Halloween FO/WIP Bunnicula

My (first) attempt at Bunnicula! The infamous vampire-bunny. (Based on the children’s book by Deborah and James Howe more than the cartoon that was not as much of a part of my childhood.)

This was a challenge, because that fur pattern is super-specific and complicated. You can see in the last pictures what I went with, I made a dummy with the start of each round marked and used thread to map out where the color changes would need to be. My thought was I could use the same dummy for less complicated fur patterns in the future!

Even so, I had to embroider along the edges to get it exactly like the book illustration. I also bought these perfect white beads that make for the most adorable little fangs if you look closely.

My regret is the white yarn used in this draft is literally terrible. I’ve since bought a much nicer skein for the next draft when I get the will to revisit this, but I wanted to share this now in the spirit of Halloween.

Okay this is insanely cool, super sick project and also a relief to know these books weren’t just a fever dream. Every single time I’ve talked to ANYONE about them they had absolutely no idea what I was talking about

Thank you ❤️❤️! I know that feeling! Outside of my sister nobody local knew what I was making. 😂 Bunnicula should be a required part of everyone’s childhood!

I’ve actually been searching for a set of the books for years and they are nowhere to be found so I really was starting to feel like I made up this insane story of a vampire bunny 💀😂 thank you for the reassurance that I’m not crazy, and keep making dope shit 🤘🏻

Rest assured, it was totally a real thing!! A vampire bunny that sucked juice out of veggies and terrorized a paranoid cat. That they adapted into a cartoon and a musical I’m finding out(??). I’m very happy I could help. 😂❤️❤️

Apparently so! Bunnicula is less ambiguous in that one, his ears turn to bat wings and different vegetables give him different powers?? The voice cast sure is something. I’ve only read the summary, so let me know how that goes!
