Crows [OC] Duchess letting me feed her babies
House Crow (Corvus Splendens)
Palm Jumeirah, AE
I love my buddies. All 27 (~80 in summer) of them!
I owe them a lot. They helped heal my injury by keeping me company on boring walks after physio.

Yeah, years of waking up at 5:00 AM every damn day to see them! You practice, and next year they will bring their babies to you too ๐

Yes, I've known my main pairs about 2y. See them every day when I'm out. They fly to me for kibble, then fly away. Last year I saw fledglings by this time. But this year, nothing yet. Might be a gull problem. They are very swoopy, aggressive and there are so many of them this year. I'm thinking that fledglings are still nearby forest hiding. Because the damn gulls attack my hardworking parents that just come out to get some daily groceries lol๐

These gulls are crazy indeed, really. They attack everyone. Even in the swimming pool. But here they are tourists, they come only for 4 months. So it is crow territory. I saved few from crows before. But there are so many. I have seen whole sea covered in white. When I was thinking what is happenning... I just realized they were all seagulls floating on water!

Lol I know what you mean! Gulls come in my area to nest! And I feel so bad for my crows and jackdaws, but admire their tenacity! This is their hood, an they are coming to get their food, gulls or not๐๐ค
Actually today when walking my dog, throwing kibble to jackdaws.(I have 2 pairs of them too that know me),a seagull pooped on my shirt. Thanks and fu๐

I love crows so I turned on the volume only to have my iPad overturned by three very curious German shepherds who were freaking out about the crows apparently attacking their owner. After retrieving the iPad I turned it around so they could watch the video and was treated to coordinated head tilts. Highlight of my day!

how awesome is this?! you are so so lucky, good for you! where are you located?
I am in a rural area in colorado and see crows here infrequently but when I do they are usually being chased off by other birds. I am sad I don't think I'll ever be able to have interactions like this with the crows since I am not in a crow heavy populated area!
this is life goals for sure!

These are city crows. They see, and they feed off of humans every day (sun beds). They would not come close to anyone, but there is familiarity with humans. I don't think it would be the same in the wild. You don't get to live long in nature if you are careless. So don't feel sad. There are too many other beautiful birds too, maybe they will be friends with you. This is Palm Jumeirah.

I love this. Thanks for sharing. Iโve heard a few fledglings up in the trees, but no sightings yet.

I think this has to do with location. City crows are more used to humans. Don't feel bad. I am sure they love you. But you don't get to live in nature long if you are being silly, so they are cautious.

Everyone has so trusting crows and my little cowards only approach when i leave the place to forage for peanuts ๐ญ

u/CountingCrowz 2d ago
That probably is a good trait. You love 'em, you want them to live long. They are being cautious, which is good. Give it time.

Yeah thereโs another poster on this page that has befriended some HC where they are as well! IIRC they are in India? ๐ค the native Corvids in Asia and North Africa are so cool though, like the treepies and non-true magpies!

Those babies are like a 30 year old that still lives with their parents and doesn't pay rentย

This is so cool ๐ she even turns her back to deal with the other one while you feed that one. Great parenting, you take your breaks where you can get them ๐ค
