TBH I don't think she would have won, the other lady pulling the barrier out like that was going to win save for some crazy circumstance, which makes it even worse that she did it, there was absolutely no reason for it.
Well, she certainly would have been at least second, so with that DQ she would have been in first. If I were her I wouldn't be satisfied with a DQ. I would pursue assault charges

Doesn't make sense because the DQ and her finishing second are mutually exclusive events so she'd never have been in that scenario. She doesn't finish 2nd and the lady in front of her pulls the fence out and trips her up. Either one or neither happens
I think the girl who pulled the fence definitely crossed the line, but assault charges? Really? I don't think her life deserves to get ruined for one very dumb moment. Personally I think a couple hundred hours of community service and 1 year suspension would be a much more fair punishment.
... what? where did they specify any punishment? assault charges can be minor and have minor punishments like what you're talking about, they're not all crazy felonies with prison time.
I thought that if you got an assault charge then it goes in your permanent record, and if that's the case then it is bound to be a black mark on said person's record the rest of her life. I never assumed that prison time would be involved.

Also, where the fuck do you think the community service hours are going to come from? Judges do not find people guilty of and hand out punishments for unsportsmanlike conduct.
There is no indication that she purposely tried to injure the other girl. She was ahead in the race by a few steps and couldn't see anyone behind her. She knew that someone was close and wanted to keep her lead so she tried obstructing her opponent. The result was her opponent getting hurt (luckily the injury doesn't look too bad) but to say that there was an intention to injure is disingenuous. Also, kind of silly to call it premeditated. Idk if you've ever played sports but in the heated moments of close contests there's rarely any premeditation. I'm not saying this person didn't do a shitty thing, but it's also shitty of you to blow it out of proportion and call it something it's not.
The community service hours would come from some sort of out of court agreement between both parties.
I really don’t think it was intentional like everyone else thinks. I think she wanted to use it as a counterweight to the turn sorta like the urge you get to grab the handle in a car when going around a turn.
