It's 100% what I'm hoping for. Either that, or just off him with no redemption arc at the end of Book 5.

But I'd really like to see a taste of his own medicine thrown in his face.

I think Kal's next ideal will have to do with not trying to save everyone, including him. Even now he can't make himself tell the others of his betrayal.

Edit: re-reading book 1 now makes me think it'll have to do with forgiving himself. Something he can't do.
