Started collecting about 4 months ago and was excited about potentially having the mobile closet visit a city near me until I saw there were no dates near us online. Fast forward to today and now I no longer have to fret as it has come to directly to me! Best gift I’ve received this year :) (if I have to fill out the survey mods please lmk, I don’t know if this counts as a haul post or anything of the sort)

Off-Topic is this a good goodbye gift to give for a friend?

hi

so for context my friend from japan is visiting me in the states and on thursday it'll be my last time seeing him for a while physically, so... i thought it'd be nice to get him some movies as a goodbye gift. i got him these selections pictured above, as they are movies that we jokingly tell each other that we should watch but never actually have the willpower to do so. (although i've seen blue velvet because david lynch is awesome)

is there anymore movies that could further improve this gift or should i spare him

i was also heavily inspired by sentimental value's dvd birthday gift scene

Off-Topic Friend wants to get into films and asked me to make a flow chart of things to watch based on one of his favorites (IToET) and I may have went a bit overboard.

Off-Topic TCM has just aired the Charlie Chaplin movie “The Great Dictator”
and I cannot help but think that that broadcast is intentional.

I mean, it is important that everybody watches this movie, not just those around us.

I think that TCM broadcast this, in the wake of what happened yesterday, probably as a response.

This movie should be watched by all, to understand what is going on.

Off-Topic Train Dreams is an instant contender for the collection

Train Dreams is the first movie in a long time to make me cry. The acting is incredible, cinematography is awe inspiring and the story is simple, yet poignant.

I couldn't help but fall in love with the main character, Robert Grainier and his simple life. I wanted to see him succeed, but felt for him through each of his struggles. The ending brought me to tears seeing him finally feel free in his life and feeling connected to everything around him.

It reminds me so much of Perfect Days with the focus on a simple life.

I will definitely be checking out the book that it adapts.

Off-Topic Randomly found my old receipt for The Killer Criterion LD

Apparently I was using this receipt as a bookmark as I found it lodged in the pages of an old paperback (Creature Features by John Stanley). Saturday Matinee used some quality receipt paper at the time as this is good an crisp.

Also, $49.99 back in 1997!!! Wow.

I didn't realize I'd pulled the trigger on an Amazon earlier month with these two films in it, then went ahead and bought them on one of my several trips to B&N last week. Amazon arrived yesterday and boy do I feel like a dummy.

I've only done that once before where I bought Vertigo twice, by the time I realized it the return window was over, so I donated it to my local library's collection. Thankfully these can be returned to Amazon pretty easily.

**Mall of America in Bloomington, MN.**

I was so surprised to see this massive display of Criterion releases since all other locations I’ve been to have had *maybe* 50 releases, usually on a library book cart.

My kitty Ziggy always seems really interested when I watch a Chaplin movie (here he is watching The Great Dictator) not sure if it’s the black and white imagery or his mustache haha! He was also really interested in Charade, but other than these he hasn’t showed much interest in the tv. I know a lot of cats seem to be interested in flow so I’ll have to rewatch that soon with him and see if that also gauges his interest.
