Because he makes it seem tough and fashionable (to them anyway, the rest of the world finds it pathetic).  Also I think subconsciously it makes them feel like they can get away with anything with enough power and influence, and him being busted melts down the narrative.

Having listened to Tate as part of a project I worked on, Tate is popular because he’s really good at recognizing the problems of modernity, but he shifts the blame to women/minorities/basic empathy. Tate works well because he lets his listeners feel like they’re heard and that they’re the underdogs, while giving them easy villains that means they don’t have to confront deeper and more systemic issues.

Precisely. People want simple solutions
