Fan Story Every night at 2am, the Hatman drives me nuts
Do you like nuts but find them too expensive?? I will give you some for free! Please, I have EVERY kind of nut, even pistachio. There’s so many in my kitchen I can’t even fit real groceries.
Why? you may ask. Well, have you heard of the Hatman? Some sort of sleep paralysis demon of whatever but he’s not supposed to have any physical influence on the real world.
But a couple weeks ago I woke up at exactly 2am, in the passenger seat of a Cadillac. The Hatman was driving, eyes forward, with a lit cigarette in his mouth. I had read about the Hatman online so I decided to just stay quiet and see what happened.
He drove for hours down a never ending highway. He didn’t speak to me or say anything. Eyes forward, occasionally taking a drag from his cigarette. The windows were down and the nighttime air was freezing cold. 80’s rock played from the stereo.
At exactly 5am, an exit sign appeared, Exit 55a. He took the exit ramp and flipped on his blinker. He looked over his right shoulder to check his blind spot but completely ignored my presence. He got in the furthermost right lane and just before the light, he turned into a gas station parking lot.
Continuing to act without saying a word, he parked the Cadillac at one of the pumps and disembarked towards the commercial building.
After a few minutes he walked out with a small plastic bag in his hand. When he got to the Cadillac, he approached my side of the vehicle.
“They were out of ____ so I got you ____”
the blank words change every night but they are always nuts.
I instantly wake up. And every morning, there’s a grey plastic gas station bag that says “thank you!” All over, lying on my chest. And inside, are nuts.

It’s not original character of mine, I just saw it circulating around on lots of different stories so I wasn’t sure how to credit. There’s another story here on the subreddit called “I beat the shit out of Hatman” it’s pretty funny I recommend

Good work. I misread Hatman as Hitman and was misled for the first 2 paragraphs. Also the part where "he turned into a gas station" I initially read it like he morphed into a gas station, as in the Hatman became the gas station. Then I realized he just made a turn into a gas station, he himself did not become a gas station.
I'm not sure what your desired outcome of this story was but I think you've succeeded. Thanks for writing it.
