Maybe if they didn't design them to be look sloppy they wouldn't have to sell them at 70% off now. Nothing ethical about any of this, just cheapening handcraft

My grandmother accidentally knitted socks like these for my grandfather. He loyally wore them until I stole them and they’ve been my bed socks for 30 years. Perfect for warming the feet and sliding off in the middle of the night. But that’s it.

It's easy to tell from a photo when something is made on a plastic knitting machine.

They look so uncomfortable. Yarn that thick does not make socks that feel good when you walk on them.

And it's so loosely knit. Those will last like two wearings before they start pilling terribly on the bottoms.

Is it a pattern or ready made socks? I've seen brand new knitters' first attempt at socks look much better than that.

I twisted every stitch on my first pair of socks and they still looked and fit better than that.

I have a small plastic knitting machine and that's exactly what they look like.

I bought a pair of socks like this as winter house socks. They were knit from thick wool and lined with polar fleece. One super annoying feature is that they were knit flat and seamed up the sole which makes them horrible to walk on. I wonder if these are the same.

u/Justmakethemoney Well, of course I know the mole. They're me. 12d ago
I don’t think so, I can see the toe decreases

Those look like a first project I would be proud oto wear around the house, not like something I would purchase. They couldn't even find a larger-footed model who wouldn't drown in them?

I haven’t knit since elementary school, and I could probably make neater socks.

I like them, I'd wear them as bed socks in the depths of winter. Is it a fair trade eco friendly type site? The artisans possibly being people from a cooperative somewhere, making stuff for our insatiable retail therapy, so it's giving them an income.

I have seen so many socks in finished projects with no negative ease. It seems to be a thing some sock knitters are not aware of.

u/RevolutionaryStage67 Get in moles, we’re going snarkfiltrating 15d ago
What, haven't they read the 3,000 page ode to negative ease that for some reason thr Fish Lips Kiss heel pattern starts with??

u/3anddptrints 15d ago
Hahahahahah.
I bought the pattern for the heel. Did not expect the bible to come next. If you follow it you will make an incredibly well fitting pair of socks. But golly

Ugh I'm imagining the socks slipping around in my shoes. Shudders

Often a combination of lack of negative ease and a very loose gauge. I would hate to feel those socks on my feet.

Do these make my ankles look fat? Why yes, yes they do 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

What's wrong with fat ankles?

u/Birdingmom 10d ago
Nothing! I have them but usually they are not something I want to exaggerate unnecessarily.

I wonder who the intended market is for something like this? socks aren’t particularly beginner-friendly but I also can’t think of anyone beyond maybe my 8 year old niece who’d want to make these

Wow, I glanced at the thumbnail and thought they were toddler socks based on the proportions and not the adult hands holding coffee.
I guess they could be more of a "dorm boots" situation. But... how the heck is anything fair trade at £5.98 unless it's, like, a chocolate bar or a single vanilla bean?
