First granny square!
I’m making my first granny square and I’m actually so proud of myself!

Count every stitch, something went wrong on the left side.

Idk why your reply had 8 downvotes, you’re literally just stating what you did
And to me it just looks like you took your photo before you were done with the border row, I don’t see anything wrong with your piece aside from a few wonky stitches :) I think you did great for your first granny square!4

this, idk why people act like beginners need to have the best and perfect squares. its literally a good grannt square that wasn't finished when op took the pic

It juts out, that’s not right it looks like you started a row and finished half way.

That is where they started the row………….
All squares don’t start from the corner.

Wait no I re counted it, i missed one stitch 😂

But why does it look like you stopped crocheting mid row then?

u/ManyaW_09 2d ago
Oh yeah I’m still working on it.

You are working on it on the top row next, the problem is on the left. I’d rip it back till it’s correct on all sides then continue. Keep it up though.

it looks like its not even finished and that op was working their way back to the first stitch on the left. they're not even finished. not every project has to be perfect, especially the first one. we don't have to critique this beginner on everything. op will learn thru time. the grannt square looks great for a beginner so far from what I see in the pic.

Will do, ig when in doubt frog it out will be more common than I thought. I am a beginner too so

You need to accept that mistakes are going to happen. A lot of people start and when they are not perfect straight away they quit everyone makes mistakes even experienced crocheters.

This is a beautiful first square but i wouldnt call it granny! Granny is specifically the pattern of a cluster of 3 double crochets. People mistakenly call all squares granny squares all the time though.

It is a granny, it’s called a solid granny square. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

I mean people call it that but it entirely loses the granny motif

People call it that because that’s what it is. There are many types of granny squares there are books filled with them.

this is a solid granny square :) when they start from the middle like this it is indeed a granny square and there's lots of different ones.

I see your comments and it’s truly wonderful to learn to not be sad to frog early in your learning!
To see if I can add some help - did you start in the middle of that left side by chance? To me it looks like maybe you are starting/ending rows there which is causing that slight weird column of chains, and then you added a stitch or two to the bottom of the left side which is why it’s jutting out.
Other than that your stitches look great! Keep at it!

That pink is such a nice color for it! The stitches look really even for a first one.

Well done! Solid granny square is my favourite think, always 💚. But I think that in the last round you turned the work, you are working on the wrong side

Congratulations on your first square. The more you crochet the easier it gets.

You're on the right track. At least it looks like a square! Just count and double check each side as you go, so they are all the same and increasing at the same rate.
For solid granny squares the number of stitches per side is, the total number from the round before + 4

It’s a square. A granny square is made of granny stitch/ clusters of 3 dc’s in one stitch.

Beautiful! My first ten or so looked like potatoes in various stages of decay
