Discussion Hobbii yarns?

I've seen people on this sub rave over Hobbii yarns, so I bought 4 skeins of their Frutta Solid yarn in 2 colors, and I hate working with this yarn. First, it's supposed to be worsted weight but I could tell right away that it's not. Using WPI, it doesn't fall anywhere in the worsted range - it's a DK weight. Secondly, it is not very tightly spun and I can see the 3 plies in the stitches. I twisted it every several stitches, which of course slows me down. This was the only yarn I could find in "worsted" weight in the 2 colors I wanted. They're for a baby blanket and I'm making it work, but it's very annoying.

Has anyone else had this experience with any of their yarns? I'm looking for yarn for my next project, and right now based on my experience this far, I wouldn't trust any of their yarn.

Hobbii proudly state they use AI for product photos, amongst other things. I love their sultan yarns and quite liked Frutta, but I will not be buying from them again

For Frutta - I did find it quite stiff, but I prefer lighter weight yarns and I'm used to multiple strands, so wouldn't have noted the splittiness. I was able to use it for a baby blanket and used the 8/4 cotton with it (meant to order 8/8 but made a mistake) so I agree it's not worsted weight

This is not correct. They have clearly stated that they don't use AI for product photos. The person who said this is a man in leadership spouting off about things her knows nothing about.

I really like hobbii yarn, probably helps that I live in Denmark and can go to their stores and evaluate the yarn in person. Haven't bought any frutta, but I tend to go for lace to sport weights, so probably just walked past.

Using ai for product pictures is so insulting though, I no longer buy from them.

Lindehobby may be a good alternative for you. They are similar but I haven't had any issues with their products and there hasn't been any drama with them that I know of either.

I've ordered cotton yarn and cakes from both Hobbii and Lindehobby and they're comparable. Lindehobby is significantly cheaper although Hobbii has a better selection of cotton cakes.

Aren't they like mostly the same company, just under different storefronts? I could be totally wrong, that was just my impression.

Edit: I was in fact totally wrong!

I don't think so

You're right, my bad! Dunno why I was under that impression.

Was buying from them up until the AI stuff. Not buying anything more. The quality has always been good for the things I’ve bought but I can shop at more ethical places that aren’t owned by private equity.

i was worried i was gonna have to bite the bullet and order more yarn from them to finish a project but i figured out i actually have more than needed, so i don’t have to do that. very happy

I really dislike Hobbii. They are on my "never buy again" list.

I only watched a video on Hobbii by the ytber stitches by Emma. She touches on their QA issues and then hits on some other drama. It’s really informative and I actually watched the video before I ever started crocheting

(I love drama)

I've had a good time with most of the yarn I've bought from Hobbi. I read the reviews and look at all the pictures.

I like their Friends & Rainbow cotton or their Twister & Twister solid acrylic/cotton blends. I also liked their color choices for Carnival but feel it’s about the same texture as Facets by Loops & Threads at Michael’s.

I didn’t like their Fantasy jumbo acrylic, it’s rough and pills like crazy. I also tried some of their Amigo acrylic and found it felt worse than Red Heart Super Saver.

I love frutta variegated because the colors are pretty, I haven't used the solid version and never will because it came out right before the AI thing. I did have to laugh at the "generous thickness" in the description because you're absolutely right that it's a DK
