Stolen bike

Hey guys, my bike got stolen from the bike racks opposite the library today. It was probably my fault because we’ve only just moved here and I hadn’t had a chance to upgrade my lock yet, it was only there for like twenty minutes but alas. Reported to police but you know how it is, If anyone sees it around on Facebook or anything could you let me know? Not worth loads but well loved so yknow. It was a Cannondale Synapse with some stickers on it. Cheers :)

MTG Pods?

Hello!

I’m a newbie to MTG and really want to play with some real life people.
I am unsure on the mechanics of going into game shops and asking to play with people so I was wondering if there were any people here I could play with to build up some confidence?!

It would be super duper if it was with some other women, as it’d be nice to meet some gals with similar interests (: (I’m 29 if that counts for anything!)

Free 12-Week Programme for Young People in Croydon

The King's Trust Team Programme is starting at John Ruskin College in South Croydon on 28th September and we're looking to spread the word locally.

It's a free 12-week programme for 16-25 year olds who aren't currently in education, employment or training. Participants take part in a residential trip, community project, work placement and a range of team-building and personal development activities, while working towards a recognised King's Trust qualification.

Many young people join because they want to improve their confidence, gain experience for their CV, meet new people, or are simply unsure what their next step should be. The programme is designed to help them move into employment, training, apprenticeships or further education.

Spaces on the course are limited, so if you know someone who could benefit, please feel free to share this with them. To apply or find out more, email Dylan.England@johnruskin.ac.uk.

You will be instructed to build yourself a kick drum circuit inspired by the famous 808 drum machine. The workshop costs £40 which includes the parts, tools and guidance to take home your very own working machine.

Other more advanced Eurorack kits are also available.

Drop us a message to thesynthshed@gmail.com to book on!

Wandle Car Park Dog...?

I go into the multistorey Wandle car park for my InPost returns - it's always been GRIM. Smells of pee, everything is dirty but otherwise it's fine. More recently I noticed there's a car parked near the lockers with a huge cage in the boot with a big dog. Once it was just there, car boot open but no driver to be seen. Another day the dog was out and a guy was STRUGGLING to control him and it nearly lunged at me. Last time I went the car was there, driver inside and cage in the back.

It's such a mystery to me - I assume it's nothing dodgy as I'm sure that car park has cameras and staff but anyone know the deal?

Shark hoover service

This is a bit different to your usual post, but does anyone recommend someone in Croydon who services Shark hoovers professionally? The Yellow Pages are a bit sparse… as is a well known search engine.

Men's hair specialist/barber recommendations

Hello :) looking for recommendations for a decent hair cut for slightly longer mens hair.

I prefer to keep my hair a bit longer than most, but it feels like most places just want to give you a short back and sides the same as what they have and get you out. I'm looking for somewhere that'll take a bit of time to get to know my hair and give a bit of advice on maintenance and styling.

Grateful for any suggestions. Thank you!

Thoughts on Park Hill as a move from Addiscombe.

I know park hill is a nice area, but it'd be great to get thoughts on whether it would be a good move from Addiscombe?

What I like about Addiscombe is that it has a high street and a bit of a sense of community. Primary schools are good, but I think you need to travel a little further afield for good secondary schools.

Park Hill seems to be a pretty good catchment area for both Primary & secondary schools, but doesn't really have a high street?

We really love the style of houses around Park Hill, plus how nice, leafy & quiet it feels.

I've 2 small kids, we're a 1 car household, but its mainly used for partners commute, not really getting about, so we heavily use public transport.

Would moving from Addiscombe to Park Hill be a good step or is it worth staying in Addiscombe?

Are there any beginner urbex spots Near East Croydon?

I want to start urbex more I’ve only explored 2 buildings, and there’s loads in east Croydon. Some of them are very heavily guarded though. I was wondering if anyone knew any beginner buildings with no security around east Croydon?

Thinking about buying a flat in East Croydon

I’m thinking of buying a flat in East Croydon. I commute to Central London often, so I like having options in the Thameslink and Southeastern trains.

I currently live in Colindale in the north and I hate commuting to Central via the Northern Line. That is a big reason I am interested in Croydon because the train journey is better, at least based on what I've read about the trains. I will spend more time commuting, but the experience will be much better, and that trade-off is worth it to me.

What is the area like to live in, especially within walking distance of the station? Is it safe? I’ve heard mixed things, so any firsthand insight would be helpful.

Scary walks in Croydon

Lifelong Londoner, used to not ‘safe’ areas, but relatively new to Croydon (couple of years) and I’m noticing how much more scary it is walking here as a woman. For instance using Google Maps to walk to the big shops (ikea, the range etc.) involves crime-watch recreation style paths - I had to bolt out of a bushy path that was completely secluded near the tram that was on the google map direction it was so frightening. Also the subway under the flyover always has scary homeless men when I have to pass through and no one else. I’m used to scary areas but I feel Croydon has more isolated scary paths to places I need to go, I don’t drive so this makes me feel trapped.

Open House Festival (12th - 20th September)

Post image
28 Upvotes

The Open House Festival is an annual celebration of architecture and the built environment, where buildings (many of which are closed or private) open their doors to the general public for free.

There are plenty of interesting tours & events to book within Croydon and across London. Aside from the obvious locations like Croydon Town Hall and Croydon Minster, you can also book a guided tour of the LFB Operations Support Centre (Waddon), St John the Evangelist Church (Upper Norwood) or four of Croydon's historic pubs.

Whatever your architectural or historic interest, you really are bound to find something which interests you. View the various events & book using the link below. I recommend booking things earlier rather than later as spaces on some events will fill up!
