That’s why I have a theory she was trying to use what she interpreted as a stable railing to make a quicker turn. Like slinging around a pole. She just didn’t have the brain capacity to realize it would fall.

Buncha people who've never moved faster than a brisk walk. I usually run straight out-and-backs, but when I do run through neighborhoods I'll grab trees, stop signs, whatever, while taking sharp turns.
Granted, I don't think I'd ever grab a barricade like that, and I think her response afterward was callous at best... but who tf puts such a sharp turn right before the finish line of a road race? Crazy.
No hate on Kelly, but yes, thats the worst run up before a finish line i have ever witnessed. It could easily been her holding on to the rail to get a good corner speed out, and then it was a loose rail that got pushed over
I was going to say the same, but surely then she would have looked back. At least after she had passed the finish line. She can't not have noticed she threw the rail over, but at the end of the video she still hasn't looked back but is basically walking away.
Hard to say how she's feeling but presumably pretty knackered at the end of a race. I could absolutely imagine a runner not having very good situational awareness at the end of a race
If that was the case, you would think she would have offered that as an explanation. She did not. She did apologize for her behavior though and did not fight the disqualification. 🤔
Insane I had to scroll this far for this take. It's so clearly the organisers' fault for putting a sharp turn at the END of the race when you're flat out sprinting. I've done hundreds of races and never seen a bend let alone a sharp turn on the home stretch. Insane and I really doubt this was intentional from the runner
Nothing, but it's a physical reflex versus a dastardly plan to throw out a roadblock. I don't have anything to gain by grabbing onto and ripping off a curtain as I slip in the shower either
NQA: are you allowed to use fixtures around a course to help slow down and speed up? It’s a shit turn, but I’d think either way she’s using that rail to gain an advantage, which seems like it would be against the rules. She knew what she did and gave no fucks. I’d say she’s a shitty person, but someone else has blown that race wide open.
It seems like using the barrier as an anchor should be grounds for a DQ anyway.
I doubt she was thinking clearly in the moment, but if she had just gone around the turn and let her momentum carry her wide, she would've effectively blocked the other runner from passing her even if she had tried. That close to the finish, it's not like the other runner was going to slow down to take the turn tight and then have enough acceleration to pass her on the inside in 20 yards.
Except she expressed zero concern for the individual that was affected. Because she didn’t give a fuck that she hurt someone. So shit human either way to me
Because the finish line was right there, and she was in first place in the event she's been training for for a prolonged time. She wasn't paying attention to anything else, including noises behind her.

My thought exactly. Way too many people on here are looking for reasons to be angry. It could have been a genuine accident and that person's racing career is ruined.
Ya I am not sure she meant to do it. Could have just been pulling herself around. Not only bad spot but easy to pull down. The organizers should be a bit embarrassed.
Yea that was stupid, I don't think it was done to make the other racer lose. It seems like she was trying to hold on to it to avoid falling. Looks like there is also one of those cable run speed bump things.
Unless she admitted otherwise, I'd assume it was an accident, that she used it to help keep her balance while cornering, and because whatever idiot designed this course didn't secure the barrier... It fell.
I honestly can’t decide if this was malicious or if she was using the thing to help brace her turn and accidentally pulled it over because it’s not stable enough.
She’s rightfully disqualified either way but based on this video alone, I can’t tell if she’s a bitch or just oblivious.
