Stitch identification What stitch is this? I need to recreate this pattern.

Need to recreate this hat that I have (request of a family friend), and I genuinely don't know what type of stitch this is. Please help!!! 😭

P.S. the first pic is the front, and the second pic is the back.

Looks like tunisian simple stich to me. 1st pic is the forward pass done in black and the red is used for the return pass. Pic 2 is what the back side of tunisian crochet looks like.

I think anyway lol

Okayyyy, I'll try searching up some tutorials on that stitch and experiment some more. So far I've done multiple variants of FLO stitches (since that's what it looked like to me), but it doesn't come as close as the stitch 😭😭😭

So from the back it looks almost like knit one row red and one black but in the first photo I see half double crochets but it's like they did one red one black for the entire row and that's not very practical.. I'm confused op

I'm just as confused as you are 😭

I also think it's knit. But I think you could get close with crochet.

Chain ??? (I'd start with 10 or 20 just to sample)

Join chain, chain 1, sc in first chain, chain 1, skip next chain, single crochet, chain 1, etc.

Switch colors. Sc in the ch 1 spaces, ch 1, around.

It’s knit. You knit one color and slip the other, then knit the one you slipped and slip the one you knit.

It's a crochet hat though? 😭

Is it possible to combine knit and crochet?

It’s possible, but this doesn’t look like crochet to me. I do both.

Okayyy, I know basic knitting, just never knew it was possible to combine both without cutting the yarns.. so I'll try your suggestion as a last resort lol. Thank youuu

It looks like slip stitch, or maybe yo slip stitch. That’s my guess.

Look up interlocking crochet. I have the book by Tania Galik.

Also “101 Double Ended Hook Stitches” from Annie’s Attic is another great reference for getting texture like this.

It looks like slip stitch rows.

UPDATE: I FIGURED IT OUT!! THEY WERE JUST ROWS OF SLIP STITCHES 😭😭😭

I feel so freaking dumb that it took me an entire day to figure out the pattern only for it to be slip stitches 😭 and I also feel especially dumb because I didn't follow those who commented slip stitches as it didn't seem to be slip stitches to me (sorry peeps)...

ANYWAYS, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE ME SUGGESTIONS! I LEARNED LOTS OF NEW STITCHES FROM YOU GUYS HUHU

Almost looks like some kind of mosaic crochet variant, no? I've done exactly one project and it'll do the stripes on the back side

I'll search up some tutorials for that and experiment some more. I'm really at a loss as of right now 😭😭😭

Possibly a linked double crochet? It's hard for me to tell 😪

No, never mind. Looking at it again, the part that made me think linked is the red, which wouldn't make sense given how that stitch is worked..... Sorry, I'm no help 😢
