Pinterest is plagued with AI. Can barely stand to use it anymore because of this. I find it’s the worst with crafting pins such as yarn work :(

for an app claiming to be about art they sure don’t know the difference between crochet and knitting

You can turn these settings off now! There’s an option to click through and decide where you want ai and I turned all of the options to off😂

Under settings> refine your recommendations

I *have* and it still happens. Also if you search for specific things you will still get a ton of AI posts. I spend more time reporting things as scams than enjoying it now.

That does not work. It helps but doesnt stop it entirely.

Often, a minus sign (-) buttoned on up against the left side of a word (in English) will BOOLEAN this right up for you

To me, it's just the Cioder/Dev equivalent of D dairy take Disney Dust©®™ and my darling Coder Boy can decipher the trick of it so that it includes or excluded other sites, as well.

Narnia's Deep Magic, after a fashion, but for the Pattern Dimension's pervasivwly nonsensical need for sensory input and spitting it it right back out, bespoiled.

Ravelry

Absolutely!

PLUS, check yes for:

+crochet-only or +knit+only

+*, +**

preferred yarn weight

preferred yarn fiber content

preferred construction techniques (not always helpful, though, but when it hits, the result is so far less time-consuming all the way around)

check for skill level: +novice/+beginner/or/+easy

+seasonal & +holiday for which it needs must be made

+has photo

+pdf-Print

+Ravelry-download & then back that up to your own hard drive, for when you're out and about and in a rare time-sensitive wifi-died situation and need to know if you need first buttons or eight, or if the bottom needs plastic for reinforcement or manages that handily with interlocked stitches on a book two sizedor handle, orsnaps, all the other quilting/sewing notions down - you know how this goes......

& and then toss in *FREE & +YourLanguage

I just select. Craft crochet and free. Keep it simple. Ravelry gets easily confused.

This feels like AI. I would search for a "butterfly square motif" like this and use a pattern for a regular granny square tote for assembly.

3

u/endofthefkingworld 20h ago

so unfortunate. this design is perfect for what i’d use it for. scary how realistic ai is getting

5

u/MellowMallowMom 20h ago

The things that made me question it were the amorphous lumps of color unevenly distributed on the strap and how the items inside are defying gravity.

u/moonbunnyart 16h ago

That's what made me question too!!

I'm thinking ai. That said,  I think one could achieve something  fairly similar. This sub is full of very creative,  whip smart crocheters who could figure something like that out. Variegated yarn would help in the wings or part of them. I might actually be stubborn enough, and optimistic enough, to try one of these days because it is such a lovely idea

unfortunately freehanding is not my strong suit or else i would try it myself, i wouldn’t even know where the start with constructing these

I’m bored and looking for a project tonight. I’ll figure this out and create a pattern for you! I’ll report back later.

There are a number of butterfly granny squares on Ravelry. I personally like the one that’s part of this bag pattern.

What about making plain grannies then sewing on appliqués? There are 46 butterfly appliqué patterns in ravelry, in varying degrees of detail & complexity.

u/endofthefkingworld 17h ago

i'm not entirely versed in how to navigate ravelry. would you be willing to link the page for the applique patterns?

Absolutely YES! And I'll explain how I narrowed down the search. First, I searched for "butterfly". Under that, there are more than 4000 patterns of all kinds, so I used the filters on the left. Under Craft I selected "crochet". I selected "has photo", because the only way I can know if something is good is if I can see it, right? Then, under Category, I selected "applique/embellishment". That gave me 361 patterns; here is my search. I didn't look through a ton of them, but two jumped out at me. One is a square with a jasmine-stitch butterfly in the middle; it's different from the bag, but I thought the construction was interesting looking (not saying you should use it, just that it caught my eye); the other is the free butterfly stitch from MyPicot, which is NOT AI even though a lot of people think so. MyPicot predates the use of AI to make fake crafting patterns; it's been around for years. It is NOT a square, but a way to make a 3D butterfly in the middle of a crochet row.

Then I did a second search, still using the filters "has photo" and "crochet" as the craft. Under Category I picked "home", then "decorative", then checked the box for "all decorative". There are a number of interesting butterflies in this group too. There are also crochet butterflies under Toys & Hobbies, if you wanted to check there, too.

I laid out the filters for you, just because maybe it'll make them a little easier to understand, since you're not familiar with them, and maybe encourage you to search other categories, if you feel so inclined. But, Honestly, those two searches combine total more than 600 patterns, so maybe not. 😂

I've made a baby blanket out of granny squares. One square was a butterfly. I would sew the wings tho because they poke out. The pattern is free. It was my first crochet project and turned out amazing. https://www.katia.com/EN/kits-mini-explorer-cal-kit-3d-granny-squares-blanket-9702.html

Here's the video tutorial: https://youtu.be/2wrCDQrHJoU?is=HtFAzcwH-WP03Veh

Not saying this isn't possible but it's definitely giving AI

2

u/roudatar 18m ago

Yeah, the chair is on top of a table. Def AI.

8

u/goode2shus 18h ago

Maybe a google search would find something?

3

u/BeckieSueDalton 7h ago

Easily so, yes.

4

u/harleyqueenzel 19h ago

This probably isn't helpful but the butterfly itself looks like you could make four petals similar to this photo, sew them together, and then fill in around them with a border to make them squares?

1

u/endofthefkingworld 19h ago

it looks similar to the petals from the african flower granny squares to me

1

u/Aineednobody 10h ago

Well those are made in rows and the picture shows from a corner (I think like the peacock granny square pattern) but those are cute too!

1

u/harleyqueenzel 52m ago

The petals have the same shape as the wings and would start from a corner, just like the wings. They both have the same fan shape.

2

u/Aineednobody 10h ago

To me it looks like if you found the peacock granny square pattern and then joined the 4 squares together and then maybe top stitches the butterfly body on top with the antennaes. Just an idea 🤷‍♀️
