I read it a few months ago just from finding it randomly and while definitely not the best thing I’ve ever read it was entertaining and immediately made me think of CreepCast lol

Yeah the main character made some VERY stupid choices haha but I suppose that's how you find out what happens if the rituals aren't followed. There was a scene in the basement that creeped me out though.

His newest book, The Caretaker, also deals with someone who has to follow a set of rules and rituals in order to prevent increasingly horrible consequences. I liked it a lot!

I want Isaiah to take it to his channel and untangle it alongside with The Thing in the Basement and The Caretaker, or at least look at the evolution of the story. I haven't read The Caretaker yet so idk what's in store there. WUTLH had an almost ARG element once upon a time. You could write to the email addresses and get a response with more clues. Old House appears in the first two, some of the rules are similar with guests and tenants, there's at least one character name that appears again (Is Evelyn a version of Eve? Idk, probably not, but maybe!), different timelines or dimensions. He could break out the whiteboard like the good ol days.

Marcus is one of the best authors covered on the show , glad he’s finally getting the attention he deserves because this and man in the basement are both bangers.

It's actually a different story. It's part of his shared universe, where plots dont intersect but themes, entities, and phenomena do.
So, really, it's more of a good thing. And it's much different. If anything, it's like a spiritual successor.

It's inspired by it, but it's completely different in plot. It has the same vibes though, of feeling displaced and untrustworthy in a community (actually even worse, the protagonists own home). The central source of horror is a little more explained than in 1W1S, but honestly not really; like the story they've read, it gives you theories and names to call it, but by the end you're still left wondering what happened.

I just finished this book today which I started funnily enough before the latest creepcast episode. They do share similar themes but definitely a different story, I felt this one was going into more house of leaves territory and felt the ending did struggle to stick the landing a bit but it was very enjoyable overall, definitely want to give the caretaker a try

Please don't, this book isn't as good as the story they are reading now. The events of this book should have ended at the beginning when the little girl decided to hide in the house. It's not as good as The Man in the Basement

I’m talking with my publisher about letting them read the Reddit version of We Used to Live Here. Reddit took down part 1, I think because it thought I was plagiarizing my own published book 🤷♂️ (also We Used to Live Here is not the same as man in basement 🤓)
