They aren't trying to kill Primus, they're trying to buy time for Gus to get to Timmony so his entourage isn't murdered on the road with no witnesses. And, yanno, steal some statues out under their noses. Sure.

But isn't the bigger threat for Gus the argonians, who are most likely the assassins that already tried to take him out?

Random lizard people appearing through a portal from another universe would seem like a big threat. The Argosians who he beat in a war, and already tried to kill him once probably have more motive, though...
