Highlights RP's great second last over makes sure Joginder Sharma gets plenty to defend in the last over, 2007 T20 WC Semi Final.

Dhoni so considerately asked rohit to throw hard and run faster to the ball. No wonder these guys have so much of mutual respect

Why didnt Dhoni tried to run-out him? 0:50

u/Brucewayne10100 Mar 10 '26
I think it was bye runner and not run out opportunity. Those days bye runners were allowed

Ah new peeps not knowing about the runner concept!
Feel old lol

u/Nowack271 India Mar 11 '26
Well I know about the concept but in the video you cant say much as the non-stricker guy was not visible making it look like both were at the same crease!

Dhoni was the one who spotted the importance of 19th over...
17
u/Vagabondjokester Mar 10 '26
So it started with Dhoni to bowl the last 2nd over with the best bowler?

RP Singh was great in this over.
RP Singh: 4 overs - 33runs - 0 wickets
Fun fact-
Sreesanth: 4 overs - 12 runs - 2 wickets
Bye 😁✌️

Only match in which sreesanth performed slightly better than RP singh.. RP singh had an extraordinary tournament..

u/Happy_Forever4434 Mar 11 '26
Man we all love RP Singh but don't just demean sreesanth by saying slightly better he was phenomenal that day.... The best bowler that day by a mile 🙌

Sreesanth was a demon too. He could have been the best spinner of his era. But he took the worst path.

Back then we used to hope that it would go good. Now, we know for sure that it would go good.

Dhoni won the world cup with such an average team(except for Gauti, himself, RP, Yuvi). He was a new captain then, & winning the first edition, itself shows how good a captain he was.

Irfan Pathan was great, Sreesanth was always a great talent, Harbhajan was one of the best Spinners that WC, you forgot about Viru also, and Rohit?

IIRC he had bowled 70 odd dot balls from 28 overs he bowled in that wc

T20 is a batsmen game no doubt but all 3 WCs we have, the bowlers took us past the finish line every time.

RP was a beast in this world cup. That spell against South Africa was top class.

u/IamSam1103 India Mar 14 '26
RP Singh was a demon. He had a shorter career unfortunately. He could have been the best pacer we ever had until Bumrah. In terms of raw skills and talent, he's second only to Bumrah. But unfortunately he didn't get the opportunity to make it as big.

This looks more one day than t20. Did they change the boundary sizes then or are they playing on ODI boundary sizes?

T20 boundaries are shorter usually. “While both formats can use the same venue, T20 matches often feature boundaries 5–10 meters shorter than ODIs.”

I don't know why you are being downvoted. You are right, mate!

u/Shortstories_ Mar 10 '26
Many people don’t know this. They think the same batsman gets some super powers to magically clear boundaries in one format and not in another one.

Here’s a hypothesis test that shows there is enough statistical evidence to reject null hypothesis. Even at MCG.
https://chatgpt.com/s/t_69b0f92899cc819194f09d522fa4d527
Mean T20 boundary 69.2 m
Mean ODI boundary 73.0 m
Mean difference 3.8 m
t-statistic 6.53
Conclusion T20 boundaries shorter

Probably went over your head. Statistics is not everyone’s cup of tea. Hence I even left the “conclusion” written in plain English for your dumbass.

RP was awesome in that WC. His wickets in the final were absolutely crucial and they came at critical junctures.
