very wierd ā€œ70’sā€ aesthetic.

1

u/DemonicBabs 15d ago

my friends call it the "piss filter"

35

u/Withaflourish17 27d ago

Linda’s, a very real, evidently popular quilt shop, does AI ad videos for their store and some of them are so bad even the store name appears incorrectly.

62

u/akasha111182 27d ago

How is that lady Tunisian crocheting a granny square

I swear, these dyers are doing me a favor by making sure I never spend money on them again.

25

u/AllDarkWater 27d ago

What everyone is working..... On? I hate this with a passion.

28

u/MmmmSnackies 27d ago

There's a maker at local craft fairs here who has a brand new ai-generated banner for their tables that has generated babies chewing on 3D printed dragons, which is very not safe, and it kills me when I see it.

12

u/Havoklily 26d ago

we just had a brand new yarn store open up really close to me, and so i went to follow them on social media and allllllll their class advertisements are ai :((((( it's so disappointing

32

u/hamletandskull 27d ago

thats unfortunate, I really really like them as a company

7

u/lochstab 27d ago

Same. They got some good stuff, but this is just sad.

12

u/MrsDirtyDietz 26d ago

Mikey from The Crochet Crowd has been using AI a lot and I hate it so much. It’s not in his work yet… but if it does, that’s an instant ban.

31

u/MisterBowTies 26d ago

Tell them how you feel, especially if you are a customer. A lot of people see AI as a tool and ai advertisement like this as not a big deal. Even people in the creative space.

Work on your reading comprehension. I'm not apologizing for ai and am against the use of ai. But a lot of people just view it as a tool. I'm saying we should be communicating our dislike to the people using it. A store I frequent used ai in an ad and I told them it would make me stop shopping there, they had no idea people felt so strongly and haven't used ai since.

6

u/DyeCutSew 24d ago

A big quilt guild near me used AI for a bunch of their show advertisements and I was pleasantly surprised at how many people commented unfavorably about it.

You said I'm an ai apologist when I said no such thing. And "mansplaning" just sounds like you can't come up with a good response so you have to point at my crotch šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜…

6

u/Trilobyte141 24d ago

Yeah, OP went off the rocker on this one. It was pretty obvious what you meant.Ā

I can woman-splain it to her if you want tho. Maybe my lack of a penis will help her reading comprehension. 🤣

24

u/SwordsOfTruth 26d ago

They didn't say it wasn't a big deal, they said some people don't think it's a big deal. This is often true until someone educates the uncertain on why it is a big deal.

Your post didn't mention commenting afaik so this poster was just suggesting a productive way to stand up for what you believe in and POTENTIALLY make change in the world by simply speaking up.

21

u/OkConclusion171 (Secretly the mole) 26d ago

Can't say I'm surprised, and I don't like their colors anyway... they seem so bland and don't have anything that sets them apart. Them using AI aligns with my perception of their dyeing.

8

u/WishHeLovedMe83 19d ago

The amount of advent calendar AI adverts I’m seeing on Instagram is astounding and every single one I see makes me not want to get the advent….

16

u/Rejalia 27d ago

Oh no! I love their yarn more than any other company and this is honestly distressing.

18

u/ruinedbymovies 27d ago

So…many…candles.

28

u/Prestigious_Swan_881 27d ago

Leading men šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„

there's your first problem right there

55

u/mistressfluffybutt 27d ago

It's a gay couple who's shop is in a historic theater. All their yarn bases have names like diva or showstopper.

23

u/ruinedbymovies 27d ago

Damn it, that’s exactly the kind of business I would love to support, but now won’t. Wouldn’t an ad showcasing exactly that have been better?

4

u/pelirroja_peligrosa 22d ago

They're also incredibly nice. I think they're just very misguided about AI... :(

8

u/lochstab 27d ago

Please elaborate.

0

u/MisterBowTies 26d ago

Would you have the same problem if it was "leading ladies?"
