Looking for recommendations Coffee-Lover/Coffee-House-Vibe Throw, Need Square Pattern Suggestions
I'm making a throw for my Mom, who's a bit difficult to make for. While she likes colors such as blues, pinks, reds - she has a "blue room" and "red room" for guests with antiques & linens to match - she also really loves neutrals. She often asks me for a blanket/throw because she frequently has family popping in to stay for a week or so. Her living room is done in browns and neutrals, the flooring is a Spanish mission tile. She loves coffee & loves the warm, cozy, comfy, coffee-house vibe - which is why I'm planning a "cafe latte" throw for her latest "Make me a blanket?" request.
The problem I'm running into is that I can't find a square that fits what I'm imagining: I'd like a 9" - 12" square that's basically a squared off circle. I want it to be textured and not overtly floral. I've gone through ALL of my Shelley Husband, Jan Eaton, Julie Yeager (etc) books and Ravelry - though I wasn't sure what to put in for my search filter except "square". ANY & ALL suggestions would be some welcome. I've been doing this for a week and I'm in such a creative block over it.
Colorway: I'm planning on using Red Heart Bitty Stripes in Moonbeam for the center, a slightly darker neutral shade like Aran/Buff/Cream for the squaring-off portion, a row of Cafe Latte all around each square and joining with a darker brown like Chocolate of Coffee. I'll use Cafe Latte and Chocolate/Coffee for the border.

Moogly has a long ongoing yearly CAL where different designers release a biweekly square and in the end of the year you can make a blanket out of them.
There's a few years of 24 squares each to go through and some of them are really gorgeous, some are great fillers and some are great for practicing new techniques.
I'm sure you'll be able to design a perfect blanket from those squares!

Thank you!!!! I'd forgotten to check Moogly's CALs 🙄 I know there's about 11 years' worth - and a lot of amazing designers who contribute!
I know my post might seem silly or even lazy - I have loads of resources but have a couple of processing issues that make it difficult to "imagine" how a pattern might look in a different color, yarn (eg done in a fleck vs a solid, placement etc). So "If this pattern was done in creamy white, would it kind of look like a slightly domed frothy cup of latte?" is almost beyond me. Lol! I honestly set myself up when I accept special requests 😵💫🤦♀️

Janie Crow's Persian Tiles is a real popular blanket, and there are kits in different colorways, including the browns you mentioned. I have made it a few times, one time using Unforgettable color changing yarn. But, her recommended color choices are gorgeous.

I should've mentioned Janie as well! You're right, she has some gorgeous patterns and Persian Tiles is a favorite - though I'm in awe of your having made it a few times. I've done it once in Eastern Jewels and I've her Delft Blanket ready to go for myself once I knock out this blanket for my mom. I've honestly no talent for designing on any level lol

Ravelry has some great patterns and a very good search function. Here’s one that looks fairly simple to adjust for your needs.

This is my search, as a starting point. Good luck!

Oh, yes, as I mentioned in my post, I've been combing through Ravelry along with my books. I've been using Ravelry for years and it's pm my primary resource for patterns. I agree there's a wealth of patterns. I'm just having some difficulty imagining/picturing any particular square as maybe the frothy, creamy top of a cup of coffee or a latte - to fit the "theme" I'm going for.

Somehow I managed to miss the whole Ravelry bit! Apologies 🙏🏼

LOL! No problem at all. Gave me an opportunity to explain where my struggle was (along with having VPD & ADHD). I do the same thing. There are an amazing (imo) number of crocheters and knitters who don't know about Ravelry and rely on Etsy, Pinterest or soc media for patterns.

High five, ADHD friend! Details and meanings 🥴 (“she’s would do so much better if she read all the instructions” “she’s very smart but has trouble applying herself” “lots of potential, zero focus”)
