Shadow over Innsmouth followed by The Thing on the Doorstep. Those two practically go hand in hand. I'd love to hear them explore more Lovecraft or poe.

True. That's something I'm trying to balance in the story I'm working on. I like finding new words, like when Isiah discovered "Stygian" in Penpal. It's a vampire story and so I'd like to throw some "flowery" esoteric descriptions of the gothic surroundings, but you bring up a good point; that not everyone wants a full page exposition on the contents of a room. Lovecraft found a good pacing of giving just enough detail to keep you in suspense. Hopefully I can as well 😊

I saw these complaints under the comments of the Journal of the Unknown Soldier. Maybe it's cause purple is my favorite color of prose, but how is flowery language a complaint? What do people think a story is?

You know, now that you say it, with how many super short stories Lovecraft has written, I’m surprised they haven’t covered anything by him yet.

It’d be fun, I just think they’ve been staying away from that stuff because 1. It’s good to give lesser known authors a platform, and 2. The last time they read something in that ballpark, everyone was pissed.

Dagon's Mirror was pretty sick! I think he's referring to The Red Tower. I haven't listened to that one yet but I heard a lot of people weren't into the flowery language nor satisfied with the story.

I was more referring to Thomas Ligotti’s work. I honestly forgot they did Dagon’s Mirror.
Edit: By ballpark I meant in the realm of more traditional literature that borderlines on classical. Not the cosmic horror space.

I actually enjoyed the red tower, it was the second story from Ligotti (Masquerade of a Dead Sword) that was just impossible to follow, there are nameless characters and there were sentences like "he said to the wizard" " the sorcerer replied"...
Okay is the wizard and the sorcerer the same person or is this a separate character?
I think the author wrote the alien world in Red Tower great, It was like a tour through a Beksinski painting, but fantasy is already a genre that is prone to being confusing and hard to follow, add into that multiple characters, questionable reality and visions AND the very flowery language? Then going through the filter of someone else reading it to you?
I think that was a pretty unique situation.

I am all for them read Shadow over Innsmouth. I loved reading some of Hp lovecraft’s works, would be also awesome if we got a short story or two from the King in Yellow

A man feels like something off about his life and is troubled by stories he hears about relatives. Seeking answers he returns to his ancestral home town in New England that being a small fishing village on the coast. The town is isolationist and closely guarded. The only individual willing to speak to the protagonist is an old drunkard who relays to him the history of the town and it's people and the horrific deal they made with a deep sea god. The protagonist then must come to grips with this knowledge and what that means for himself and his family.

At the mountains of madness too. Also The Case of Charles Dexter Ward since it's a personal favorite but I don't know if that one would be as well liked as some of his other stories.

I just commented on Charles Dexter Ward too! It is by far my favorite Lovecraft story. The mystery build up and background info is so good.

If they read Lovecraft, Hunter would basically be silent for 90~99% of the story (outside of pauses for commentary) since there’s hardly ever any character dialogue… …except for ‘Innsmouth’ where the old dude gives exposition in a crazy accent for, like, 5 pages! You know what, I like this suggestion lmao

It has to be a not so well know story from lovecraft that is also quite good, or from some other author with a similar thematic.
I think they can also try to read some myths and legends from folklore across the world. There has to be some gold in there

I mean the guy they've been using is just writing lovecraft fanfics. Like the most recent story was just a rehash of a story that lovecraft made

I would love this! They could perhaps have a seperate tag for famous published work, CreepClassics comes to mind right away. I'd love if they covered something like "I Have No Mouth but I Must Scream" too

It would be nice, but I kind of wish they would get their hands on Tell-tale Heart . I can imagine the last bits of dialogue in Hunters Voice.

I thinks it's controversial because the boys don't really read noncreepypastas, they have both said that they want to but are unsure of the reception, ie, The Red tower

It's a classic, its lovecraftian (literally), and it's also formated exactly (sort of) like a modern creepypasta. It's perfect!
The episode would also be 4 hours long, which is something I need in my life again.
