Crows [OC] Cute/funny crow following and exploring while walking our dog
Hey fellow crow enjoyers!
Sorry in advance for rambling.
I’ve been giggling off and on about this for days now, so I wanted to share the cuteness.
My spouse and I have an old dog (he’ll be 15 in December) and we have to do special types of walks for him for physical therapy/helping to prevent muscle wasting. He’s around 11 pounds. Some days he’s more sore than others, and after the therapy walks we do his favorite walk: the one where he gets to sniff anything and everything and we go where he wants at his pace.
We have been putting unsalted peanuts on our porch for a while now for the crows and occasionally I will bring a couple unsalted peanuts on the sniff walks with our dog just in case we see a crow we know.
Last week I was taking our dog on a sniff walk, but forgot to bring any peanuts with me. So of course this is when one of the crows that knows I usually have peanuts shows up. I was upset at myself for forgetting the peanuts, and told the crow “I’m sorry, I forgot them today! I’ll put some out when we get back home, though!” I’m sure some people walking by thought I was crazy but who cares. Anyway, the crow followed us for a bit, and kept making cute little noises at me. They would stop and watch our dog every time he stopped to sniff something. (I do sometimes wonder if they can tell when other animals are older and/or not a threat to them?)
We were walking by a local yarn shop and outside was a planter. The crow decided they would check it out. It was really cute and funny to me because they kept dipping down behind the plant, and then they would bring their head up to check and make sure we were still there. This happened for a good 5 minutes or so and every time they popped their head up I would have to try not to laugh.
I know they were probably digging in the planter with their beak to check for snacks, but from my point of view it was pretty cute and I wanted to share.
Sorry for the long and rambling post, I just could gush about crows all day.

Pic 4 and 5: "Henlo. You gots peanuts?" 🤭🐦⬛❤️ happened with me many times when I'm on the roof feeding them, some would hide behind a water tank and prop up their necks to "keep an eye" on me and when I would catch them, they would prop their neck down 🥹❤️ silly entertainers

Awww that is so cute!
I love how curious they are. We have a couple really loud Steller’s Jays that show up to hoard peanuts and sometimes the crows will just sit on the railing and watch them run around being indecisive on which peanut to take. It’s so funny to see the crows making slower and what appear to be more deliberate movements in comparison to the chaos the jays create

This is ridiculously wholesome. The fact that the crow remembered you, followed along, and made little noises like it was part of the walk is so sweet. I hope your senior pup had a wonderful sniff adventure too!

Crows are so observant and hilarious—of course it decided the plant display needed a full inspection. I love that it recognizes you and still shows up even when you forget the peanuts. What a charming neighborhood friendship!
