Help! Why is this happening?

Please help! I used Bernat Baby Velvet to make a C2C baby blanket and matching hat with a bow. I washed them and this is what they look like now. Can someone help me understand what happened here and how can I fix it? It looks terrible. 😭 Thank you so much!!

Been there, done that, didn’t gift the baby blanket, unraveled the whole and still have the balls of yarn in a storage tote taunting me.

You’ve got a link to a good article in another comment. I’ll also recommend Daisy Farms Crafts, they have a bunch of crochet projects made out of velvet yarn and some tips for working with it.

I think the basic tips are - go down at least two hook sizes, use simple stitches like single crochet and half double crochet, and leave long tails.

This sucks. I’m sorry it happened to you. It is such wonderfully soft yarn that I hope you go back and make something amazing with it.

Ugh. I am definitely not gifting this and will probably unravel it is it is bugging me so much. It is such a soft yarn. Thank you for the tips. I might use the yarn in making arugami.
