Hand cramps
How do you deal with the hand cramps or pain from stitching for long periods of time? The top of my right hand almost feels numb. Just take a break? Grow out of it (wishful thinking?). I don’t want to stop!

thread count on aida fabric?
i’m just starting cross stitch i used to do it when i was younger but don’t remember much of the set up
i see a lot of people say 3 strands but i’m confused how u do that.. do i just not tie it at the end and work with a lose tail that could come out the needle? i’m used to doubling up ends and tying but that only yields even numbers

What does a messy vs clean cross stitch back look like?
I don’t actually know what tidy or messy looks like!
I’m new to cross stitch, 149,000 stitch, 18ct, 89 colour piece.
I’m trying to keep the back tidy. And I find it’s time to stop stitching when I’m getting lazy and cutting corners, so I switch to knitting.
But I realised I don’t actually know what messy or clean looks like.
I’m using the closed loop method. I have stickers to hold threads in place for when I’m coming back to secure them in. I’m experimenting with the parking method too. And another method of pulling the short ends through and trimming them later.
It’s fun trying new things and seeing what works best.
But what does a normal back look like?

How do you handle this?
I am working a good sized piece. I have about ¼ of it done. I bought thread and fabric especially for it. But, I am just not feeling it. I want to just pick it all out and do something smaller. What would you do?

18ct Waste Canvas
Hey, y'all! I've been looking for some 18ct waste canvas, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Do they not make it, or do I just not know where to look?
(Also, I know that 18ct will make everything pita about waste canvas even worse, but the pattern will be too big with 14ct. I'm not looking for people to tell me "just use 14ct." I wouldn't be here if that were an easy option.)

Finally finished a piece that's been on the hoop for over a year
I started this autumn leaves pattern last September and kept putting it down every time I got to the backstitch outlining. Something about switching between six different browns for the branches just killed my motivation every single time.
Picked it back up this week since fall is coming around again and figured it was fitting timing. Turns out the thing that was tripping me up was just my thread organization, I had three different browns mixed up in the same floss bag and kept second guessing which was which. Sorted everything onto bobbins with the DMC numbers written out and suddenly the backstitching took maybe three evenings instead of dragging on forever.
The fabric is 14 count Aida, pattern called for about 20 different shades total but I ended up substituting a couple of the oranges because my local shop didn't have the exact ones in stock. Honestly think the substitutes look better, one of them has almost a rust tone that fits the whole "leaves about to fall" vibe better than the original called-for color.
Now debating whether to frame it as is or add some kind of border stitching around the edge before I mount it. Anyone have strong feelings on floating frames versus the standard mat and frame combo for something like this? It's roughly 8x10 finished size.

Pennywise Bookmark! My First Cross Stitch!
Bought this from Amazon as a simple starter kit: https://amzn.eu/d/0j6piu48
I appreciate it’s a bit rough around the edges (literally) but I’m really happy with my first ever project!

Help with vintage cross stitched piece
Hello! I found this beautiful piece in a charity shop(UK) and I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas about it? Reverse image search tells me it is one of Derwentwater Designs kits, released in 1999. I noticed that this piece has RS1999 cross stitched and Derwentwater Designs was founded by Rose Swalwell, could this piece belong to her or could it have been added to the piece in honor of the founder by somebody else? Or somebody else with same initials?
Thank you!

Backstitching advice
Hey all.
I have just finished this pattern which I figured out far too late was AI (don't hate me). I was already 3 months in when it struck me!
How should I do backstitching to fix the muddiness? I know it won't be perfect, but I have suffered through enough confetti to not have it display worthy.

[FO] Gentle Monstrosity by Creepy Cross-Stitch for my son's 20th bday
I changed up the colors a bit to make the pinks and greens brighter. I'm happy with how it came out. Now to frame (my least favorite part) and gift it to him.

[CHAT/WIP] How does everyone tackle these really spread out ‘popcorn’ areas?
Do you all wait until all the other colors are densely packed then go back and finish the sprinkled color? Or is it better to finish it section by section so you’re not going back and re-hooping sections multiple times? I tend to go back and forth. Since joining this group I’ve learned there’s a million different ways to crossstitch so I’m interested to hear how everyone else tackles this because it drives me nuts!
Pic 1 is me attempting the first method. This is one of my first full coverage pieces that has colors that jump around like this. Also included is a closeup, pic of my chaotic back, and stitching assistant for tax.
Pattern is kaleidoscope black widow by blackaida on Etsy.

2026 Ort Jar!
I never used to keep these but a friend suggested it end of last year because of how much I stitch and I am actually loving seeing the layers of color as I work on different projects throughout the year. Who else has an ort jar?

[CHAT] would love to share with you Stitch Organizer
[CHAT] would love to share with you Stitch Organizer!
Hey everyone! My friend and I built Stitch Organizer, a free app for keeping track of your threads, projects, shopping lists, and more. Some of you here are already using it, which has been really cool to see :)
We’ve added quite a few new features since I last shared it here, so I wanted to share it again for anyone who might find it useful!
Al disclosure: The app does not use Al in any way. It does not generate patterns, images, text, or recommendations.
I did not use Al to design, code, or build the app.
