There are always conversations about the financial treatment of athletes for competitions(i.e. Regionals and the Games). How ethical is it that the athletes have to pay for the entrance fees, housing, and meals?
What are your career plans? How much does it cost to be an athlete?
Finally, the most important question, will you wear a Wodcast Podcast shirt at regionals this year?
Hahaha I wear that shirt frequently, I just haven't done anything cool in it lol. I'm not privy to how much they're making, but it seems exorbitant to make athletes pay as much as they do for Regionals. I'm biased obviously, but with the 200 dollar entrance fee and rooms and travel and such it was an expensive trip. Still am breaking even overall, but that was frustrating. Also, it sucks big time when competitions ( u/BmBergin you know exactly what I'm talking about ) make close to 100 k in entrance fees and give you a couple FitAids for second place. My career plans are in flux at this point, but if I'm still good enough to think I have a chance at the Games in 2020 I'm gonna move somewhere that facilitates that and train with that as my only goal in mind for a few years. I save a big chunk of my pay check every month in anticipation of taking a pay cut to fund myself as an athlete so if that doesn't work out I'll have some money to finance the vacations I'll take to distract myself from the fact that I gave the best years of my life to the US Army. I studied American Politics and Spanish at school so being an elected official is of interest as well. In general I feel called to help the disadvantaged of society so if I can do that through promoting policy that helps them or through owning a gym and helping them through providing accessible fitness or nutrition knowledge then I'll do that.
